WELCOME

The concept of Ladies Day dates from an era when gentlemen racegoers would annually break tradition for one day and take their wives to the races. The world has changed a lot since then, but the theme still survives as a fun day out with high fashions on display, making it a colourful scene for everyone in attendance.

At Royal Windsor we celebrate the occasion with our popular “Style Awards”. There will be regular announcements advising you how to enter, and with details of the dazzling prizes that you can win at the final judging stage, so look out for the best places to be noticed and how to impress the sartorial experts who will be making the decision.

As we reach the end of June, it’s the perfect moment for us to launch our Half Year Membership, giving you entry to the racecourse’s Club facilities for the next six months, all the way to the return of jump racing to Windsor in December In addition, you will be entitled to entry to the other 15 Arena Racing racecourses including Bath, Brighton, Fontwell and Lingfield.

Bonus features include £50 in spending money on food and drink and four guest passes to use on days of your choice. We are sure you will also enjoy wearing your prized membership badge! Remarkably, all this is available for just £195 per person and you can secure your place by applying through our website, www.windsorracecourse.co.uk

The centrepiece of today’s card is a valuable Class 2 handicap over a full circuit of the figure of eight, supported by a £20,000 novice event which far exceeds the quality and prize money level for most races of this type. The runners are largely unexposed but with significant potential, and many top stables are represented, so there are likely to be several useful performers in the line-up

When the racing is over, the afternoon takes a musical twist on the paddock lawn with a live concert from 90s Explosion. Then, on Monday evening, we return with ABBA Party Racenight, with booking still available from our website, making this two-day extravaganza one of the highlights of the season for music lovers and horse racing fans alike.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RACE SUMMARY

A new sponsor and a new location for this historic race. Upstart Crow was a course and distance winner on his reappearance in a conditions event, though beaten by Abiyah Athbah last time. His stable continues to be in red hot form and his regular amateur pilot (who couldn’t claim here) has been replaced by a professional. Abiyah Athbah finished ahead of him that day and having inherited plenty of speed from her dam, is sure to be thereabouts again, particularly if the ground stays quick. In the past the race has favoured four and five year olds trained in France and the ex French FAREEDHAT EL IZZ made her first UK start a winning one. She looks just the type to progress further and her sire’s half brother won this race at Newbury in 2012.
