Windsor Racecard - Monday 22nd July

Page 1

WELCOME

As we welcome you to Royal Windsor tonight and continue our journey through the encyclopedia of popular music, Soul & Motown is one of the most enduring themes of all and we are sure to be treated to a memorable concert on the paddock lawn immediately after the prizegiving ceremony for the final race

On the track, we continue with the popular Fitzdares Sprint Series, this time over six furlongs. Connections of Expert Agent, the surprise 40-1 winner of last week’s qualifier, are hoping to return for the £75,000 final on 12 August, where he may be joined by some of those running tonight.

With Gents Evening (Saturday 3 August), Racing League (Thursday 15 August) and Summer Closing Party (Saturday 24 August) all taking place, the next month features three days outside our usual Monday evening timeslot, so please make sure you check the forthcoming dates in our fixtures calendar.

However, there will still be plenty of opportunities to spend your Mondays with us, starting with An Evening with Queen a week today (29 July) and Vegas Night (12 August). All dates and related booking information may be accessed, along with special raceday deals, on www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk

If you haven’t yet tried spending your trip to the racecourse at a smart dining table in the panoramic 1866 Restaurant, or arriving and returning by riverboat from the town centre, now would be the perfect time to explore either of those two unique delights of visiting Royal Windsor.

You can secure your place for either via the website address above We hope you enjoy it so much you will decide to do it again before the end of the season!

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

D - Distance winner

CD - Course & Distance winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A fair bit of potential on show for this nursery but Jack Channon’s SPIRITED DANCER looks to have got in lightly for his handicap bow so edges the vote with underfoot conditions much more suitable than when fifth in a Sandown Listed event last time out Fellow nursery debutantes John’s Dragon and Ruff Justice also have better days ahead of them and can chase home the selection in that order Ran Amok completes the shortlist in an intriguing contest

LONGEST TRAVELLERS: SEA REGAL trained by W Haggas, NAAEY trained by J & T Gosden, WARREN HILL trained by R Varian & STAR JASMINE trained by G Boughey - all Newmarket, 63 miles.

Though disappointing on the face of it at Doncaster, SEA REGAL looked promising prior to that and she could be about to take a step forward now switched to handicap company. Naaey is entitled to come on for her recent comeback spin at Pontefract and she remains of interest, too. Seek And Destroy is another low-mileage filly with her best days surely still ahead of her, while the other three can all be given a chance.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): R Hannon (33 wins from 256 runners, 13%) runs ALWAYS FEARLESS TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): R Hannon (6 wins from 58 runners, 10%) runs ALWAYS FEARLESS LONGEST TRAVELLER: CAREY STREET trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 105 miles.

A chance is taken on MANILA MIST, who had been knocking on the door prior to a low-key effort at Lingfield where she presumably wasn’t 100%. If able to p ut that run behind her she will be a big player off this winnable mark. Adace and Salaamaat rate the main dangers in that order of preference, while the top-weight Always Fearless is also worth a second look
