Royal Windsor Racecard - Saturday 3rd August

Page 1

WELCOME

Although Royal Windsor is known to all as the “Home of Monday Night Racing”, we do have several meetings throughout the season that are held in alternative timeslots, and Gents Day is one of them. However, all your favourite things are here, the only difference being that it’s Saturday!

Top DJ Chris Moyles joins us tonight to provide the music on the lawn after racing. Wherever you choose to spend the first part of the evening, head to the paddock area as the last horse departs for home, and you will find all the bars still open, along with the popular food outlets and even the ice-cream van.

Our feature event tonight is the Get Raceday Ready Handicap, a five-furlong speed test that will take around one minute to run. If you enjoy races like this one, make sure you return on Monday week (12 August) when we stage the £75,000 final in the Fitzdares Sprint Series - the grand culmination of the qualifiers run since the start of June.

Our post-racing entertainment theme will be Vegas Night, with all your favourite Elvis songs likely to feature prominently during the concert. And there’s another Monday evening to follow a week later on 19 August , which we are calling Final Fiesta, an indication that the long summer days are entering their final weeks.

Please visit our website, www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk, for further information and an easy booking process, We can recommend a table in the panoramic 1866 Restaurant or stylish arrival at the racecourse by riverboat from the town centre, but there are a multitude of options for you to choose from.

We take a rare break on Monday but we will be back a week later to resume our summer programme, including Racing League on Thursday 15 August. If you’ve never witnessed the high jinks and banter of racing’s very own team competition, now would be a very good time to try it for the first time!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

WEIGHTWATCHER: REDREDROBIN won off a handicap mark of 73, her rating is now down 5lb to 68. LONGEST TRAVELLER: REDREDROBIN trained by M Saunders, Wells, 107 miles.

CRIMSON ANGEL is proving expensive to follow this season but at least she didn’t fluff the start last time and is worth another chance back down in class. Moe’s Legacy is another who’s not straightforward but is capable off her current mark, while Cotai Vision is another to consider if ready to go for her new yard.
