WELCOME

Welcome to Royal Windsor Racecourse for our eagerly awaited Summer Closing Party fixture with top class action both on and off the racecourse throughout the evening.

On the track we have six races to enjoy, including two of our most prestigious contests of the entire year in the form of the Group 3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes over one mile and quarter at 6.45pm, with the listed Weatherbys Digital Solutions August Stakes due off half an hour earlier over one mile and three and a half furlongs.

These two races regularly attract the best horses, jockeys and trainers from around the country and Royal Windsor course records have been broken in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes in years gone by Sir Michael Stoute has trained the winners of the last three renewals of the contest with the classy Solid Stone, Regal Reality and Passenger, while no jockey has won the listed Weatherbys Digital Solutions August Stakes more times than Jamie Spencer, who has three wins on Crocodile Dundee (2008), Second Step (2017) and Raakib Alhawa (2019) to his name

After racing we have the irrepressible Sara Cox, Radio 2’s star presenter, providing racegoers with an opportunity to dance the night away on the Lawn with a very personal DJ set containing music that reflects her 20 years in music and showbiz; From her 80s radio show to the present day bringing into the mix brit pop, big beat, pop, R&B, hip hop and dance; she’ll play it all!

So once again, we are set fair for yet another magical evening on the banks of RiverThames combining quality racing and entertainment.

As ever, full details of all upcoming events can be found at: www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk.

MEET THE TEAM

DEIRA MILE TAKING IN WINDSOR ON THE WAY TO THE ST LEGER GOAL

The team behind live Betfred St Leger contender Deira Mile, who was also fourth in the Derby, are banking on the patient approach paying dividends when the exciting colt returns to action at Windsor in the Weatherbys Digital Solutions AugustStakesonSaturday.

Carrying Listed status, the £55,000 August Stakes takes place alongside the Group 3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes, which headlines Windsor’s six-race card, but plenty of focus is set to be on the Owen Burrows-trainedDeiraMile,whohas not raced since that fine fourth to City Of Troy in the Derby at Epsom inJune.

Prior to that, he also finished fourth inlastyear’sGroup1FuturityTrophy andwasimpressivewhenwinninga WindsornoviceinApril.

Ageneral10-1fortheStLeger,which takes place at Doncaster on September14, DeiraMile runsinthe colours of Ahmad Al Shaikh’s Green TeamRacing.

“He’s in good form and ready to go.”

“IwantWindsortogetadropofrain, but it looks like they will,” Burrows said.“He’singoodformandisready to go. I wouldn’t want to risk him a few weeks before the Leger on fast ground, but I’ve been pleased with him in the last six weeks and, in an

ideal world, I’d like to get a run into himbeforeDoncaster.

“The Weatherbys Digital Solutions August Stakes is the perfect slot to do that. At the beginning of the week, it looked like there was plenty of rain and then it looked like we wouldnotgetmuch,butnow-ifthe forecastiscorrect-itseemsthere’s anicebandofraincomingthrough on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning. We’d be unlucky not to get something and I only want it to be good ground, it doesn’tneedtobesoft.”

DeiraMile, asonofCamelot, began his career with Charlie Johnston before joining Burrows, who added: “We thought about running him in the Irish Derby, but had to see how he came out of Epsom. As can be the case with the Derby, it took a littlebitoutofhim.

“There would have been enough juice in the ground to run in Ireland, butwedidn’twanttoforceanything and fair play to the owner, who has beenverypatient.

“We felt all along the Leger was his race, so we’ve let him comeback to himself and, touch wood, the signs at home are that he is right where wewanthimtobe.”

The three-year-old’s Derby form was boosted in York’s International Stakes on Wednesday when CityOfTroyproducedacommanding display to triumph, while Los Angeles, one place in front of

Deira Mile when third at Epsom, obligedintheGreatVoltigeurStakes onthecard.

“That Derby form is strong,” the Lambourn-based Burrows said. “It’s been franked and we were only a length and a half behind LosAngelesintheDerby.Ifeel, ifthe groundhadcomerightforusatYork and we had run in the Voltigeur, we’d have been in the mix there. What happened at York on Wednesday gives me confidence forourhorse.”

Burrows,whostartedtrainingin2016 after a stint assisting Sir Michael Stoute, sawsubsequentKingGeorge VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes hero Hukum finish fifth in the 2020 StLeger.

Inthe110-ratedDeiraMile,heseesa meaningful challenger for the world’soldestClassic.

“Hemaybedoesn’thavetheclassof Hukum at the moment, but he’s probably bigger and scopier,” the formerjumpjockeycontinued.

“Thepatientapproachwon’tdohim anyharmashe’sabig, solidhorse.I was surprised how big LosAngeles is when I saw him at York on Wednesday and, like Deira Mile, he is by Camelot. Therefore, we’re hoping our patience will pay off this season, but also with a view to next yearaswell.

“If all goes well at Windsor on Saturday, hopefully we can go onto

the Leger and, for the size of team we are, to be competing in these racesisgreat. It’swhereweallwant to be and we’ve always felt he’s a StLegerhorseinthemaking.Onour Derby run, where we came from a bitfurtherbackthanideal,he’dhave toentertheshake-upatDoncaster.”

Jim Crowley has ridden the Classic prospectinhislasttwostarts, butis on duty at York on Saturday, so Cieren Fallon will be aboard at Windsor and Burrows said: “Cieren hasn’thadchancetositonhim, but Saturday was tricky with meetings at York and Goodwood, on top of whether we’d even be running as well.

“I spoke to William Haggas on Thursday morning who was kind enough to let me know Mujtaba would not be running in this race and that Cieren would be available. The horse takes some knowing, but I’mnotsayinghe’squirkyandCieren has ridden winners for me and should suit the horse, so I’ve every confidenceinhim.”

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

My Prospero Favourite to Clinch Group 3 Success in The Winter Hill

It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoringtworacesacrossthecard at Windsor this evening and Derby fourth Deira Mile is set for his first appearancesinceEpsomintheListed Weatherbys Digital Solutions August Stakes. A wide-margin winner of a novice here back in April, the Derby form has worked out extremely well and Owen Burrows’ three-year-old no doubt brings the best form into the contest, whilst also escaping any penalties.

Aimeric landed a Lingfield handicap on return from a mark of 102 before consecutive runner-up finishes in Listed company. He disappointed in the Group 3 Glorious Stakes last time, buttheformhasbeenboosted, and he has since moved to the Karl Burke yard. David Simcock landed this prize in both 2018 and 2019 and the lightly raced Cash makes his belated return here. The five-year-oldiswinlesssinceadebut victoryatNewmarketbackin2021but brings smart form behind the likes of WestoverandChindittothetable, for allhemayneedtherun.SeaOfRoses has posted two good performances when third the last twice, the first of whichinaGroup3,butwouldperhaps preferabitofcutintheground.

Sir Michael Stoute has won the Group 3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes seven times this century, including all of the

last three, and again relies on 2022 winner Regal Reality to bring up the four-timer in the contest. The nineyear-old is a five-time winner at this level and has shown little signs of slowing down this term despite his age, last seen finishing third in the RoseOfLancasterStakesatHaydock. Jack Channon’s Certain Lad was a length ahead of his reopposing rival at Haydock and he too still seems to be full of life at the age of eight, scoring decisively in Listed company onhispenultimatestart.

“My Prospero has placed in Group 1 company and perhaps sets the standard here”

William Haggas’ My Prospero has placed in Group 1 company on multiple occasions and perhaps sets the standard here, leading the way on official ratings. He made an encouraging comeback when third at Goodwood last time and should come on for the run here. Persica is a progressive three-year-old, winning two competitive handicaps this season, and has more scope to improve than most in this field. He benefits from the weight-for-age allowance here and three-year-olds have taken the prize twice in the last nineyears, includinglastyear.

MY PROSPERO was beaten only 1/2 length when third at Goodwood on his reappearance conceding weight all round, so he can build on that effort to resume winning ways as he goes back up in trip The main danger could be Persica, who has been going the right way in handicaps and is well worth his place upped in grade, ahead of Sean.
