Royal Windsor Racecard - Monday 16th September

Page 1

WELCOME

As another memorable summer season at Royal Windsor draws to its conclusion, we now look ahead to one of the most exciting developments at the racecourse in its history - the return of jumps racing here on Sunday 15 December for the first time in two decades

This has necessitated the creation of a brand-new track for both the hurdlers and steeplechasers. Unlike the traditional figure-of-eight shape used for Flat racing and the jumps in the past, it will be a left-handed circuit with a long back straight and unique home run that will follow the curves of the existing layout.

The opening meeting will be followed on 19 January by a key part of the three-day Berkshire Million Weekend, run in conjunction with our neighbour, Ascot Racecourse Amidst some top-class racing from start to finish, this Sunday card will feature the £165,000 Fitzdares Fleur de Lys Chase, which is bound be a midwinter target for some of the best steeplechasers in the country.

Tickets for the re-launch are available on windsor-racecourse.co.uk, with an option for attending all three days of the Weekend at both racecourses As always, further information is available online, where you will find significant discounts for early bookings

While we look forward to this historic event, there are still three days to enjoy during the remainder of the Flat season, with the titles of leading trainer and jockey still be decided. Our autumn fixtures are always particularly competitive, so the action on the track today will be as exciting as ever

We hope you will find plenty of winners during this afternoon’s fixture, and the one a fortnight today on 30 September. Then we will have one more date on the Flat - 14 October - before the return of the jumps in December, with tickets for all dates available on our website.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

MARCHETTI is taken to deservedly resume winning ways on the back of solid efforts in defeat at Kempton and Chepstow the last twice. She certainly won’t have things all her own way, though, with last-time-out winner Ajrad and Adace, who has been knocking firmly on the door in recent months, both accorded plenty of respect. BellaVeneta and Monks Mead and Valadero all have claims, too, while Mayz is a plausible each-way candidate

Notre Maison was successful here on her penultimate start and, having put in another good shift when third at Chepstow next time, she is feared most Apple A Dey was a close third in a Kempton maiden on debut for this yard and is also shortlisted, along with Kento
