Veterinary Care
Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

TOMMY TAYLOR has been on a roll at Newcastle and remains well treated on his best form despite falling short in his bid for a 5-timer there last week. RACE SUMMARY
ROBERT WALPOLE is of strong interest now pitched into a handicap off what looks a fair opening mark on debut for Roger Varian. Assuming that Coase doesn’t take his chance (due to run at Newcastle on Thursday), the lightly-raced 5-y-o could be the answer. Bronze River put in a decent shift at Newcastle recently and he’s likely to be on the premises, while Drish Hero is also worth a second look.

On recent evidence VOLTAIC is much the most likely winner of this contest. He opened his all-weather account over this C&D a couple of weeks ago prior to finding just one too good dropped back to 6f at Southwell a day later. RACE SIX

A few in with chances in this feature contest but SUBJECTIVE VALUE is going through a good spell at present so Charlie & Mark Johnston’s charge gets the vote to double his career tally and bring up C&D victory number 2. City Runner opened his account on all-weather/handicap debut at Southwell last month so he can provide the main threat, with Neat And Dandy next on the list.
