LONGEST TRAVELLER: PATONTHEBACK trained by D O’Meara, Upper Helmsley, 155 miles. RACE SUMMARY

PATONTHEBACK quickly dispelled a lesser effort on turf when finishing a solid second over this trip at Lingfield 31 days ago and, from the same mark, looks to hold sound claims given his all-weather profile is largely a solid one. Northbound’s losing run is off-putting but he undoubtedly caught the eye at Thirsk recently and demands a second look. Keep Right On and Dandys Derriere complete the shortlist.

An opening handicap mark in the high 80s could underestimate YONAFIS who is taken to stretch his unbeaten record to 3 on his return to action. Aswan, a winner at Glorious Goodwood last summer, could be the one to give William Haggas’ charge most to do.

BY YOUR SIDE gets the nod, on the proviso that his stablemate Rose’s Girl, who is due to run at Redcar on Monday, doesn’t go to post. He has yet to trouble the judge, but has shown enough in his half-a-dozen appearances to suggest that a race of this nature would be within reach. Mcqueen and Twilight Tone should both be on the premises, while it will be interesting to see if support arrives for Rodolfo, who may well leave his 2-y-o exploits well behind now tried in a handicap. 1-2-3: 1.BY YOUR SIDE 2.MCQUEEN (IRE) 3.TWILIGHT TONE KEY colours

VETERINARY CARE Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst. 15
