Veterinary Care
Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy Please do not assume the worst

KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims
HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

Raceday preview from Weatherbys
The Weatherbys Stallion Book Nursery Handicap looks to be an intriguing contest, with the juveniles taking on the extended trip of 1m1½f here.
Top-weight MaiDubaihastheleast experience in the field with just the three career starts, but showed real determination to come out on top last time at Southwell. That was over 7f, and Richard Hughes’ Frankel colt left the impression that this longer trip will bring about even further improvement.
Mai Dubai looks to be a serious contender.
The other last time out winner in the field is Go Your Own Way, who got off the mark at the ninth time of asking in a Bath maiden over a mile. That was no doubt a careerbest,butheis2lbsoutofthe handicap in a tougher race here.
The likely pace angle in the contest is James Tate’s SaharaKitten, who couldbeallowedtodictatematters out in front under Luke Morris. TheKitten’sJoycoltmadevirtuallyall whenwinningatEpsombackinJuly, and was last seen finishing second to a progressive Richard Hannon juvenile at Kempton over a mile.
The reopposing Bits And Bobs has over eight lengths to make up on that rival based on their Kempton meeting, and has just a 3lb weight swing to aid his task. Jamie Osborne’s colt finished a solid fifth in a competitive Racing League contest when last seen and takes a big hike up in trip here.
Marco Botti’s Marefuori has now finished behind Sahara Kitten twice and has yet to record a victory in four starts. The son of Australia did go close at this track over 1m½f on his penultimate start though, and can give a good account of himself back up in trip.
Charlie Johnston’s Paladin won a strong novice event at Haydock back in July with the fourth and fifth both winning on their next start. However, the Justify colt has struggledinhandicapcompanythe last twice and has been unable to beat another rival home. He takes a significant jump up in trip here in thehopethathecanreturntoform.
Ivan Furtado’s Golden Bungle has alsostruggledthelasttwice, butthe form of his Leicester maiden win in Junehasworkedoutextremelywell.
