Veterinary Care
Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this, your bet will not be accepted

BRAVE DISPLAY ran well despite being left with a lot to do when third over further here 16 days ago, and with the drop in trip holding no fears, he could just be worth chancing to come out on top. Charlie Fellowes took this event 12 months ago and is fancied to repeat the trick with SMOKY MOUNTAIN who showed a fair bit of potential when twice runner-up in the spring and can make light of his absence. It may have taken ULTRAMARINE twenty-one attempts to get off the mark, but there doesn’t seem anything wrong with his attitude, so David Evans’ 4-y-o gets the nod to double his tally at the expense of Caesars Pearl, who shaped well from an unfavourable draw over C&D 11 days ago and has slipped to a career-low mark. This can go the way of GOD OF THUNDER, who finally opened his account in good style returning from 6 months off over C&D recently and Richard Hannon’s 4-y-o could well kick on now up and running. Waterloo Sunset was another last-time-out winner and, still fairly lightly raced for his age, he may emerge as the main danger, with My Harrison George and Sea of Charm also considered.

An ultra-competitive finale in which the vote goes to GOLDSMITH, who has been knocking on the door of late and, with first-time cheekpieces added to his usual hood, he can snap a losing streak stretching back to earlier in the year. Lunarscape looks an interesting recruit for Mark Loughnane, so she’s put forward as a big danger having hit the crossbar on her last couple of starts, with Prince Ali and Elshaameq also expected to be involved.
