KINGS CORONATION BIG BANK HOLIDAY FAMILY RACEDAY MON 08 MAY Official Raceday Programme & Form Guide | RRP £3.50

Welcome back to Worcester Racecourse!

Kicking off our season with the “Big Bank Holiday Family Raceday”, in celebration of the Kings Coronation, we are all very excited to open our gates once again and get the Season off to a cracking start.

This Monday afternoon’s race card brings us a some great racing including a £12,000 handicap chase; it should prove to be a fun-filled and exciting day. We would like to wish everybody a very enjoyable afternoon of racing with us at Worcester Racecourse to finish the Bank Holiday off in style.

We have plenty going on today; fun for all the family. Head over to centre course to have your face painted, a go on the inflatables and bumper cars. Those wishing to enter our Best Crown Competition, look out for our team who will invite you to join us after the 3rd race in the parade ring lawn for a chance to win some great prizes.

Details of our sponsors can be found within this racecard and listen out today for snapshots of what they do. We are hugely grateful that you all support Worcester Racecourse and would like to take this opportunity to say a special thanks to you all.

If you are interested in sponsoring a race and be a real part of the action, please do get in touch with a member of our team on course.

Today is the start to a greatly anticipated Summer of Jumps racing with plenty to look forward too. Our newly themed Rum & Reggae night on May 26th will be sure to bring the vibes of the Caribbean to Worcester and of course our Ladies Day on 3rd June will be a fantastic day out! We have a new Day at the Races package on all our fixtures which offers value. More details can be found within this racecard.

Behind the scenes our team have all been working hard to get the course back up and running. As you all can see today, there is lots still to do until the new weighing room works are complete so we thank you for your patience and hope it is certainly a case of short-term pain for a long-term gain! The finished item will be worth the wait!

We, as a team here at Worcester wish you the best raceday experience today and most of all, we thank you for supporting us. We do hope you will join us again at the home of Summer Jumping throughout our 2023 Season and please, visit our website and social for more details of what is happening here on course!

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

WELCOME BACK to Worcester Racecourse for the start of our 2023 racing season

As you may have noticed, there are a few changes around the racecourse. At the end of last season, we started work on the new Weighing Room facility which we hoped would be ready for today.

Sadly, the weather has seriously impacted the work that has been taking place across our off season. Whilst significant flooding of the racecourse site is not uncommon during the winter months, the River Severn has run at particularly high levels on a number of occasions this year, encroaching on to the footprint of the development as per the image below.

Whilst the work now continues apace, we will today be using the temporary Weighing Room facilities that we used throughout last season, and our thanks go to the Jockeys, Valets and Officials with whom we have cooperated on this project.

We appreciate the slight difference that you’ll see in the Racecourse over upcoming fixtures, but very much look forward to opening the new Weighing Room as soon as we can later this summer.

As ever, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
