SAT 3 JUNE

Welcome to Worcester’s highlight of the Season! Glamour, atmosphere, excitement and plenty of celebration has arrived to Worcester!

A very warm welcome to our feature sponsor of today, FBC Mamby Bowler and Kim Bayliss Wealth Management who is sponsoring our last race of the day. To both these local companies, we thank you enormously for the support you provide us and wish you both a great day. More details of what FBC Mamby Bowler and Kim Bayliss Wealth Management can offer can be found within the race card.

A very warm welcome to you all, to our 2023 Ladies Day and a very special welcome to St Richards Hospice and guests. We wish you all a very enjoyable day with us; full of fun and celebration. In aid of a fantastic charity, they will be carrying out a bucket collection so if you can spare any change, please do drop some in.

As always, we will be running the Style Awards Best Dressed Competition. For a chance to be in the running for the £500 prize, look out for our spotters who will invite you to the flower wall for a picture and a chance to enter the competition. The competition will close just before the 2nd race.

After racing head over to the Centre Course for some great live music from a local band, Junction7 to finish the day off dancing to some well known cover songs. Check out their website for more details of where you can catch this great band playing this Summer https://junction7band.co.uk

On the track we have 7 exciting races, of which we wish all our runners, riders, owners and trainers the very best of luck today. Albeit just 43 declared runners, each race will certainly provide some great excitement. Our grounds team have been working flat out to get the track in a great position for this highlight of our calendar year; with some very long days watering to maintain the ground; it does not go unappreciated and we thank all the support from across the group also. Arena Racing Company is a great family network and we welcome all team members who are here today, a very enjoyable day with us.

Today we have opened our new Annual Members Bar and although, it is not quite the finished item, we hope all our members will enjoy using their exclusive bar going forward.

We, as a team here at Worcester wish you the best raceday experience today and most of all, we thank you for supporting us. We do hope you will join us again at the home of Summer Jumping throughout our 2023 Season and please, visit our website and social for more details of what is happening here on course!

Have a great day with us and good luck!

We hope to see you again for our next raceday on Thursday 15th June to celebrate all things Irish; and if your name is Patrick or Patricia, you will gain FREE entry!

WORCESTER RACECOURSE is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Brighton, Chepstow, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor, Sedgefield, Southwell, Uttoxeter and Wolverhampton racecourses.

TIMEFORM VIEW Still capable of smart form over fences last season and made most of 2 good opportunities back over hurdles in May. This a lot harder but still the one to beat.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

WELCOME BACK to Worcester Racecourse for the start of our 2023 racing season

As you may have noticed, there are a few changes around the racecourse. At the end of last season, we started work on the new Weighing Room facility which we hoped would be ready for today.

Sadly, the weather has seriously impacted the work that has been taking place across our off season. Whilst significant flooding of the racecourse site is not uncommon during the winter months, the River Severn has run at particularly high levels on a number of occasions this year, encroaching on to the footprint of the development as per the image below.

Whilst the work now continues apace, we will today be using the temporary Weighing Room facilities that we used throughout last season, and our thanks go to the Jockeys, Valets and Officials with whom we have cooperated on this project.

We appreciate the slight difference that you’ll see in the Racecourse over upcoming fixtures, but very much look forward to opening the new Weighing Room as soon as we can later this summer.

As ever, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
