SUMMER AFTERNOON RACING WED 21 JUN Official Raceday Programme & Form Guide | £3.50
Welcome to Worcester Racecourse for a great afternoon of midweek Summer Jump racing.
Today we have 7 thrilling races with a total of 70 horses declared, kick starting with our 2m4f Handicap Chase and later in the card another ARC Summer Novice’s Brush Hurdle Qualifier Good luck to all runners and riders, of which we wish a very safe and successful day.
Following on from this, we as a team would like to take this opportunity to wish Aidan Coleman a very speedy recovery from his fall here last week and wish him all the best in the coming months.
A very warm welcome back to Savills this afternoon, who are not only a sponsor today, but also holding their annual event with us in the Parade Ring Marquee. We hope you all have a very enjoyable day with us and thank you all for the continued support you provide this Racecourse.
Additionally to Savills, our sponsors for today are Fitzdares, Richard Newland Racing, PJ Nicholls, FBC Mamaby Bowler and Eventmasters. All of which have been great support to this racecourse and we certainly appreciate all you do for us.
A special mention to our Annual Members also today, as now the exclusive bar is up and running, we do hope you are all enjoying the facilities.
Off the track, one of our team members, Sean White, is participating in a great challenge next month, in aid of a fantastic charity, Racing Welfare. It is one close to us all who work in the racing industry so if you can spare any change, please do look out for the bucket collection throughout the evening. For more details, please visit https://racingwelfare.co.uk/challenges-archive/yorkshire-three-peaks-challenge/
Now that our Season is fully up and running, we are looking ahead to our next upcoming fixtures. Follow us on our social media platforms for an update on what is going on, but we really cannot wait for Gentleman’s Evening later in July, as well as Family Fun Day in September Both events are not to be missed, but there will certainly more exiting race days ahead. Watch this space!
Thank you all for supporting Worcester Racecourse and have a great evening with us and good luck!
We hope to see you again for our next race day on Wednesday 28th June for a great afternoon of racing.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

WELCOME BACK to Worcester Racecourse
As you may have noticed, there are a few changes around the racecourse. At the end of last season, we started work on the new Weighing Room facility which we hoped would be ready for today.
Sadly, the weather has seriously impacted the work that has been taking place across our off season. Whilst significant flooding of the racecourse site is not uncommon during the winter months, the River Severn has run at particularly high levels on a number of occasions this year, encroaching on to the footprint of the development as per the image below.
Whilst the work now continues apace, we will today be using the temporary Weighing Room facilities that we used throughout last season, and our thanks go to the Jockeys, Valets and Officials with whom we have cooperated on this project.
We appreciate the slight difference that you’ll see in the Racecourse over upcoming fixtures, but very much look forward to opening the new Weighing Room as soon as we can later this summer.
As ever, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Michael Thomas, General Manager Worcester Racecourse

WEIGHTWATCHER: COURTLAND won off a handicap mark of 122, his rating is now down 7lb to 115.
LONGEST TRAVELLER: COURTLAND trained by P Bowen, Haverfordwest, 176 miles.
COURTLAND took advantage of his reduced mark over C&D last month and the manner of that success suggests he can defy a 6lb rise Friary Rock has made a good start to the season so is feared most.

Please do not always assume the worse, and at all times the horse’s welfare is our paramount concern.
