SUMMER AFTERNOON RACING WED 28 JUN Official Raceday Programme & Form Guide | £3.50

Welcome to Worcester Racecourse for a great afternoon of midweek Summer Jump racing.

Today we have 7 thrilling races with 58 horses declared, with the highlight of the card being the 16:28 Stepway Veterans Charity Handicap Hurdle with a prize pot of £19,000. It will certainly be an exciting race, with the 15:58 also one to note as it is another ARC Summer Novice’s Brush Hurdle Series Qualifier Good luck to all runners and riders, of which we wish a very safe and successful day.

A very warm welcome back to all our sponsors this afternoon; all of which have been supporting Worcester Racecourse for some time now and we are very grateful for this. To mention our sponsors today individually, we have FBC Manby Bowdler, PJ Nicholls, Richard Newland Racing, Radio Wyvern, Stepway Veterans Charity and The Rory Daly Memorial. More details of all of these, can be found within this racecard. We hope you all have a very enjoyable day with us and thank you all once again.

Sponsorship is not only one of the most cost-effective ways to increase brand awareness, but it can also provide a unique and memorable way to mark a special occasion, such as a Birthday or an anniversary. A day at the races combines tradition, excitement and first-rate brand exposure to offer excellent marketing opportunities.

Racing appeals to a vast range of demographics with a huge target audience from racegoers, to conference and event attendees throughout the year here at Worcester Racecourse.

We offer bother corporate and celebratory packages to tailor to suit your needs. To find out more information and know the extensive list of what sponsorship offers, please email info@ worcester-racecourse.co.uk.

Now that our Season is fully up and running, we are looking ahead to our next upcoming fixtures. Follow us on our social media platforms for an update on what is going on, but we really can’t wait for Gentleman’s Evening later in July, as well as Family Fun Day in September Both events are not to be missed, but there will certainly more exiting race days ahead. Watch this space!

Thank you all for supporting Worcester Racecourse and have a great afternoon with us and good luck!

We hope to see you again for our next race day which is Wednesday 5th July.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

HORSE WELFARE

It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected whilst a diagnosis of the injury is made by one of the three veterinary surgeons deployed around the course. The screens are designed to afford privacy during this diagnosis.

Please do not always assume the worse, and at all times the horse’s welfare is our paramount concern.

WELCOME BACK to Worcester Racecourse

As you may have noticed, there are a few changes around the racecourse. At the end of last season, we started work on the new Weighing Room facility which we hoped would be ready for today.

Sadly, the weather has seriously impacted the work that has been taking place across our off season. Whilst significant flooding of the racecourse site is not uncommon during the winter months, the River Severn has run at particularly high levels on a number of occasions this year, encroaching on to the footprint of the development as per the image below.

Whilst the work now continues apace, we will today be using the temporary Weighing Room facilities that we used throughout last season, and our thanks go to the Jockeys, Valets and Officials with whom we have cooperated on this project.

We appreciate the slight difference that you’ll see in the Racecourse over upcoming fixtures, but very much look forward to opening the new Weighing Room as soon as we can later this summer.

As ever, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
