Welcome to Worcester Racecourse for a great afternoon of midweek Summer Jump racing.

Today we have 6 exciting races with 60 horses declared, with the highlight of the card being the 16:23 The Lowes Garage Handicap Hurdle with a prize pot of £11,000. Good luck to all runners and riders, of which we wish a very safe and successful day.

A very warm welcome back to all our sponsors this afternoon; all of which have been supporting Worcester Racecourse for some time now and we are very grateful for this.

To mention our sponsors today individually, we have FBC Manby Bowdler, PJ Nicholls, Richard Newland Racing, Lowes Garages, and The Matthew Field Memorial. More details of all of these, can be found within this race card. We hope you all have a very enjoyable day with us and thank you all once again.

Our grounds team need a special mention this week as they have been working tirelessly to get our track up to today’s racing conditions. With various technical challenges they have come through on top of the normal day-to-day track maintenance, we are proud of the team work they carry out. Without their efforts, strength and charisma, we would not be here today. As you will find within this card, we are currently recruiting for an additional member to join our grounds team. If this is of interest, please email info@worcester-racecourse.co.uk

Off the track, Sean White, our Financial Controller is completing the Racing Welfare Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge this weekend. We would like to wish him the best of luck and if you can spare a bit of change, there is still time to donate at https://racingwelfare.enthuse.com/pf/sean-white

Additionally to this, you will spot MacMillan Cancer Support around the site today who are doing a bucket collections, so again, if you can spare any change please do for these great charities.

Thank you all for supporting Worcester Racecourse and have a great afternoon with us and good luck!

We hope to see you again for our next race day which is Monday 10th July.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

It’s hard to completely rule any of these out but POLISH is the most appealing following a fine effort in defeat back in this sphere over C&D last month. He remains 8lb below his last winning mark and gets the nod ahead of Go Chique, who scored on the back of a similar absence at Bangor in September. The hat-trick seeking Gentleman Valley will be a threat, too, if keeping it together and Irish Prophecy is of interest back hurdling off an attractive mark.
