Our last evening meeting of the season!

Welcome to Worcester Racecourse for our last evening meeting of the 2023 Season. We have 7 races on good ground, with 63 horses declared. We wish every runner and rider the very best of luck and hope all connections have a very enjoyable race night with us.

A very special welcome to The Martin Keighley party as well as Worthington’s Pre-Training party who are back to support us once again this evening. On behalf of Worcester Racecourse we also would like to express our warm condolences to the family of Richard and Sue Hitchings, of which we have 3 races in memory of the two big fans of horse racing. We look forward to welcoming you and all other sponsor to the parade ring so you can get up close and personal to the horses.

If this is of interest to you to make your day here extra special, why not have a race in your own name. it is a great way to enjoy a day out, creating brilliant memories and why not combine it with hospitality in a private box or our Severn restaurant. For more details, please email our management at info@worcester-racecourse.co.uk

On the 6th September, Worcester Racecourse are taking part in a Dragon Boat Challenge on behalf of Racing Welfare; a fantastic charity which supports the whole of the racing industry. It is proving to be very competitive already with top yards competing against each other, National Hunt jockeys holding a team, as well as ARC vs The Jockey Club! Within this race card you will find more details on what is involved and how you can donate… we need all the luck we can get!

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Ann was a wonderfully happy person whose love for life was infectious.

Often referred to as the “life and soul of the party”, Ann embraced the fun in all that she did.

Ann was a lover of horses, taking her children on riding holidays Later, when her son Anthony bought a racehorse, it was natural that she loved going to watch him race and visit the yard to see him train or feed him a carrot in the field.

Sorely missed by all who knew her, Ann will always be remembered with a fond smile
