WELCOME
A very warm welcome to Worcester Racecourse this Thursday afternoon With 7 exciting races this afternoon, grab a drink, find a comfortable spot with great views and soak up the atmosphere. Todays race card is jam packed; kicking off with The Roy Northall 40 Years at Worcestershire FA EBF Mares Novice Chase, which is a Class 3 and has a prize pot of £12,000 whilst being a well recognised qualifier for Mares. Good luck to all runners and riders today; we do hope a safe return. A huge thank you to all our sponsors today who continue to support Worcester Racecourse. We welcome Worcestershire FA for the first time here at the racecourse, celebrating Roy Northall and do hope you all have a very enjoyable afternoon with us. A special thank you to UKO Serviced Offices, Lowes Garages, Radio Wyvern, Richard Newland Racing, PJ Nicolls and FBC Manby Bowdler who support Worcester regularly and we, as a team, very much appreciate all you do. More details of all our sponsors can be viewed within this race card, as well as from Cornelius Lysatt around our parade ring. Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

This looks likely to go to a chasing debutante and GLIMPSE OF GALA is selected to come out on top before the benefit of market clues. The main danger may emerge from Lady Adare, who returned to form following a third breathing operation when a close third at Newton Abbot in August and could take a step forward now chasing, with Space Voyage and Galice Macalo another couple fancied to be in the shake-up.

DOUGHMORE BAY got the better of Ikarak when they met here in May and, with this stiffer test likely to prompt improvement, Emma Lavelle’s charge is taken to uphold that form. Ikarak has the advantage of a recent run under his belt and won’t go down without a fight, while Mullys Choice and Outside Adesa, both of whom showed ability between the flags, need a close look in the betting. Kick Up A Storm is surely capable of better than he showed in a bumper last year and is not discounted.

HORSE WELFARE It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected whilst a diagnosis of the injury is made by one of the three veterinary surgeons deployed around the course. The screens are designed to afford privacy during this diagnosis. Please do not always assume the worse, and at all times the horse’s welfare is our paramount concern.
