Welcome to Worcester Racecourse for a thrilling evening of jump racing!

For our first evening fixture of 2024, we welcome Jennings Bet who are our headline sponsors for tonight.

Last Saturday was our opening fixture and biggest of the season. After 7 months of being out of action and completing a brand new weighing room development; we are proud of all our team who delivered a hugely successful Ladies Day. The day did not come without challenges, but we would like to thank you all who joined us and had a fantastic day and danced the evening away to Planet ABBA and DJ Spencer Lowe. Do check out our social media platforms to experience the event, and to keep an eye out on the early bird ticket sales.

On the track we have a total of 70 horses declared, across 7 races. As a team we would like to wish each and everyone today, the very best of luck and hope you have a very enjoyable evening with us.

With our new configuration of the parade ring, do ensure to take a walk down towards new weighing room and experience the new expansive area. Find a table, grab a drink, and soak up the atmosphere.

We have a full house of sponsors today; Jennings Bet, SEP Rail, FBC Mamby Bowdler, and the Napton Golf Society are all supporting Worcester Racecourse of which we are very grateful for SEP Rail have joined us for a full day today of which we hope it has been a great success and we can welcome you back here once again soon. Within this racecard provides you with more information on what they do.

Now that our Season is fully up and running, we are looking ahead to our next upcoming fixtures and events. Follow us on our social media platforms for an update on what is going on, but we really cannot wait for our brand new theme Country Racenight later in July, the Balloon Festival in a couple of weeks, as well as Family Fun Day in September Both fixtures are not to be missed, but there will certainly more exiting race days ahead. Watch this space!

Thank you all for supporting Worcester Racecourse and have a great evening with us and good luck!

We hope to see you again for our next race day on Wednesday 19th June for a great afternoon of racing.

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Worcester

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary

Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.worcester-racecourse.co.uk.

Racegoers are requested to be particularly aware of their personal safety in all areas where they come into close contact with the horses, such as the parade ring and the horse walks.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): F O’Brien (40 wins from 186 runners, 22%) runs MAYS HILL TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): D Skelton (9 wins from 27 runners, 33%) runs GIULIETTA LONGEST TRAVELLER: ASA trained by P Kirby, Richmond, 181 miles.

Having dropped a long way in the weights, ASA returned to form when beaten only by an improver at Market Rasen last time, so she is taken to build on that effort and get her head in front. The main danger could be Dancingontheedge, who is capable of getting involved from her current mark, with Giulietta also in the mix.
