Our race day presenter, Cornelius Lysaght, is here with us once again guiding us through the day Head down to the parade ring just before the 1st race, where he will be presenting all the horses, announcing the winning grooms, and winners of each race. Cornelius is our resident tipster also so do listen out carefully as he is sure to tip a winner!

Here at Worcester Racecourse, we are currently recruiting for a number of positions. If you have a passion for horse racing and are an outgoing, enthusiastic team player email our management team at info@worcester-racecourse.co.uk for details. The adverts are also shown within this race card.

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Worcester

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary

Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.worcester-racecourse.co.uk.

Safety

In the interests of public safety all visitors to the Racecourse should follow directions of the Safety Stewards on the Stands and the Race Day Staff throughout the Racecourse. Please do not leave bags or your possessions unattended at any time as this could cause a security alert. It is an offence to be drunk at a sporting event and for this reason people clearly under the influence of alcohol will be asked to leave the racecourse. Racegoers are requested to be particularly aware of their personal safety in all areas where they come into close contact with the horses, such as the parade ring and the horse walks.

Seating/Viewing

Racegoers are requested not to stand in the marked gangways on the Grandstand Steppings as this will compromise safety

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

While supporting a 20-race maiden is generally risky business, in the case of GONE IN SIXTY such a leap of faith is not required Indeed, the 7-y-o has shown more than enough to suggest that he has a race of this nature in him off this sort of mark. Best Mate Dave is interesting on his debut in this sphere and is feared most ahead of Jac Jumper, who may well reverse recent C&D placings with Calvic Tribesmans Glory was a winner last time and also enters calculations

JOLIE BAIE probably did well to come from so far back to win at Ffos Las on her reappearance and further progress is a distinct possibility for a mare who is very much unexposed as a stayer. Dan Skelton’s Huntingdon scorer Hugueneau rates an obvious danger, while Getaway Glory would be a threat to all if able to translate his recent chase form back to hurdles Royal Sam has come down a long way in the weights and is one to note in the betting under Harry Cobden.

RACE STATS RACE SUMMARY

A few in with a squeak but MAYS HILL found only an improved rival too strong over C&D last month, and with the winner that day going in again since, Fergal O’Brien’s 6-y-o is fancied to open her account in this sphere at the expense of Hazels Delight, who makes her handicap debut having shaped as though she would come on for her return at Market Rasen recently Inspector Lynley and Joker du Chenet can fight out third.
