Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ★★★★★ Selected to win the race. ★★★★✩ Good chance of being placed. ★★★✩✩ By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims ★★✩✩✩ Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ★✩✩✩✩ Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Martyn Meade boasts a very respectable strike rate with 2-y-os this season and SIKORSKY wouldn’t need to be out of the ordinary to make a winning debut. The Dubawi colt ticks plenty of the right boxes on paper and the hint should be taken if he’s strong in the betting. MEADOW SPRITE arguably shaped better than the bare result when third to She’s No Angel at Newcastle and, armed with a handy pull at the weights here, Hughie Morrison’s charge is taken to come out on top this time. She’s No Angel should give another good account all the same, and she is next on the list ahead of Carmela Soprano and recent Ffos Las winner Beryl Burton. 1-2-3: 1.MEADOW SPRITE (IRE) 2.SHE’S NO ANGEL (IRE) 3.CARMELA SOPRANO KEY colours

RACE SUMMARY Assuming all is well following a year off, PRECISELY should prove a tough nut to crack. Indeed, she looked one to follow when bagging a couple of Bath handicaps in the latter stages of last season and may well have more to offer this year and beyond. Eased slightly in class off a reduced mark, Fashion Free is expected to emerge as the main danger.
