Sails of Glory – Point Values (English Version) (Version 1.04)

POINT VALUES

POINT VALUES

T 2

his is a point system to help Sails of Glory players design balanced scenarios and for use in tournaments. It includes ships from the first two series released for the game. Each ship has a point cost.

Ability cards can be added to single ships, with the cost of each ability added to the cost of the ship.

For example, if you agree with your opponent on a 400-point battle, lasting until one side defeats the other, the British player could choose for HMS Vanguard (135 points), HMS Terpsichore (68 points), HMS Juno (68 points), HMS Concorde (76 points), HMS Fairy (37 points), Good Aim (6 points), Iron Captain (2 points), Elite Marine (1 points), Fast Thinking (5 points), Elite Marines (1 points) for 399 points total.

Ship cost may also be affected by special rules or penalties. Penalties include initial damage to ship, crew, or both that decrease the ship cost; no ship can have more than two boxes of each kind of damage at the start of the game.

The French player could choose Commerce de Marseille (200 points), Courageuse (74 points), Dryade (87 points), Alligator (37 points) and Iron Captain (2 points) for 400 points total.

Each type of coastal battery also has a cost.

The point system is designed for scenarios where the goal is to destroy the enemy fleet. Handicaps can also be given to take into account different initial positions and a weak position to the wind.

Players can set the number of points for each side: for example, 150 in a battle between frigates (allowing a couple of ships), 220 for a battle with the ships in the Starter set, or 300 points to allow two ships on the line on each side. Then, each player can choose as many ships, skills, special rules, and penalties as desired, up to that amount of points.

New entries since the previous version are highlighted in red.

Scenarios with different goals (force blocks, disembark supplies and so on) can also be balanced by changing the exact definition of the goal, table size, and other such factors, with points being used as a guideline to compare the strength of each side.
