Cochise College held its convocation on Saturday, August 20th at the Santa Cruz Center. Instructors, staff, and board members were in attendance. They were greeted by the Santa Cruz Cochise College Coalition, and enjoyed a delicious Mexican Breakfast buffet. The convocation started with a welcome greeting by the center director Gabriel Galindo. “Many universities, and colleges have to go out of their way to recruit students. Here at Cochise College we are very fortunate, as every year we welcome more and more students to the college. Our main issue now is having large enough classrooms to accommodate so many students,” said Gabriel Galindo.
Cochise College in Santa Cruz County has grown rapidly in the last couple of years. It is offering more, and more classes locally to accommodate students. The college now employs onsite full time instructors for math, and English. The convocation continued with honoring an instructor with the STAR award. The STAR award is given to an instructor who goes above, and beyond to help students succeed. This year Roxanne Teran was honored with the award by her peers for great work, and dedication to students. “I am deeply humbled by receiving this award. I enjoy teaching,” said Ms. Teran.
