Design Description
Restaurant & Lounge
At the planning stage we decided that the Bar needed to be the focal point, to act as space for gathering and socializing. Then from here we would branch out to more private and intimate dinning areas. We have fashioned a restaurant and bar as layered, plush, and richly detailed as an Indian Palace. Using sumptuous materials and meticulous craftsmanship, We conjured a sense of history and tradition. In terms of design and architecture, the restaurant combines local and Indian influences into a contemporary look. The façade was treated using a simplified form of the Moghul inspired arches, which would take you back in time and give a sense place. It visually connects the customer back to the Northwest frontier architecture and then makes a transition to more modern elements as they move inward with elements, which are defined by straight and planar surfaces. The entrance to the space is accentuated by the creating facets of an individual arch from the façade and the stretching it inside, so the customer arrives are juncture were the bar is flanked onto the right and the dinning space on the left. The Arches along the exterior façade was incorporated with glass panes to let in natural light to most of the dinning space along the periphery.

Client Brief The client wanted to bring the flavours of British influenced Indian Cuisine to the region, offering customers a unique dining experience in an elegant and chic setting. A place, which will feature a contemporary yet modern design. The restaurant will be sectioned creating intimate spaces and semi private areas for groups. Whether you want to watch the latest sports matches, celebrate an occasion or unwind and enjoy a delicious meal whilst soaking up the ambience. Dining out is rarely just about the food. The scene, the socializing, and the sense of a special event are equally important. When done right, a restaurant’s design enhances all of these elements. A simple meal seems that much more appetizing when paired with appealing furniture, luxurious finishes, and alluring lighting.

Design Methodology Material selection and the choice of colour palate was key to project in order to convey brand Spice and Ice. Hardwood and Armani Black marble we mainly used for flooring. Use of back painted glass; high quality veneer, lacquered and fabric surfaces were used for the all the joinery items. The customized lighting fixtures are one of the most beautiful features that have been included in the design along with the subtle light and intimate atmosphere. A beautiful play of LED lamps takes center stage flanking the full length of the lounge seating, right opposite the bar. They resemble the oil lamps displayed along temples facades. Light is the symbol of glittering the mind. By placing this element in the middle we give power = fire; and the light = heat it generates is the splendor that is at the middle of the body of all living beings. A very important and significant element in the design as it caters to the different moods that the restaurant would want to set for their customers and for the many special events taking place during the week. Spice is signified by the use of red in the upholstery and the cool blue lights from the LED lamps emphasize Ice. Many textured surfaces along with gold-foiled walls were used in various areas to signify opulence and luxury seen in palaces across north India. Overall the style is a synthesis of contemporary and traditional elements.
