About
Marina del Rey Located in the heart of the beautiful Los Angeles coastline and only 4 miles from LAX, Marina del Rey is the Westside’s premier waterfront playground.
A
dventure-seekers can take full advantage of the year-round sunny weather with on-the-water fun, such as chartered sailing excursions, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, paddleboard yoga, jet ski rentals, and more. The Marina is also the pick-up point for deep-sea sportfishing trips and parasailing, both of which head out onto Santa Monica Bay. And even serious cyclists pause for the scenery on the 22-mile Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail, which stretches between Pacific Palisades to the north and Torrance to the south—the route’s leg in Marina del Rey offers views of passing sailboats, sea lions, and quintessential California sunsets. Diners tend to stay a while at local restaurants, as it’s easy to become enthralled by views of luxury yachts and the early evening light reflecting on the water. Large picture windows at Cafe del Rey and dining patios at Tony P’s, Cast & Plow, Whiskey Red’s, and Beachside boast some of the best views in town. At Killer Shrimp and Fisherman’s Village, patrons can “Dock and Dine”—that is, tie up their small boat or kayak at the free dinghy dock and head ashore for a meal. Or, dine on the water with Hornblower Cruises, which offers year-round brunch and dinner sailings with musical entertainment. No rental car? No problem! Try The Free Ride, a fleet of electric shuttles that offer free, on-demand transportation in the Marina. The Free Ride runs daily from noon to 9 p.m. The service area covers the Marina’s six hotels and many restaurants, as well as Fisherman’s Village, Burton Chace Park, the Waterside
shopping center, and Marina Beach. Visitors can also catch a ride to the Venice Pier and Abbot Kinney Boulevard in neighboring Venice. To get picked up, simply wave down a car, or send a text to request a ride. You can also take the free year-round weekend Beach Shuttle and the summer season $1 WaterBus. (See page 43 for details on transportation.) With Marina del Rey as a home base for a Southern California getaway, visitors are within a short drive to L.A.’s popular tourist attractions—the world-famous Venice Beach and Santa Monica are right next door! And after a busy day of exploring, there’s no better place to come back to than any of the Marina’s six waterfront hotels, all of which offer sparkling harbor views.
Marina del Rey translates to “Harbor of the King”

Fisherman’s Village
Boating, dining, entertainment, cool breezes and picturesque harbor views — Marina del Rey’s Fisherman’s Village has it all. The shops at Fisherman’s Village offer t-shirts, sweatshirts, jewelry, vintage clothing, art, woodwork, historical memorabilia, and Marina del Rey and Hollywood souvenirs. Eco-friendly sustainable stuffed plush toys are offered by IndyPlush. You’ll find the best waterfront views of Marina del Rey’s main channel, busy with boats coming and going. At its docks are recreational rentals, charter vessels, seasonal whale watching and water taxi, and a commercial fishing fleet. Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Cape Cod are brought to life architecturally with colorful structures and an iconic lighthouse. Pelicans, seals and sunsets abound. Bring camera! Popular live concerts are presented weekends in the lighthouse food court, which offers a variety of takeout by Thai Garden, Lighthouse Fountain and Grill, and KC’s Crepes. For classic full service, Sapori Restaurant offers exquisite Italian cuisine, beautifully presented, with views of the harbor from inside and from its outdoor dining patio. The popular
El Torito offers margueritas and mexican cuisine. For dessert, visit Daniel’s Ice Cream. Marina del Rey Sportfishing offers daily fishing trips and seasonal whale-watching. Larger groups celebrate special occasions aboard elegant party charter vessels operated by Tiki Mermaid and Hornblower Cruises. Additional charters are offered by Blue Pacific Boating and Marina Sailing. On the docks, Marina del Rey Boat Rentals offers humanpowered stand-up paddle boards, kayaks and small sailboats., as well as powerboats, jet skis, and quiet electric ‘Duffy’ boats. Marina del Rey Parasailing is the ticket to a thrilling aerial view of Santa Monica Bay and beaches. Marina del Rey Historical Society tells the story of Marina del Rey’s creation with an exhibit at its History Gallery, and in its book, Images of America: Marina del Rey, available for purchase, along with photos, DVDs, T-Shirts, holiday ornaments and more. For narrated Marina history, take Starline Tours’ narrated Hop-on Hop-off buses. For fun and scenic exercise, peddle a portion of the Marvin Braude Bike Path. The 22-mile route goes right by Fisherman’s Village, about a mile north of midpoint. Daniel’s Bike Rentals can assist with equipment. During summer months, the Marina del Rey Waterbus ferries passengers around the harbor, and a landward Beach Shuttle connects the Village with the rest of Marina del Rey, Venice Pier, and Playa Vista. From downtown Los Angeles, visitors can take Metro Expo Line light rail to Culver City station. From there, Culver CityBus Line 7 goes directly to Fisherman’s Village. Fisherman’s Village is located at 13737 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292. 2 hours free parking with validation. Information, (424) 526-7900. marina del rey Destination Guide 35
