October 2015

Preface

Creator Arianne Cortez hi guys. welcome to the first publication of *insert magazine title*. this little passion project has been the creative outlet that i have been looking for since the start of the year. i previously tried to experiment with exposure.co and see if i can share my photos and stories there, but the interface did not attract me, same goes for blogging on tumblr/wix/wordpress. then one night, after watching one too many indesign tutorials on lynda, the indesign interface just suddenly clicked to me and i was finally able to understand how the program worked and saw the unlimited options for users to create things. these little collective of photos and stories have been compiled from around august 2015 to july 2016. it includes some never before seen photos that i have taken and stories that hold memorable experiences with my best friend in the city of los angeles. it shows the great times that we have enjoyed, from all the concerts to the creation of capslock. hopefully you can see through my perspective how i saw life outside of school and home. and how all these stories that i recall have literally shaped me into who i am as a person, as a lover of art, music, and great design. if you are somehow one of my past english teachers reading this, my bad for all my run-on sentences and grammar mistakes, this is my magazine and i can do what i want. you can probably tell that i hang around the arts district often. this magazine is probably a direct influence from all those hipsters sitting next to me, drinking their cold brew in groundwork cafe working on their art projects, planning their next pop-up shop carefully curated from ethically sourced goods. and to all the not-mac-demarco-but-sounds-exactly-like-macdemarco music that i have been listening to for the past two weeks.

anyways here is the first volume of *insert magazine title* AC written from home norwalk, california 26 june 2016

THE BROAD MUSEUM Written: October 2, 2015 So its like September 2015 and I’m scrolling through Instagram, and I swear I swiped down through more than 20 photos in a row of The Broad. Naturally wanting hit only the trendiest spots, I was inclined to give the museum a visit especially since I saw those gigantic Jeff Koons sculptures. Blessed to have a friend with the same fondness for *aesthetics*, I was able to visit the museum during opening month.

Visiting the Broad for the first time was totally unintentional. Julie and I were in LA after-school to visit our kimchi pals at the warehouses for capslock, and after we were done with that business, we realized that the Broad was still open and drove there as soon as we could before it closed. This place has been fully booked online through February and we were surprisingly able to get standby tickets after waiting for 5 minutes *yay*.

Walking around the museum is pretty surreal. On the outside, the building looks like an average size building, but then as you walk into the 3rd floor (the main space) the open layout really encompasses you with the grand size of the museum and how excellently placed each piece is. Right when you ride up the 3 flight escalator, you are immediately faced with one of Koon’s sculptures.

Then, the visit became a capslock photo shoot aka photoshoot for Julie so that she can have a new avi on twitter or facebook - having such a conceited friend is a blessing and a curse because its nice to have someone that is comfortable in front of the camera but then everything becomes a “shoot. // ily julie

Visiting the Broad is definitely worth the time if your in the area. Overall, it was great to visit a museum that appealed to a broader *hehe* age range. I have never seen so many young people at a museum and the Broad did a great job in marketing the museum for them too. As a fan of art, it was nice to finally see people to look at art, even though it was evident that some of them might only be there so that they could pose for a photo in front of a piece for Instagram *cough cough*

btw: its pronounced more as b-roaaaad

Steal this look: Tee & Undershirt: Supreme Pants: Supreme Fanny Pack: Supreme Shoes: Supreme

in the making of this photo, i accidently banged julie’s head against the sign so i can better position her head. also, right when i finally got my camera settings set, the worker turned off the sign * 1 star yelp review *
