ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY | BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND | YEAR 3
THE CONCEPT FOR THIS BUILDING IS REPRESENTED THROUGH THE WAY IN WHICH ART IS REPRESENTED IN THE DAILY LIVES OF THE PUBLIC. EACH MEMBER OF A SOCIETY HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE, EITHER WITNESSING OR CREATING. THROUGH THE REQUEST OF A CREATIVE ARTS CENTER AT ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY, THE NEED FOR A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS TO COME TOGETHER TO CREATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL WAS IN ORDER. THIS PROJECT IS MEANT SOLELY TO REPRESENT THE SOCIAL ASPECT OF OUR SCHOOL, WHICH INVOLVES THE JOINING OF MANY PEOPLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOMETHING WONDERFUL.

THE BASIS OF MY CONCEPT IS CENTERED AROUND THE IDEA OF MAKING A SPACE WHICH WOULD BRING A COMMUNITY TOGETHER IN AN EASILY ACCESIBLE MANNER. THE NEXT STEP INVOLVED FIGURING OUT THE BEST WAY TO DESIGN THE CIRCULATION OF PEOPLE AND AUTOMOBILES. THE FINAL DESIGN AIMED FOR SIMPLICITY AND EFFICIENCY, WHICH FITS PERFECTLY WITHIN THE DEFINITION OF WHAT A STREAMLINE IS. THIS IDEA OF STREAMLINING TRANSLATES INTO A FUNCTIONAL IDEA OF THE PROCESS OF COLLECTING PEOPLE AND DISTRIBUTING THEM ALL OVER. THE PROJECT TAKES A STREAMLINE FORM AND CONCEPT.

THE SKETCHES BELOW ARE MY PROCESS WORK FROM WHEN I WAS FIGURING OUT THE DETAILS OF MY STRUCTURE. I WANTED THE STRUCTURE TO REPRESENT THE CLEAN AND STREAMLINE DESIGN THAT FOLLOWS THE WHOLE SCHEME OF THE BUILDING.

WESTPORT, MASSACHUSSETTS | YEAR 2
THIS BARN, LOCATED IN WESTPORT, MASSACHUSSETTS, SYMBOLIZES THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF WHAT A BARN REPRESENTS. THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE ORGANIZATION OF THIS PROJECT HAS TO DO WITH THE UNITY AND BREAKING DOWN OF ELEMENTS THAT, WHEN CONNECTED, ARE APART OF SOMETHING GREATER. THIS IDEA CAN BE VISUALIZED THROUGH WHAT IT MEANS TO BE APART OF A COMMUNITY, A FARM AND A FAMILY.

THE SITE IN WHICH THIS PROJECT IS LOCATED IS SURROUNDED BY DENSE HISTORIC TOWNHOUSES, ULITIZING PRIMARILY BRICK MATERIALITY AND STRICT MODULAR WINDOW ORENTIATIONS. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE NEEDS OF MODERN BOSTON’S SOCIETY, I CHOOSE TO KEEP THE BASIS OF THE HISTORIC MODULAR, BUT ADD MODERN FRAMING ELEMENTS TO HIGHLIGHT THE SMALLER APARMENT SPACES THAT LIE BEHIND THE FACADE. THIS FACADE SYSTEM I HAVE CHOSE ALLOWS FOR AMPLE SUN CONTROL AND VENTILATION.
8 ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY | BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND | YEAR 3 THE BASE CONCEPT OF THIS DESIGN REVOLVES AROUND THE CROSSING OF THE TWO MAJOR PROGRAMMTIC ELEMENTS OF THE BUILDING; THE AQUATIC SPACE AND THE RECREATIONAL SPACE. THE FINAL FORM CONSISTS OF TWO BARS, THE LARGER BAR HOUSING THE POOLS AND SEATING, AND THE SMALLER HOUSING THE REMAINDER OF THE PROGRAM. THE STRUCTURE THAT SUPPORTS EACH BAR IS SIMPLY DESIGNED USING STREEL BEAM AND POSTS, WHILE VARYING IN SHAPE AND SIZE DUE TO THE VARYING SPANS. THE AREA IN WHICH THE SMALLER BAR STRUCTURALLY PENETRATES THE LARGER BAR, DEFINES A CENTRAL GATHERING AREA, WHICH HOLDS THE LOBBY AS WELL AS THE MAIN CIRCULATION.

10 FLORENCE, ITALY | STUDY ABROAD EXPIERENCE | YEAR 4
THIS URBAN DESIGN PROJECT WAS MET WITH THREE MAIN PROGRAMS, THE FIRST AND FOREMOST BEING THE DESIGN OF A SQUARE [PIAZZA] LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF FLORENCE [FIRENZE], ITALY. WITHIN THE SQUARE THERE WERE TO BE TWO BUILDINGS, A LIBRARY AND STUDENT HOUSING FOR THE SURROUNDING CAMPUS. THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO INTERVENE A BETTER DESIGN IN THIS PREXISTING SQUARE, UTILIZING THE FOLLOWING GOALS: CREATE A BETTER CONNECTION WITH THE SURROUNDING STREETS BOTH VISUALLY AND PHYSICALLY; CREATE A SPACE TO INTEGRATE THE UNIVERSITYAND THE COMMUNITY; LAYOUT THE PIAZZA SO BOTH THE ACITIVITY SPACES AND UTILITIES ARE AESTHETICALLY PLEASING AND FUNCTIONAL; CREATE MORE COMFORTABLE PEDESTRIAN TRAVEL; MINIMIZE VEHICULAR TRAFFIC THROUGHOUT THE PIAZZA; ADD UNDERGROUND PARKING FACILITY TO MINIMIZE STREET PARKING SURROUNDING THE PIAZZA; CREATE A MORE DIFINITIVE GREEN SPACE AND LOCATE LIBRARY AND HOUSING IN ORDER TO GENERATE BETTER PUBLIC GATHERING SPACES. AS FOR THE LIBRARY AND THE STUDENT HOUSING, THE PLANS ARE KEPT OPEN AND ORGANIZED. THE MAIN ARCHITECTURAL FEATURE UTILIZED IN THESE DESIGNS ARE THEIR FLORENCE STREET MAP ELEVATION PATTERNS, WHICH ALLOW FOR THESE BUILDINGS TO REPRESENT HISTORICAL FLORENCE IN A MODERN FASHION.

THIS WAS A ONE WEEK COMPETITION PROJECT DURING THE FALL OF MY THIRD YEAR. THIS “PORTER’S LODGE” IS A HUT LOCATED AT ONE OF THE MAIN ENTRANCES OF ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS, WHICH HOUSES PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL. THE CONCEPT OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO TAKE A BASIC SHAPE AND ALLOW IT TO BREAK OPEN AND HAVE IT’S ARMS SPREAD, TO WELCOME NEW AND RETURNING VISITORS TO CAMPUS. THE BLUE AND GOLD COLORS REPRESENT THE COLORS OF THE UNIVERSITY.

I HAVE CHOSEN THESE SIX PIECES OF ARTWORK TO PUBLISH IN ORDER TO DISPLAY THE RANGE OF WORK I HAVE CREATED. SINCE BEING IN ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL, I HAVE ALWAYS USED ART SIMULTANEOUSLY AS A BREAK FROM STUDIO BUT ALSO AS A FUEL TO LIGHT THE CREATIVE PROCESS FOR MY STUDIO WORK. I HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO MAINTAIN A HARMONY BETWEEN MY ART AND ARCHITECTURE WORK SO EVERY PROJECT I COMPLETE IS UTILIZING THE EXTENTS OF ALL MY ABILITIES.
