Open Space: Elevated Structure

Re-Purposing Creating a sense of place is key in creating a vibrant and lively neighborhood. Rather than ignoring its industrial past, Vision Park celebrates the former freeway structure by re-purposing it into open space. It’s function is for enjoying art, through industrial sculptures and unique views of the city. It is strategically located where the industrial area becomes more residential and the structure deteriorates, leaving just the arches as it moves into a finer grained neighborhood aesthetic. The arches play a pivotal role in way finding and creating a sense of identity for this ‘in-between’ neighborhood. Additionally, the grand staircases maintain connectivity to the streets below. The structure also catches rainfall and lets it trickle down along louvers attached to the grand staircases thus redirecting water to the green space below.
