City won’t fund UA road repairs KYLE MITTAN Arizona Daily Wildcat

University streets don’t fall under Proposition 409’s plans for reparations, but a 10-year plan from UA Facilities Management, along with streetcar work, will aim to address campus roads that some say are in need of repaving. The proposition, which passed on election night with a 50.33 percent “yes” vote, granted a $100-million bond to the city of Tucson to “restore, repair and resurface” streets within the city limits across five years, according to the proposition’s page on the city’s website. But repairs to come in result of the proposition’s passage won’t cover streets on the university campus, said Steve Kozachik, a city councilman for Tucson’s Ward 6, which includes the university. With a few exceptions, the

UA’s streets remain separate from the city, leaving 409’s repairs to have “no bearing at all” over areas within the university’s square-mile campus. But a 10-year plan for campus street reparations aims to address a number of issues, and past repairs have already done so, said Chris Kopach, the assistant vice president for Facilities Management. Kopach added that the plan is still waiting for funding approval, and is calling for anywhere between $250,000 to $500,000. The plan would also address more than just a few streets, Kopach said. “We’ve gone through this entire campus — north campus and main campus,” he said. “We’ve looked at all our streets, all our sidewalks, all our handicap ramps, and we have all those prioritized, those that need

The man said he could not see the woman’s car because of other vehicles going the opposite direction in the left turn lane. After a break in traffic, the man proceeded to turn into the intersection in front of the woman.

Green Fund tables allocation requests BRITTNY MEJIA Arizona Daily Wildcat

Members of the UA Green Fund Committee discussed project alteration requests, voted on minigrant proposals and addressed concerns regarding the allocation of money at their second open meeting of the year. Lauren Erdelyi, chair of the Green Fund and a senior studying psychology and conservation biology opened the floor for new business regarding mini-grant proposals and asked for any questions, concerns or comments from fellow members. A motion to extend the request of the UA’s School Garden Workshop Showcase grant proposal passed unanimously, and a motion to table the discussion on a mini-grant regarding the UA Community and School Garden Outreach T-shirts also passed with

a slight majority. Member Logan Bilby then moved to open discussion on a project alteration request that includes “promoting student leadership and sustainability education on campus and in the community.” Members unanimously voted to approve the extension request for the proposal and then moved on to discuss another request known as Improving the Sustainability of the Chemical Engineering Unit Operations Laboratory with Cooling Water Recirculation. The Chemical and Environmental Engineering department proposed the project and funds were approved in the previous year. However, some members questioned the request that some of the money from the funds be
