The Eller College of Management’s business program moved up from No. 24 to No. 22 in the U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of top accredited undergraduate business programs. The UA also moved up to number 119 in the rankings of the nation’s best colleges. Thanks to exceptional research, world-renowned professors and successful alumni, the UA is being noticed and recognized in the scholarly world, said Anji Siegel, director of Special Programs for Management Information Systems in the Eller College of Management. Accessibility to student resources and undergraduate research have also boosted the UA’s rankings. The UA pulled in more than $454 million from academic research last year, an amount that is continuing to grow, according to the UA’s annual fiscal report. “Many factors go into rankings such as the recent ones released by U.S. News & World Report, including

Returning freshmen are also factored into the ranking, according to Baldasare, who said 80.2 percent of 2011 freshmen returned to the UA their sophomore year. This was a growth of 3.9 percent from the prior year. “We are still waiting for the official numbers for this year, but we expect to see this trend continue,” Baldasare

The Arizona Board of Regents is working on establishing a triuniversity task force in the next few weeks in order to increase student safety across the state. Although the makeup of the task force has not yet been determined, the regents are looking to include university leaders, community leaders, potential law enforcement members and students, according to Katie Paquet, the board’s vice president for public affairs and external relations. The task force’s purpose will be to examine issues related to student safety and work with different parties regarding these issues. “We want to make sure that students attending our university … are studying and living in a safe environment,” Paquet said. “We want to talk about healthy

The Daily Wildcat The UA Student Recreation Center began issuing a survey to random faculty members last Tuesday to get feedback on how to improve the facilities for UA faculty. Only a small percentage of UA faculty members use the facilities at the Rec Center, according to Lynn Zwaagstra, the director of Campus Recreation. In an effort to show that the center is not just for students, a survey is being collected through Sept. 20 regarding how the Rec Center can better cater to the needs of UA faculty and staff. The survey asks about barriers that prevent faculty from wanting to use the facilities and includes open-ended questions for voicing concerns. Zwaagstra said many faculty members gave the Rec Center feedback when the center conducted a student survey a year

Out of 14,000 UA faculty members, 6,500 faculty emails were selected for the survey, according to Zwaagstra. When it was announced that the survey of faculty would be

conducted, Zwaagstra said the Rec Center got emails within an hour from people interested in participating. The biggest reason faculty may be less inclined to use the facilities is its title — the Student Recreation Center, Zwaagstra said.
