Hey UA Students and T-Loc’s, WTF?!

You hold in your hands the FOURTH edition of Tucson’s newest guide to FUN, FUSION and FIESTAS!

We have SO much more food, music, dancing and party spots to share with you this week.

It’s BLUES WEEK in Tucson! We’ve got all the details covered for you. Also, don’t miss our in-depth profile and interview with Znora! Znora is an award-winning three piece band that’s Tucson-born and thriving! Members write original tunes and cite all kinds of influences… from Chuck Berry and Santana to SRV and Jimi Hendrix. Read up first, then come here them live on the UofA mall at noon on October 25th as part of Arizona Student Media’s Off Campus Housing Fair… right before they open that night for ZZ Topp! Also come and find your next place to home!

On any given weekend there are music events across almost every genre. When you ask the question “Where do you want to eat?” there are even more choices. Tucson is internationally known for our amazing restaurants and was the first city in America recognized by United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a “City of Gastronomy” because the food here tells the story of a culture that dates back 4,000 years.

The truth is, Tucson is bad ass place to be. However, lots of the cool stuff is underground and you need an insider to show you the way. That’s why we’re here with TUCSON WTF (WHERE’S THE FUN).

Tucson WTF asks and answers:

• Where’s the FOOD?

o Where is are great places to eat and/or drink?

• Where’s the FUSION?

o Where can I go to listen to music and dance?

• Where’s the FIESTAS?

o What else is there to do? Get me to the party!

Clearly, we are working that alliteration very hard. However, Tucson WTF is your guide to the underground and to the coolest parts of Tucson.

But we want to know what the “F” you’re looking for in Tucson… we’ve got plenty of F’s left to give… Fitness? Fashion? Faith? Please let us know how we can make this venture an even better source for all y’all! Email mark.marrero@arizona.edu.

While you’re reading this paper, ask yourself: How can Tucson WTF help me find all the F’s… including friends!

Sincerely,

UA Student Media

pound! pound! pound!

The rhythm of a crowd’s anticipation, the beat of a drum, the pulse of a city that’s embraced them from the start. This is what it feels like when you see Znora take the stage, and their sound fills the room. They’ve already played over 300 shows and are just getting started.

In 2019, members Adrian and Josh met at summer camp, bonding over a shared love of music. By the end of camp there was no question whether they would form a band—the rhythm was set. But, like the rest of us, they pressed pause on fulfilling their dream when the world shut down during the pandemic.

Josh and Adrian.”

Their music creation is as organic as their connection. “It’s kind of a group collab,” they explained. “We jam out a song, starting with a guitar riff, and after a while, we’re like... maybe this should be a song.”

While the music is a group effort, the lyrics belong to Adrian. He draws from a mixture of life experience and crafted stories.

Balancing school and music hasn’t been easy, though. Between classes and out-of-town gigs, they juggle

“We’ll be on the road, and Josh is in the back with his computer, cranking out

“We kind of lost that year,” they shared. “We couldn’t get together and make music.”

As the world reopened, Znora seized the opportunity to make up for lost time. Especially after Johny, the band’s new bassist joined the team.

Embuing the group with a newfound momentum, Johny didn’t waste time.

“It’s only been a year and a half, and we’ve done so much. I’ve already played over 200 shows with

math problems.”

Their dedication to both their education and their passion for music is palpable.

“It’s hard,” Johny admits, “but we make it work, AND we have fun!”

Znora’s story isn’t just about where they’ve been—it’s about where they’re going. Currently, they’re in the middle of producing a full-length album, with many of the songs already mixed and recorded. The band promises a few singles ahead of the album.

And as for dreams? Their eyes are set on some of the biggest stages in the world.

“Red Rocks would be awesome. Or even venues out of the country—having people show up to watch us in Japan or Europe—that would be a dream.”

Znora’s Performances and Personalities

Despite their ambitions, Znora has never forgotten their Tucson roots. Many people embraced them from the beginning, providing open mics and other performance opportunities that propelled them forward. The support from the local community has been overwhelming.

“People see how hard we work,” they share. “Johny’s been given basses and amps by musicians who just want to help us succeed.”

Znora is happy to give back, supporting initiatives like the Alice Cooper Teen Centers, a nonprofit that offers free music lessons to anyone between 12 and 20.

“We played an event about a month ago to encourage more local musicians to join the ‘Proof in the Pudding’ competition,” they said, fostering the next generation of artists just as they were supported.

Znora is a band that has played at iconic venues like the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, where they opened for Alice Cooper and Sammy Hagar. But they’re still down-to-earth guys at heart.

“We’re really into Star Wars,” they confess with a laugh. They are passionate about their LEGO set collections, love pop culture, enjoy trips to to Comic-Con and like dressing up for Halloween.

When asked what superpowers they’d choose if given the chance, their responses were as imaginative as their music.

“I’d maybe say like, being able to levitate or fly. That would be such an awesome show aspect, you know, without strings,” Adrian said.

Meanwhile, Johny took a more practical approach.

“Having Dr. Strange portals would be really helpful. Then we wouldn’t have to pay for travel.”

The thought of hopping between gigs with magical ease had the group laughing—though they each agreed.

world. I think it’d be really cool, learning from people all over the place for inspiration.”

Johny envisioned being part of something grand.

“I’d be in a big band, like maybe horns and a bunch of singers. I think that’d be fun.”

Josh, the heartbeat of the group, kept his focus on high-energy performances.

“Like a drummer in a pop band or something. Super high energy.”

Each idea showcases their individuality and unique flavors they’d bring to the music world.

Whether it’s dreaming of flying through the air during a performance or finding inspiration in antique shops from cities they visit, Znora is a band that thrives on the balance of ambition and grounded roots.

As they continue to create, perform, and inspire, one thing is for sure: this is only the beginning for Znora.

When it comes to solo ambitions, each artist has a distinct vision.

Adrian’s passion for experimentation shines through.

Tucson will continue to cheer Znora on every step of the way!
