SUSHI PLEASE!
International Sushi Day Is June 18, 2023
We encouraged our readers to enjoy a nice Prime Rib dinner at a casino in April’s issue (since April was National Prime Rib Month) and we immediately received tons of suggestions, opinions, and personal experiences through emails and online messages. All the awesome feedback from our fans prompted my team and I to start another reader poll in the May issue which casino has the best hamburger? Because, as you might have guessed, May was National Hamburger Month. Well, now I’m calling all Sushi lovers for this month’s challenge because it’s International Sushi Day on June 18. We can’t wait for you to tell us which casino serves up your favorite little scrumptious seaweed-wrapped fish delights.
From Michelin-starred restaurants to the grocery store shelves, sushi is everywhere. It’s not hard to find a decent roll, but the history and trivia behind the marriage of rice and fish are a mystery to most. Contrary to what many people think, it is a Chinese creation that was made popular in Japan. Another fun fact: the heat of real wasabi comes form the antimicrobial chemicals present in the plant and was used in sushi to kill any parasites and microbes in raw fish. Today, fish is flash-frozen, ruling out the fear of parasites. So, don’t be afraid when I tell you that some restaurants use fake wasabi which is just a blend of horseradish and mustard with green food coloring.
My team and I are so grateful to all of you for your correspondences. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. As we compile all the results based on your suggestions, we will announce the final casino winners in all categories in an upcoming issue.
