The Victoria Local Council has embarked on this project under the artistic direction of the Florentine Mr Alessandro Riccio because it firmly believes the need for such interactive experiences to give new life to the Citadel and shed more light on the islandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s history. The project concerns an event that is intended to be repeated throughout the summer season on a permanent basis, depending on the demand by tourists and locals. This year Twelve Steps will run at 8:30pm at the Cittadella Victoria Gozo on the following dates: 4th and 7th June 2010 30th and 31st July 2010 20th and 21st August 2010 17th and 18th September 2010

Feature The history of the island of Gozo has not always faithfully followed the path of the sister island. The island is shrouded in mystery, tales, legends and secrets. A unique interactive experience set in the Citadel of Victoria will try to unravel it all through a trail that will lead to the discovery of the islandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s best kept secrets. This unique interactive experience will involve a game-performance where the public will be free to choose whether to actively take part in it or passively observe the characters in the various selected places around the Citadel. The characters are fourteen in all. They range from the inquisitor to the pirate, from the Knight of Malta to Saint Paul and include abstract themes like death itself.

The game starts with a prisoner who is locked up in the prisons of the Citadel accused on trumped up charges of having conspired against the Knights of Malta and is handed a death sentence by hanging to be carried out at dawn. The poor man is distraught and desperate. He is given a final chance: if he can find someone that will unlock a set of riddles he will be spared. These riddles will only be unlocked by the enigmatic characters that come to life in the Citadel at night. As desperate as he is, he will besiege visitors to solve the riddles for him. There is only one way that of going around the Citadel and find the characters that can solve these riddles. The prisoner will provide participants with a map of the Citadel and implore them to help him. But this is no easy feat as the characters once found will not easily part away with their secrets. The participant has to understand, guess or do something to arrive to the answers. Each time the your Gozo guide - 9

participant solves the riddle s/he is given a symbol. Once all the symbols are collected and the riddles solved then the prisoner is spared. But beware; only the brave ones can complete it all. Once a winner is declared s/he is given a prize by the prisoner for saving his life.

Conchiglie with Mozzarella

Ingredients (Serves 4) 300g Cherry tomatoes halved 200g fresh mozzarella cheese, diced 10 fresh basil & mint leaves, torn 150ml olive oil 350g conchiglie 15g capers in oil, drained salt and pepper to taste Method (Preparation time 15min) Put tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and olive oil into a tureen. Cook the pasta in plenty of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and immediately tip on top of the mixture in the tureen so that the mozzarella melts slightly. Add the capers, toss well and serve immediately. Tip: You can use this sauce to make a cold pasta salad. Proceed as above but slightly undercook the pasta and cool it down under running water. For a tastier result, leave the seasoned pasta refrigerated for at least an hour before serving.

Mango & Ginger Grilled Chicken Method (Preparation time 30 minutes to 1 hour or over night for marinating the chicken)

Ingredients (Serves 4) 2 whole skinless, boneless chicken breasts Coarse salt and cracked black peppercorns 1 mango, peeled, seeded, and cut into Âź-inch dice 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and cut into Âź-inch dice 115g diced red onion 1 clove garlic, minced 30g chopped fresh mint, plus 4 mint sprigs for garnish 40ml fresh lime juice 20ml extra virgin olive oil

Cut each breast in half. Trim any sinews or excess fat off the chicken breasts and discard. Rinse the chicken breasts under cold running water, then drain and blot dry with paper towels. Generously season the breasts on both sides with salt and pepper. Place the breasts in a baking dish. Combine the mango, cucumber, onion, garlic, and chopped mint in a mixing bowl and stir to mix. Stir in the lime juice and olive oil and season with salt and pepper to taste; the mango mixture should be highly seasoned. Pour half of the mango mixture over the chicken breasts, turning to coat both sides. Let the chicken marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour in the refrigerator or over night, covered, turning the breasts once or twice so that they marinate evenly. Refrigerate the remaining mango mixture, covered; youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll use it as the salsa. Set up the grill pan and preheat to high. When ready to cook, drain the marinade from the chicken breasts and discard the marinade, oil the grill pan. Arrange the chicken breasts on the hot pan, placing them on a diagonal to the bars. Grill the chicken breasts until cooked through, 4 to 6 minutes per side. To test for doneness, poke a breast in the thickest part with your finger; it should feel firm to the touch. Transfer the grilled chicken breasts to a platter or plates. Spoon the mango salsa over them and garnish with the mint sprigs. Serve at once.

Ingredients (Serves 4) 8 strips back bacon 4 croissants 4 leafs of ice berg lettuce 1 Sliced peeled cucumber 8 eggs 120ml milk salt & pepper to taste

Method (Preparation time 10 to 15min) Slice bacon into small pieces and cook until almost crisp. While bacon is cooking, prepare the croissants by slicing them in half, line with lettuce and cucumber Drain bacon drippings. Beat eggs with milk, season with salt and pepper. Pour into a skillet with bacon and scramble over medium heat until set. Spoon mixture over and serve
