Gozo’s Underwater Paradise Article by Joanne Vella Gozo Tourism Association

Feature Whether you are seduced by the island’s clear waters ,or want to enjoy exploring sunken wrecks or live to experience coming face to face with a seahorse or a grouper are all thrills offered by the deep blue Gozo seas.

sport activity tends to miss out with the domestic market, especially those Maltese who are frequent visitors to our island.

Gozo dive sites in fact are well known for their natural beauty as well as for their clear practically tideless , currentless seas and exciting marine life. This was recently confirmed by readers of a UK diving magazines who voted Gozo as the third best location for diving around the world after the Maldives and Egypt. Diving around Gozo dates back to the eighties when this niche was started, which was to grow and develop into a market which is helping to combat Gozo’s seasonality. During these last years a number of vessels were scuttled on the southern coast of Gozo to create artificial wrecks which by time are developing into reefs, thus offering alternative diving sites to the north western coast. Diving has come a long way during the past 20 years, especially with the foreign tourists. However this

Although the future is promising, still much is to be done, like the underwater world beneath the gentle summer waves, there are still depths to be discovered. Gozo’s natural beauty is also being extended underwater which is even more prestine and untouched than on land. your Gozo guide - 9
