A Masterplan for the Gozo Citadel The old fortified city on the island of Gozo
With its distinctive skyline and imposing military architecture, Cittadella, the ancient fortified city, stands out as Gozo’s major landmark, a beacon visible from all over the island. The citadel 8 - your Gozo guide

The Ministry for Gozo recently presented the completion of the Citadel Masterplan, a project which will not only showcase the Cittadella’s heritage, but
the Cittadella in a sustainable manner, where top priority should be given for safeguarding local heritage. At the same time, the natural and cultural assets of
can foster new, sustainable activities including local arts and crafts whilst promoting Gozitan traditions and customs. The Masterplan proposes a long-term policy framework for managing

FEAST OF SAINT GEORGE St. George’s Basilica Victoria – Gozo
FRIDAY 16 JULY 9.30pm: The Prekursur Band (Xewkija) plays marches, starting from Republic Street and ending at St George’s Square, where it executes a musical programme under the direction of Mro Tonio Borg. 9.30pm: Grand Demonstration with the statue of St George Victorious along the main streets of Victoria. The La Stella and Mnarja (Nadur) Bands take part.
SATURDAY 19 JULY 11.00am: Band marches by the La Stella Band, from St George’s Square to the La Stella headquarters at Republic Street. 8.00pm: Musical programme at St George’s Square executed by King’s Own Band (Valletta), under the direction of Mro Dr John Galea. 9.30pm: At St George’s Square, the La Stella Band executes the immortal hymn A San Giorgio Martire (Prof. Luigi Billion – Mro Giuseppe Giardini Vella). 10.00pm: The La Stella and King’s Own (Valletta) Bands participate as a massed band in the triumphal and unique march along Republic Street. SUNDAY 18 JULY 8.30am: Pontifical Concelebration at St. George’s Basilica presided by H.L. Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo. The The Mass in D in honour of St George “Princeps Matryrum” (Joseph Vella, 1976) for soloists, choir a 4 voci dispari and orchestra are executed. Soloists Miriam Cauchi (soprano), Antonino Interisano (tenor) and Jaki Jurgec (baritone), and the Laudate Pueri Choir of the basilica take part. 11.00am: The San Ġorġ (Ħal Qormi) and Santa Margerita (Ta’ Sannat) Bands lead the popular band march at the heart of Victoria. 7.00pm: The La Stella Band of Victoria hails the appearance of the statue of St. George from the parish church’s doors with the religious hymn Georgius natus est (Can. Joe Mejlak – Prof. Joseph Vella). Following the La Stella Band performs the immortal hymn A San Giorgio Martire (Prof. Luigi Billion – Mro Giuseppe Giardini Vella), with the participation of tenor Antonino Interisano (Italy), baritone Jaki Jurgec (Slovenia) and the choir of the Philarmonic Society. 7.30pm: Pontifical procession along the main streets of the Victoria, led by the Bishop of Gozo. The La Stella band accompanies the procession with the performance of religious hymns. 8.00pm: Band march by the San Ġużepp Band (Għajnsielem), from St Francis’ Square to Independence Square, followed by a musical programme at the square by the same band, under the direction of Mro Sunny Galea. 8.15pm: Band march by the Mnarja (Nadur) Band, from St Francis’ Square to St George’s Square, followed by a musical programme at the square by

Pistachio-Crusted Salmon Fillets
Ingredients (Serves 4) 65g unsalted shelled pistachios 45g cup fresh breadcrumbs 2 Tbs. grated Parmesan 1/2 tsp. coarse salt; more to taste 1/8 tsp. finely ground black pepper; more to taste 2 Tbs. olive oil 4 Salmon fillets,( 170g each) 2 Tbs. Dijon mustard Method Heat the oven to 180째C. Line a baking try with foil and lightly grease the foil Chop the pistachios into medium-fine pieces. Combine the nuts, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and toss with a fork until the crumbs are evenly moistened. Spread the top of each fillet evenly with the mustard. Press the mustard-coated side of each fillet into the crumb mixture to generously coat the fish. Set the fillets, coating side up, on the prepared baking try. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the fillets to form a thick coating. Bake the fillets until the topping is crisp and browned and the fish is cooked through, 10 to 12 min., depending on thickness. Serve immediately

Insalata Caprese with Pesto Vinaigrette
Ingredients (Serves 4) 1/4 cup Pesto with Basil 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 3 vine-ripened tomatoes 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil (optional) Salt and ground black pepper (optional) Method Combine pesto, oil and vinegar in small bowl; set aside. Slice tomatoes and cheese into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Layer or stack tomatoes and cheese on a serving platter. Drizzle pesto dressing over top. Garnish with fresh basil and season with salt and pepper.

Red Wine Infused Apricot and Peach Crumble
Ingredients (10 Pancakes) 2 fresh apricots 1 fresh peach 4 tbsp red wine 50 gr sugar 1 ready made tartlet Crumble mix: 100g butter 100g flour 200g sugar Method Roughly cut the apricots and peach, place the fruit in a hot pan cook for few minutes. Add both the sugar and the red wine, leave to simmer for few minutes stirring frequently. When ready leave it a side. In a food mixer blend the sugar and butter together. Add the flour and blend for few seconds until the mixture starts to crumble and sandy texture. Fill the tartlet with the fruit mixture, top up with the crumb mix and place in hot oven around 180 degrees for around 20 to 25 minutes or until the crumb is golden brown. Leave to rest for few minutes before serving.
