Photography had always been one of those things I wanted to try my hand at, from a young age growing up with an artistic and creative mind-set it was another way I could capture what I saw through my own eyes... But like many other 'normal working folk' I stepped onto the conveyor belt of life early on and never really gave myself that chance to experience the things in life I wanted to learn, to find new skills or strive to reach the goals I had in my heart, but then early last year I finally gave myself that chance, after falling quite hard into depression I really needed a distraction and a purpose to leave my safe home and as such I have never looked back...

P

hotography has completely changed my life in more ways than one, and so far for the better. I would go as far as saying it’s saved me, it changed the way I see the world and everything around me. It’s given me that reason to get up in the morning and let me tell you, some are really early morning just to get to a location in time and get that perfect shot, for me these are the best time’s even if you capture that shot or not, either just before day breaks or last of the day’s light, not just for the obvious reasons but it’s the calmest most peaceful time of the day. Pure tranquillity. I wouldn’t yet categories myself as any particular photographer as I enjoy all aspects of this new art, trying to learn as much as I can and feeling my way around it slowly and experimenting and experiencing all I can. I’m self-taught to a degree, finding help from YouTube and Facebook groups. I like to learn at my own pace, having a full-time job in the marine industry is sometimes frustrating as I just want to be back behind the camera but new equipment doesn't pay for itself. As many professional or keen photographers like myself will know once photography is in your blood it kind of takes hold of your spirit. At the moment I’m really enjoying learning Astrophotography, It can be quite eerie at times being out all alone but there is nothing more satisfying than being under a blanket of stars. It’s funny after living in Dorset now for nearly 30 years I’ve seen more of our beautiful coastline and countryside in the past year than I have in all my previous years here, and there is so much more to explore. I’m excited about my next adventure wherever it might take me. Every moment has its opportunity, capture that moment and make it last forever.

CAITLIN ANGELL Breaking the mold. After a disappointing (but expected) A level results day, I decided that it was best to take a year out before making any big life changing decisions regarding which university I was going to throw a stupid amount of money at... The “emotional meltdown” subsided after deciding that grades don’t really matter all that much and that I should focus on my own health before freaking out about my future. This was definitely the right decision as I have had the time to reflect and recover and have now figured out that I would actually really like to spend 3 years at a university, which wouldn’t be a waste of money or time at all, in fact, I’m hoping it will be the exact opposite! I’m now looking forward to starting university in September, studying Illustration at Plymouth College of Art, and spending the time leading up to that saving up some money, and being as creative as possible. My creativity takes form in an interesting way. I have a very large range of styles and mediums that I use. Although this range means that I find it very hard to pin down 'one style' and to be instantly recognisable as something that looks ‘Caitlin-y’, it can come in handy. It means that I have a whole shelf full of ways to present an idea instead of just 3D, or watercolour, like some artists, may go for, why not try everything and anything! My portfolio is full of biro sketches of people and things, detailed pencil portraits, painted leather work and a tattooed baby (a plastic one of course), which meant that a stuck out like a sore thumb in the university interview room, but apparently at art college that’s a good thing! When it comes to inspiration, I try to look for the art and interested in everything I come across, which is very easy for me as I spend the majority of my time consuming as much media and art as possible, in films, TV, books and music, all very much encouraged by my creative family. My head’s swimming full of ideas at all times, which is very desirable to anyone creative, but this does mean that I’ve had to teach myself to actually finish projects after starting them. All through school and childhood I’ve been in the habit of starting one thing, coming up with another, entirely separate idea and starting that too, etc. I’ve finally managed to stop this from happening, using willpower, planning, and a load of nagging from my mum. I’ve become significantly more organised and I think (and hope) more skilled in what I create. My attention to detail is still a little over the top, but I can now create pieces quickly as well as precisely. I am currently working at Angola 76, a bar in my hometown; Shaftesbury, where I am painting some signs on the walls after it was discovered by my boss that I’m not too bad at that kind of stuff (along with cocktail making and pint-pulling of course), as well as assisting a glass artist in her home studio. I hope to one day take commissions of various sorts, but in the meantime, I’m enjoying creating whatever takes my fancy!

WET FEET? The Increasing Risk of Flooding.

Flooding is a growing risk for UK property. Aside from the physical damage and cost caused by floods they also bring stress, health risks, environmental damage and emotional turmoil. Even before any flooding event, if a property is now found to be at any risk of flooding in the future it has been becoming increasingly difficult in recent years to obtain suitable insurance, a mortgage or to even market and sell a property. There are many potential causes of flooding. Rising sea levels and increasingly frequent severe rainstorms mean that the risk of flooding is only going to increase with time. It is not possible to prevent all risks to all properties from flooding completely. The Environment Agency’s current aim is therefore to reduce any flood risks and to minimise the harm caused by flooding as far as is reasonably possible. Great care must be taken when choosing to buy or develop any property.

The Environment Agency now estimates that one in six homes in England is at risk from flooding. Whilst flooding from natural sources such as the sea is largely attributed to climate change, flooding from man-made drainage which is over-subscribed or poorly planned and maintained is becoming an ever more prominent risk. This was, of course, recently well documented by the 2014 floods on the Somerset levels which were largely caused by over subscribed drainage and watercourses and poorly maintained rivers coupled with extreme weather. These and other factors contribute to the flooding epidemic now faced by the UK as changes in land use, such as building houses on flood plains and paving over natural surfaces, are making people more vulnerable to flooding. Land use changes remain the primary reason behind the rising damage costs in the UK. It may not always be so obvious that a property is potentially at risk of flooding. You do not need to be close to a river, live by the sea or even on low lying ground to be exposed to a flood risk. Surface water, groundwater and overflowing sewers are increasingly common causes of flooding and can unfortunately occur anywhere. There is also groundwater flooding where the ground becomes too saturated to cope, flooding from failed drains and of course coastal and

river flooding from mass volumes of water. These are all factors that we at the Commercial Law Practice pay a special attention to when we act for you in your property purchase. In June 2013, the Government agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to develop a not-for-profit flood insurance scheme, known as Flood Re which came into force as of April last year. This recent development sees the Government-backed scheme ensure that household insurance, for private homes only at this stage, becomes affordable for those at an increased risk of flooding. It further incorporates the Government’s new action plan for the affected areas to help reduce flooding to below ‘significant’ levels within five years. It does this by levying an annual contribution upon all insurers to create a central fund. This fund then meets the additional costs of any flood claims and ultimately is intended to ensure that homeowners, whose properties are at a higher flood risk, can obtain affordable flood insurance with cover at a set price.

Are you at risk? The Environment Agency website allows the public to view information on flooding from rivers, the sea, surface water and reservoirs. There are also various maps available relating to the risk of flooding from ‘Rivers and Sea’, ‘Surface Water’ and ‘Reservoirs.’ Here at the Commercial Law Practice we check these factors automatically on behalf of our clients to ensure that we provide you with both the best quality information available as well an exemplary service. We can also obtain independent searches and reports regarding the risk of flooding faced by any individual property. You can have the utmost confidence that your interests will be protected when instructing us to act in your purchase or sale.

From a young age, I have enjoyed sitting and watching the landscape. One of my earliest childhood memories is drawing the fields beyond the fence at school, absorbing the peace from a distance while shutting out the noise from the classroom! The drawings weren’t very good but the memory of the fields have stayed with me. As I grew older, the drawings improved but to perfect them took time. One Christmas, as a teenager, I was given a Polaroid camera and soon realised that photography was a great way of capturing a moment in time and all the memories associated with it. I was hooked. After school, I went on to Art College where I studied all forms of Art, including Photography. I then went on to study photography a little more closely and in 1995 I completed a degree in Editorial Photography. The following year, I was asked to photograph my first wedding: an elderly couple who were remarrying. Though they were in their eighties, their love for each other shined through and after capturing some beautiful moments from their special day, I realised that I had a particular passion for Wedding Photography. I spent the next few years working with other photographers to gain more experience in the art of Wedding Photography and then in 2001, I launched my own Photography business. Apart from the weddings, I love having personal projects. At the moment I am doing two weekly photo missions. Firstly a ‘portrait a week’ and secondly a diary photo. It is a great way of getting out of the door and photographing new things and techniques. For the last couple of years I have been a member of the Guild of Photographers and through this, I have been awarded several awards in the open category which includes landscapes. Getting up early in the morning has always been easy for me but to see the start of the day is a complete joy. You can not beat it. With all of the horror and terror we see in the media, the cover-ups, the lies and the dishonesty, I have never once decided to allay my political stance into my magazine, and that is something that will always continue, the inspiring world we have in our hearts is clear to see in this world. I asked for you to send in your visions of what Summer and the last few Months mean to you, and this is the response, a beautiful, talented, rich and diverse collection of people who are enjoying the every day, taking from the place they live and feeding it in rich detail back to the friends and relatives, buyers, collectors, followers and readers.

This is our home, these are the images from our warm and vibrant readers, the people you pass on the streets, so the time for living is now, get out there, do those things that make you happy and remember this, that there are people who live in your street, drive your taxis, fix your teeth, kit out your yachts, mend your cars who all see the world in mystical and magic ways. This is Arkadia, this is Dorset, and this magazine is built for you, enjoy your Summer and please take one minute to raise a smile and say hello to somebody new today, enjoy the little moments and go out there with a sense of belonging each and every day.

CHARLESMAHER Born and raised in Birmingham Charles spent most of his working life as an Engineer in the automotive and aerospace industries. Having always an interest in art, it was not until 2000 that he found time to take up painting, in 2004 he completed a Diploma in Art and Design at UCE Bourneville Birmingham 2004 (now Birmingham City University www.bcu.ac.uk/ specialising in Fine Art Printmaking. Whilst in Birmingham he regularly exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, the Water Orton, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield art societies.

Local Landscape artist and Artwey member Charles T Maher will be holding his Degree Show exhibition: ‘Landscape and seclusion’ at: White Stones Cafe/Gallery Easton Street Easton Portland DT5 1BS from 6th Aug to 5th Nov 2017

Since moving to Weymouth in 2005 Charles paints mainly in oils acrylics and mixed media focusing his work on the Dorset’s Jurassic coastline and is a member of the following art groups and societies:

My work focuses on the secluded and historical places of Church Ope on the Isle of Portland and Sandsfoot Wyke Regis Weymouth featuring monochrome and colour landscape and abstract paintings in oils, acrylics and mixed media.

Weymouth Art Group, Bridport Art Society & Artwey CIC (a group of artists who combine to organize exhibitions and promote the arts around the South Dorset area. Charles now at the age of 70, is still studying art and currently in his final year of a BA (Hons) Painting degree with the Open College of Arts. www.oca.ac.uk/).

You can find out more about Charles and his work t:charlestmaherblog.wordpress.com/ www.artwey.co.uk/members/charles-t-maher/ or on Facebook.

I am very much influenced by the artistic visual language of the landscape; in the form of late Romanticism, Impressionism & post-Impressionism and the Neo-Romantics. I find myself particularly drawn to the mysterious quality of ancient ruins, of seclusion and secret places striving to evoke a sense of ‘time and place’ and particularly to old gnarled trees and ancient woodland - the heart and lungs of a landscape.

Also exhibiting: ceramicist Bill Crumbleholme who will be displaying replicas of prehistoric pottery.

For me Landscape painting is about invoking a sensory perception of being in a specific time and place; apprising and acting as a launching pad for artistic visual metaphors; recording the the paradox of evolutionary changing ecological climatic conditions, by combining influences of aesthetic romanticism and the abstract qualities of surrealism, gothic architecture and symbolism; rendering anonymity of place, imbued with a sense of secrecy and mystery. “My overarching interest lies in the depiction and interrogation of landscape through the medium of painting, derived in response to nature and the ecological, geological topographical and entropic transformations of landscape, striving to communicate a particular feature of light or atmospheric effect on the unchanging seclusion of little known secret places peculiar to Dorset, the isle of Portland and the eponymous Jurassic coastline”. Exhibition: Landscape and Seclusion Charles’ art is directed by combining influences of aesthetic romanticism, abstract qualities of surrealism, gothic architecture, symbolism, lyrical poeticism and speculative realism. His paintings can figurative, impressionist, expressionist, semi-abstract or abstract; the abstracts being mostly derived from an abandonment of subject matter in favour of a geometric line, shape, tone and colour in respect of geological form and spatial context, capturing arkadia just magazine the essence of topographical forms and atmospheric light.

Early in Mark’s career, he was lucky enough to exhibit and undertake commissions for pencil portraits in Harrods of London, soon after setting up his own commercial design studio. Whilst concentrating on design and print for numerous local and national businesses for most of his career, his love of drawing and sketching has always been his true passion. So after 30 years with a successful design studio, he is now concentrating on using his talents with graphite, charcoal and ink to produce highly detailed sketches, drawings and coloured illustrations. Although Mark is drawn to the Dorset countryside, the Purbecks, in particular, have produced many of his recent works, the demand for the ‘Hares’ collection’ has continued apace. Mark’s combination of mixed, monomedia produces a free and spontaneous style of Hare sketch, from the Mad Hatters and the pure crazy Hares to the natural grace and guile of the captured Hare. Each has their own quirky title giving their own unique appeal. Many of the graphite images are now available as coloured versions too, using a combination of pencil and coloured inks, many of these are individually hand painted making each a unique interpretation. All of Marks sketches and drawings are available in limited edition Giclee prints, limited to 100. Mounted and framed they make desirable gifts to adorn any wall. The Originals are also for sale where available. Oil painting has been another passion and whilst living and working abroad in the Cote d’Azur and Monaco, Mark had the opportunity to develop an abstract style which is still being evolved in more recent studies of the Purbecks. Popular Drink & Draw sessions at Purbeck Artisan Yard enable individuals to learn and become proficient in all forms of sketching and drawing. Day classes are available soon and private tuition also, enquire for details. This summer there is the opportunity for individuals and couples to spend a week in the beautiful Lot and Garonne regions of France drawing the local scenery on an all-inclusive holiday in luxury accommodation. Please contact Mark on 07977 555109 or email : crossfire911c2@googlemail.com Mark welcomes commissions for both Portraits, Pets and now becoming very popular, homes. The charm of rustic cottages, as well as contemporary abodes, lends both styles to the use of graphite and ink. Mark’s work can be seen at the Purbeck Artisan Yard in Wareham, Seasons Green in Corfe and at local Art and artisan shows around the county. Mark can be contacted on e-mail: crossfire911c2@ googlemail.com or 07977 555109 web: markpageartworks.com

Are you looking for fun and creative musicmaking sessions for your child? Coda Music Trust offers a range of classes for children aged from 18 months to 6 years. Classes are lively, varied and fun for children (and parents). Coda offer a structured but informal programme which incorporates Colourstrings and Kodály methods to nurture new skills from toddler to age 7, when students move to instrumental tuition of their choice. The classes are grouped into: Music Toddlers (18m – 3yrs), Music Tots (3-4 yrs), Music Minors (4-5 yrs) and Music Majors (5-6 yrs). These music-making sessions help to build creativity and communication skills, enhance collaboration and self esteem and build both mental and physical co-ordination skills. Classes are led by teachers with a wealth of experience in this very specialist area and all are held at the Coda Music Centre near Christchurch. The Kodály approach to music education is child-centred and taught in a logical, sequential manner. Colourstrings involves most of the senses, taking the children on a musical journey which explores the different musical concepts - rhythm, pitch, melody, dynamics, tempo, character, form and style - in an enjoyable and stimulating but structured way. Coda incorporates both concepts into classes to support learning - and with small group sizes and age specific groups, this offers the best introduction to enjoying and learning to play music. Coda’s Early Years classes run throughout the week at a cost of £6 per session with the first Taster Session free. Classes for various age groups run on the following days and times, but please check the website www.coda.org.uk or call Coda for details, as classes are regularly added and changed to suit demand. • MUSIC TODDLERS - 18 months to 3 years, Fridays at 9.30am • MUSIC TOTS - 3 to 4 years, Fridays at 2.15pm • MUSIC MINORS - 4 to 5 years, Mondays at 4.00pm • MUSIC MAJORS - 5 to 6 years, Mondays at 4.45pm

More power to you The renowned AMG performance brand marks its 50th anniversary this year. With a magnificent seven new models on the way to the dedicated AMG Centre at Mercedes-Benz of Poole, there is much for the discerning driver to celebrate as revealed by the Retailer’s team of AMG specialists – Andrew Elliott, Ryan Jones and Will Thomas. Q: Introduce yourselves. Andrew: I spent 20 years in the hotel and catering field and was General Manager at a local exclusive hotel before my interest in high-end cars brought me here in 2005. Ryan: I was Bar & Restaurant Manager at a gastro-pub in Canford Cliffs – an experience that ensured I was used to delivering the exceptional service our customers expect when I came here in 2014. Will: I have always lived in Christchurch, I’m passionate about sport and previously worked for another prestige marque before I moved to Mercedes-Benz two-and-a-half years ago. Q: What does your role entail? Andrew: As AMG specialists working in one of the UK’s largest AMG Centres, we aim to provide an unrivalled retail experience and expert knowledge across the whole model range whilst enthusing customers about the motorsport DNA and unique performance of every car with AMG badging. Q: Describe the AMG experience on offer. Ryan: We are blessed with a first-class facility arkadia magazine in which to demonstrate and present just how truly special an AMG is. Our dedicated

showroom area really indulges you in being part of the AMG experience as well as the quality and precision that goes into the product. Mercedes-Benz of Poole’s AMG specialists (left to right): Will Thomas, Ryan Jones and Andrew Elliott

Q: And the driving experience? Will: Exceptional. You cannot appreciate the sheer driving pleasure of an AMG until you have experienced one. In three words – exhilarating, mind-blowing, perfection. Q: What’s new from AMG? Will: The new and improved ‘43 range’ is enabling more drivers than ever before to savour AMG ownership and the power of a new, 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine together with fourwheel drive. It will be available across nearly all of our model ranges in the next few years. Q: What can we look forward to in 2017? Ryan: Every model released by AMG blows our expectations through the roof so, with seven new models planned, we’re expecting incredible things. I’m eagerly awaiting the new E 63 S Saloon, which will offer first-class comfort levels and will breeze from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds thanks to its formidable 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine. Andrew: AMG is launching its first Hyper

Mercedes-AMG GT S

car and we will be taking a few expectant customers to a preview, which will be extremely exciting for those considering this highly exclusive, F1 engine-based, road-going vehicle. Q: Jeremy Clarkson recently named the Mercedes-AMG GT S as one of his top 10 cars. Which is your favourite? Will: I can’t disagree with Jeremy. The 4.0-litre V8 is not only the F1 pace car but it’s a real head-turner too. Ryan: For me, it has to be the C 63 S Coupé with the new 4.0-litre bi-turbo engine under the bonnet propelling you from standstill to 60mph

C 63 S Coupé

in a mere 3.9 seconds in luxurious comfort. Paired up with the stunning brilliant blue metallic paint, it would certainly be my number one choice.

WORDS - DANNY NASH IMAGES -KRIS DUTSON

arkadia magazine

KARKADIA If like me, you are into your cars, then nothing in this world would make you happier than a garage full of pedigree racers, a brimming factory of fuel injected V8 monsters, a room of rare vintage vehicles, all treasured and refined and kept in racing form. So it is that I find myself invited and allowed to take a peek under the roof of this racing stable, and also under the hoods of a collection that only my meandering choice of words and the eye of an incredible photographer can capture, so here it is, from our main man Kris Dutson, a beautiful spectacle that only this car mad petrol head can truly put into words through his vision, his camera and his wonderful talent. I could spend an awful lot of time going into detail on every car, but the truth is if you know, you know, and if you don’t, it doesn’t matter as the beauty of these beasts speak chapters, the workshop itself is a quiet sedate chapel of automotive ascendance, I’m already like a kid in a candy shop as I enter this vessel of Vintage Vantage, thrilled to bits as I listen in to a conversation between the old experienced hand, and the new young and very eager intern, I have stumbled across a conversation on how to ‘refit’ the front registration plate on the red Aston Martin in the main images, this conversation felt more of a work of science and art all rolled into the square fraction of 2 screws and one fairing…

This eye to details shows why Wren Racing, and Steve Wren have created such a successful outfit, watching him remove his trainers as he carefully parks a client’s Maserati in the back shop, care, quality and passion for getting things right show just why this stable houses such thoroughbreds, from Hong Kong’s thriving businessmen to Somerset’s hauliers, this guy has friends in the best of places, and this then allows him to do the things in life he is absolutely passionate about, like racing… and racing a lot, and racing in cars built by him and his team of level headed grease gurus that have flocked to work in such a palace of pure unadulterated fun. And the perks are aplenty, from racing these cars at places such as Brands Hatch, Barcelona and many other amazing tracks and endurance racing that keeps Steve Wren on his toes. I was amazed to discover an Aston Martin DB2 ‘S4’ amongst the collection of racing cars in the back warehouse, a continuous race history on this car, an Alpine Cup winner (2 week rally) Steve having just raced for the owner at Le Mans, with the owner co-driving this amazing character of a car, used also for the daughter of this guy’s wedding, they kitted the car out for her, and even dressed her childhood teddy bear, that sits in the back seat in a tuxedo… that is going the extra mile… and fitted seat belts!!

There is a beautiful XK140 Jaguar sitting pride of place in the shop, I have never seen one up close and what a beast this is, introduced in late 1954 and sold as a 1955 model. The exterior changes that distinguished it from the XK120 included more substantial front and rear bumpers with over-riders, and flashing turn signals (operated by a switch on the dash) above the front bumper. The cars have been painstakingly modified, with electric windows, that are then operated by the old ‘winder sticks’ so push up, pull down on the original winders and the windows operate, stereos built into air vents, new cloth and leather interiors fitted with matching trim, hoods that look like the original materials, all done with the clients top end specs, and all finished by craftsmen in-house or farmed out to local craftsmen, alloy body builders, state of the art paint shops, all locally sourced and top end guys who are handing the craft down to interns, just how it used to be, cracking to see, and heart-warming to hear! I would keep going about the F40’s, the GT4 and other incredible vehicles here, but I think this can be saved for another time, and I have been invited to go to Silverstone to watch the guys do their thing, so watch this space for more incredible stories, history and pure racing adrenaline in future editions, what a privilege and what a lifestyle these guys have, I am thrilled to know this goes on in our beautiful county – till then, keep doing what you are doing guys, an amazing inspiring place to be. arkadia magazine

GET THE CONCEPT

An awe inspiring model from Renault... Having come across this car on a You-Tube clip, I was blown away by its beauty, I know it's not local, but I had to have it in the mag, this is the new Renault TreZor, a concept car that leaves me feeling warm inside... The guys at Renault have just picked up the award for the Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year at Italy’s prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Renault TreZor is an all-electric concept car which embodies the styling cues and technologies set to feature on upcoming Renault models The Jury of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, presented the award for the Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year to Laurens van den Acker, Groupe Renault’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Design, for the TreZor concept yesterday.First shown at Paris Motor Show last September, TreZor has previously won Concept Car of the Year at the International Automobile Festival in Paris and Concept Car of the Year at the Geneva Car Design Awards from a panel of top car designers. The prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este has been held since 1929 on the shores of Lake Como in Italy. The annual event attracts car enthusiasts and collectors who come from across the world to celebrate automobiles as precious and timeless works of art. To enter in the prototypes and concept cars category, TreZor had to meet a set of rigorous selection criteria as a working concept car with high-quality and original styling. TreZor ticked all the boxes. The concept car showcases the design cues of future Renault models and is powered by an all-electric motor derived from the world of Formula E with a maximum power of 260kW (350hp) and peak torque of 380Nm. Stéphane Janin, Renault’s Director of Concept Car Design, commented: “This award testifies to the fine judgment of great car collectors, who consider automobiles to be works of art. It recognises the work of our designers who were part of this fantastic project.”.

We have been so fortunate with the gathering of beautiful and like-minded souls that visit our events, back when we started ‘Harmony at the Larmer Tree’ our following has increased through Dorset, with folk hearing about this through the grapevine and this has helped us build a community of wonderfully relaxed vibes that help us create an atmosphere like no other, we experienced biblical storms, lightening and a

host of weather that made this such an incredible sensory experience, this is more a party of people who connect on a level of relaxation, with nothing to do but kick back, let the kids go off and enjoy the craft stalls, the face painting, the glitter and the solar cinemas, whilst mum and dad kick back with a gin cocktail, or a strawberry cider or two, all courtesy of our local and passionate traders. We aim to make this the most exclusive and enjoyable break away from the rat race that is possible, we have the same thoughts as you when it comes to commercial festivals, the costs we keep at camping prices, and we strive to throw as much fun at this party as possible, a chance to get away from it all without breaking the bank, and as such, we’ve been lucky enough to diversify the site away from the normal National Trust vibe and to create a magical moment in time that starts your festival year off to perfection.

The feedback has been so amazing on our Facebook sites (search #BadburyRingsRewind) and the biggest compliment is from the families that stopped going to festivals, and had the ‘fear’, but opted to try this cute little gathering and have found something that suits the more chilled out hippy that is hiding within mum and dad, no pressure to conform, no need to have to stay at the stage front, no cares whether you sit outside your tent and drink prosecco all night, just a chance to capture some amazing memories with your friends, family, neighbours and new friends along the way. I have reached an age where I don’t want to be surrounded by the ‘youth of today’, off their heads, I want to experience bubbles and laughter and smiley faced folk, amid scenery that suppresses all worries, takes you out of the normal stresses of daily grind and allows you to be you in a sensory atmosphere of creative souls, all putting on a show that gives you the chance to take away your own memories, your own slice of a communal party, and one where hopefully you leave feeling like you want to stay… this is my hopes, this is Arkadia Events. arkadia magazine

Naturism.

Is it something we should embrace? Having been asked to do a piece for a friends new naturist site in our forthcoming Autumn edition, I was very unsure of the outcome of such a feature, so I asked our followers on Facebook just what was the real attitude in Dorset to this natural camping world? As we all know, the world of unclothed and letting it all hang out is nothing new to our stunning coastline, Studland is famous for the sandy white strip of fully relaxed and uninhibited visitors, a place to which we hold close to our hearts, a part of our heritage with its sandy dunes and for its natural beauty, very middle-class coastal resorts, and of course National Trust beaches. But are we somewhat blind to the real goings on, do we look away with an air of disapproval, or are we fully embracing when it comes to this ‘beauty spot’? arkadia magazine

I thought it best (plus safest) to get the opinion of those that live in the area, and share just some of the thoughts from the masses of responses that this post generated – it would seem overall that this is more acceptable than I actually realised, here is a little insight into a broad spectrum of answers and responses we received – names have been left out to protect the readers!!! The question I raised was this - Just been to a new naturist site - piece in Arkadia - would love to hear your thoughts folks - comfortable naked in public? C Jane – Poole – Happy to be naked – not sure others want to see me naked though!!! S North – Poole - Worked on a nudist beach before so totally cool with it, these days I choose to keep covered up for everyone else’s sake hahaha but think it's totally fine to embrace your nakedness if that's how you prefer to stroll and it's not offending anyone ie nudist area. Where is said new area btw x M O’Donnell - Hang on, just let me count my scars and stretch marks and I'll get back to you H Whitehead – - YEEESSSSS!!!! K Jones - I'd probably scare everyone off. K Thomas - The initial beginning I'm sure everyone

C Mac Edwards - Yes Working as a lifeguard taught me the knowledge that we are all ok just as we are. Wobbly bit and all. Plus I hate my bikini tan lines! W Brown - Just about to... K E Irvine - Body paint!!!!!! C Gibbs - Maybe... Probably would, apart from bikini bottoms. Like the idea of being so free, but don't think I'd be confident enough to fully do it. Sounds like it will be an interesting article. Also, I think if it's a place where you can be naked or clothed it would be harder to actually be naked with clothed people around. You'd feel more vulnerable somehow. Rather than everyone having to go all out, you're all in the same boat and therefore it takes the vulnerable element away. I think anyway... A Victoria - Where? H James - Used to loathe my naked self - done some work and no longer do :) positive self-acceptance, my big bum AND flabby is such a fabby word! S Ryall - Do accordions count as clothing? V Aldous - Let it alllll hang out!!! J Warner - I'm open minded to it Danny, it's so important not judge people by their shape, size or age, beauty comes from within, it's such a shame not everyone can appreciate that. would be a little shy, letting go of clothes is like taking a mask off and being completely free. M Bowron - Comes a time that you stop trying to impress, then that’s the feeling of freedom , so yeah why not, if you don’t like it don’t look, if you do look , but mind you trying to keep a straight face with a twiddler could be difficult , ever come across a person you talk to and all the time there. J Bond ...and just as I wrote that a post came up on my timeline telling me today is World Naked Hiking Day J Raeburn - Yes - no problem with it. I went for a naturist swim recently (local pool) with a naturist friend - to see what it was like and how I'd feel - and it was relaxing and liberating. No one looked really - not obviously anyway - and it was interesting how quickly you 'forgot' about the fact that everyone was naked. I'll be going again :) N Clarke - Oh why the devil, not you only live once! T Jones - Definitely not I don't have the body for it. I don't feel comfortable wearing a bikini in my own garden. D Sumbler - I usually dress as a tree... S Sheldon - Definitely not comfortable naked in public lol. J Liz - Where? I need to get rid of my white lines .

A Kay - Let's do this Danny xx H Rhodes - If you fancy being free then why the hell not! Come on people we all have the same un-der our clothes, different shapes, sizes but be proud. Let it all hang out I say! K House - I could tell you a thing or two about my experiences...... C House - Please don't mum ... L Jane - I did the nudist beach at Sandbanks once but that was in my slim perky days, certainly not now lol

M R Heinrich - Hell yeah. N Whittenham - If everyone else will! D Payne - Been a carer for years you have to shower, toilet dress and apply creams to very personal areas. Seen all sorts. Not sure I would expose myself though wouldn't want to show anyone up lol. D Williams - Nude is not rude, naked is not faked, free is to beeee! Xx arkadia magazine

Running a small business had turned into a nightmare! It was the 1st of August 1989 BBX UK CEO John Attridge was a young 32 year old standing outside his car rental business on Australia’s Gold Coast basking in the glorious sunshine, smug in the fact that the preceding year was so busy that as fast as the cars came in from rent they went out again! This was truly what owning a small business was all about – freedom, lifestyle, independence – all smooth sailing! Other than being the celebration of all horses birthdays in the southern hemisphere, this was to be an uneventful year in Australia. Until disaster struck in the form of an Australia wide pilots dispute that crippled the entire tourist industry – 1989 Australian pilots’ dispute. The car rental business took a downward spiral as there were now more cars parked in the lot than being rented out.

Running a small business had turned into a nightmare!

It was during this time a smartly dressed young man named Chris Couper walked into the showroom and asked John “How much income do you get if you do not rent those cars today?” (Pointing to the full lot).

Realising the obvious answer was zero John was ready to kick Chris to the curb for being a smart arse but thought better of it and was intrigued to hear where the salesman was going with this flippant question. Chris explained the concept of spare capacity and if not captured now it would be wasted forever. The solution he offered John was a business community of like minded individuals who trade amongst each other as a preferred supplier community. And so begun John’s passion for helping businesses utilise their spare capacity. Decades later after founding and selling his own platform in Australia, consulting on various economic topics around the world John used his experience, knowledge and passion to form an expert team and launch BBX in the UK. BBX UK is part of the global operation BBX International. By joining forces with the worlds largest platform, BBX clients in the UK have direct access to tens of thousands of new customers in thirteen different countries.

Introducing Bentley’s First Ever Diesel Bentayga Diesel.

We are thrilled to introduce to you Bentley’s first ever diesel model – the bold and adventurous Bentley Bentayga Diesel. Passionate Bentley engineers have created a V8 diesel engine to completely reinvent how people think of diesel vehicles. Its performance characteristics are distinctly Bentley and like nothing seen before. The 4.0 litre, 8-cylinder diesel engine boasts clean technology and engineering innovation to deliver effortless grace round every turn. The engine is triple-charged, which means it offers quicker and more dynamic responses than conventional turbochargers. As well as an exceptional new engine, the Bentayga Diesel features a seven-seat option, meaning there’s outstanding space available for every passenger. With four, five and seven seat configurations available in one sumptuous interior, you’ll always reach your destination in true comfort and style. To find out more about this exciting new model, please do not hesitate to contact us at Bentley Hampshire. Bentley Hampshire.
