From the Executive Director
“Awareness Creates Pride” We’re pleased to present the Arkansas Alumni Association’s 2012 Annual Report. In the past, we have provided this information within the pages of our quarterly alumni magazine, Arkansas. This year, we’re distributing this separate publication to campus stakeholders and ALL alumni. It highlights our successes by using numerical measures that demonstrate the Association’s continuing dedication to connecting, engaging and informing our many constituents. John Reap, the President of the Arkansas Alumni Association, regularly uses three words that highlight a major focus for the staff and alumni board of directors -“Awareness Creates Pride.” These words speak directly to the importance of building awareness of and pride for all we do as an association, but it also expresses the need to share pride in the accomplishments of the students, faculty and staff of the University. There is so much to be proud of, and we want all alumni and friends to fully understand the implications these achievements have on the equity of their degree, and the reputation of their University. But this document is all about your Alumni Association. As you flip through these pages, you’ll learn more about the comprehensive and diverse programming we produce, the impact our scholarship efforts have on students today, the ways we communicate with alumni and friends, the volunteer recognition and training we provide, and the importance of the support we receive through your membership. We know you’ll be impressed by the numbers, and enjoy the photos of the Arkansas family we are so proud to serve. If you believe, as we do, that “Awareness Creates Pride,” we believe that what follows will make you proud of your Alumni Association and your alma mater! With Pride in Arkansas,
Graham G. Stewart Associate Vice Chancellor Executive Director of the Arkansas Alumni Association 3

A Time for Transition
24 years ~ 145% growth
1988-2012
A Time for Transition After 24 years of service to the Arkansas Alumni Association, former executive director, Mike Macechko, retired in June 2012. During his tenure, Mike’s many accomplishments included launching the Hog Tag affinity program, which has helped to fund the Association’s “Road” Scholarships; overseeing a $3.4 million campaign to renovate and expand the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House; aiding in the creation of the Black Alumni Society; and increasing the Association’s membership efforts from 11,000 in 1988 to 27,000 members in 2012.
The Arkansas Alumni Association welcomed its new executive director, Graham Stewart, who brings alumni leadership experience from four institutions. Eager to take the Association to the next level, Graham’s knowledge of alumni relations will no doubt lead the AAA to a bright and successful future.
