2017 Faculty Award of Excellence
TEACHING Professor Tracy L. Cole earned her J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law in 2003. She practiced law with a commercial law firm for a year and then worked for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas for two years before joining the faculty at Arkansas Tech as Assistant Professor of Legal Studies in 2007. Professor Cole has developed and taught business law and business ethics courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and she recently developed a course for the eTech program. While Professor Cole enjoys and encourages a variety of classroom activities, she passionately believes that students should engage with our community and learn outside of the classroom as well. She routinely hosts Arkansas state officials on campus to speak to students, such as the Prosecuting Attorney for the 5th Judicial District, the Deputy Commissioner of the Arkansas Insurance Department, an Administrative Law Judge for the Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission, and the Special Investigator for the Arkansas Attorney General. Professor Cole serves as faculty advisor to the ATU Enactus student organization, helping them to organize entrepreneurial and service activities both on and off campus, such as professional development workshops, canned food drives, e-waste recycling, and empowerment programs for foster children and the River Valley Shelter for Battered Women and Children. In 2011, Professor Cole led a group of students on a business education trip to China, and she has organized a study abroad trip to Costa Rica this year. Professor Cole received the College of Business Excellence Award in Teaching in both 2010 and 2016, and she was promoted to Associate Professor of Legal Studies in 2013. However, one of her favorite honors is an autographed book by author John Grisham with a hand-written note from Grisham thanking Professor Cole for her contributions to the minds of students. This cherished gift came from a student who told Grisham how much he loved learning about the law in Professor Cole’s class.

2017 Faculty Award of Excellence
TEACHING Deborah McClure received her A.A.S. from Arkansas Tech-Ozark in 2009 and began teaching at Arkansas Tech-Ozark Campus in 2007 as Cosmetology Instructor with over 25 years’ experience. Deborah became Cosmetology Program Chair in January 2016 and resigned in December 2017. She taught a variety of Cosmetology courses at Arkansas Tech-Ozark including Salon Business Operations. She worked hard to give her students the skills they needed to be successful as Cosmetologists and /or business owners. She always kept abreast of current standards and trends to provide her students with the most up-to-date methods. In addition, her students regularly participated in Skills USA competitions on the State and National level and they brought home awards every year. Deborah brought a spirit of excellence and giving as she taught and lead.
