My design background focuses on large buildings and master planning. I am very interested in large scale developments and mixed use planning concepts for the development of better cities and architectural space. My experience living in many places in the world helps me draw my experiences into architecture that I produce. I specialize in the analysis and production of buildings using 3d digital models. I have a passion for modeling and can help manage information at both a urban scale down to architectural details. I also have worked on many publications and promotional materials for architecture offices. I excel and enjoy doing graphic design and writing for architecture and have helped translate and publish monographs for Architects like Fernando Menis as well as international architecture companies like Aedas. I am an architecture professional interested in design and the practice of international architecture that has built an international portfolio of work with experience in both the European and Asian markets. I believe architects have the privilege to work internationally and I enjoy working and learning from people with different cultural backgrounds. I believe working internationally not only helps build relationships that are vital to creating strong businesses, but also helps an individual grow and excel at what they do as this depends on an individuals flexibility, adaptability, and their ability to think independently.

FENTON | Heins Colombia Development Hospitality Interiors Conference Center; Amenity, Lobby and Leasing Early 2020 I worked with INK & ORO, our Interiors department to help develop interior design pricing sets and design intent drawings. My role was primarily to review and document interior details and help produce the drawings and details required to execute the design intent. The project consisted of finishing out the amenity areas, the leasing lobby and library as well as a open to public rest area which connects to a public trail. Our work was done completely in BIM software and all interior millwork and finishing elements were modeled to produce the documentation.

Virgin Hotels Dallas Design District Hospitality Interiors Conference Center; Pool & Dining; Hotel Chambers & Presidentail Suite The Virgin Hotels project was a very unique challenge, a 78 million dollar art hotel project designed to be the signature destination of Design District in Dallas. From planning to final completion; this project was my primary focus at 5G Collaborative Studio. As the architect of record for the project, the project required the management and collaboration of multiple interior designers, brand managers, systems engineers and art and lighting specialists. I worked on the preliminary planning phases, the production of construction documents, as well as administered construction. This involved the management and issuance of multiple addenda for the hotel program. Our project was completed in late 2019 about three years later. Our project is a huge success and is a great example of a “art” hotel – creating many unique picturesque moments and offering a unique heighted sense of design.

The Drakestone | Historic Davis Building Residential Interiors Conference Center; Pool & Amenity, Room Renovation; Lobby and Leasing The Drakestone was an incredibly unique and rewarding opportunity. The project consisted of renovating the entire building, updating all units to have a modern style kitchen and updating bathrooms with contemporary finishes. The retrofit also included the restoration of historic elements, like the cupola and the roof gardens at the building’s rooftop. The building consists of layers and layers of history, our project brought a fresh new image to one of the icons of Historic Main Street Dallas. My focus was primarily on the construction administration phase, reviewing the work of the various contractors and coming up with strategies to resolve issues with construction. The project is incredibly complex, and presented numerous challenges, it is quite the honor to been a part of its history.

AC Hotel | Dallas by the Galleria Hospitality Interiors & Architecture Conference Center; Pool & Amenity, Room Renovation; Lobby and Leasing The AC Hotel was one of our most important projects when I started at 5G. I was on the team that produced the final construction drawings for the building. This project was unique because we were contracted to do both the interiors and exterior of the building. I coordinated the accessibility review, and verified and corrected the final drawing set to comply with Texas Accessibility Standards. This project set the tone for our work for the next few years, and won many design awards.

Modera Hall Street Residential Architecture Modera Hall Street is only part of the many residential projects that we developed at JHP in 2016 for the Old East Dallas Neighborhood. The new developments have ushered in a rise of all sorts of new residential and commercial projects in the area. Moders units were compact; efficient and appealed to young couples starting out in Downtown Dallas. I developed the project from preliminary planning though construction documents.

Guiyang Xing Yun Commercial Mixed-Use Development Guiyang Xing Yun is a unique development for the city of Guiyang located in Guiyang Province China. The tower will be one of the tallest towers in the region housing offices, a five star hotel and a conference center. Our design for the exterior was inspired by the metalwork of local Miao artists who craft ornate headdresses for cultural ceremonies that are unique to the area. Our modular façade will be made from silver metal and sweep the hillside creating a ribbon like effect. The building’s east and west plazas are created as signature spaces with iconic architecture. They will be where high end retail tenants and digital advertizing will be most visible and create an active environment for retail space. The podium is designed in a very conventional and functional manner where large tenants and supermarkets are located at B1 level. Anchor brands are designed to be placed in the most visible and easy to access locations and a cinema and children’s center are located at the highest floors.

Guangzho PASO - Core and Shell Commercial Retail Development Guanzhou PASO is characterized by its unique faรงade system which makes its faรงade appear soft and curvilinear in appearance. This was achieved though the development of a metal rain screen faรงade where in many areas were custom details were required. Our client was drawn to earth colors and wanted to create a building that would contrast with the typical grayness of Chinese cities, so we chose a pallet inspired by the colors of terracotta and created subtle differences in the material to make the faรงade more interesting. Our concept for the buildings outdoor plazas were to create a spiraling upward effect to maximize the retail efficiency of the space. The project was broken town into two phases. The first phase of construction consists of an office tower and a residential tower with a podium containing a clubhouse and cinema. The second phase will be a large retail atrium and with high end restaurants and a ice skating rink as well as feature a large media screen which will be a iconic urban element.

Guangzho PASO - Interior Commercial Retail Interiors Our client challenged us with the project budget to create a luxury shopping center with materials and specifications that would be easy to produce and build efficiently in China. Our solution was to create bulkheads which would create a dynamic color changing effect as the pattern developed each level. Unique custom elements were also required including two skylights, two custom lighting features and a sculptural outdoor plaza. Our materials pallet was purposefully very neutral to contrast with the bold color decisions we had made with our bulkheads. We wanted our bulkheads to be vibrant and memorable and not be overpowered by any other elements in the shopping center.

Anji North Road Masterplan Mixed-Use Development Anji North Road was developed as a revision to an existing master plan where our client needed to carefully cost and propose a more conservative, yet elegant design for development. We proposed to create a building faรงade that would feature a lattice of metal members designed to be an optional green wall. Super bright LED lights would accent the intersections of the metal lattice and make a layered paper lantern effect. The buildings podium was designed to incorporate gardens and public elements to create a weaving and intermingling of people between the hotel and retail areas. The plans were inspired by Chinese embroidery where geometric elements play an important role in creating dynamic movement and elegant non-repeating patterns.

Beijing Renissance Wangfujing Hotel Hospitality Interiors The Beijing Rennisance was a wonderfully executed project done by our team in VOA Beijing. The Wangfujing Hotel was a redesign of an existing hotel where the façade was done quite well, but the interiors were not up to the operator’s standards. Our design approach was to create something that was uniquely Chinese and yet sensible and modern. Our team was a mix of architects and interior designers whom would work back and forth creating spaces that were both architecturally sensitive as well as being exquisitely detailed with expensive materials and finishes. Our designs for each space were carefully considered each room had a unique concept narrative which guided our design process. Materials and colors were selected to reflect traditional Chinese architecture and at the same time reinterpret them into something that would be modern, comfortable and memorable.

Large Scale Planing and Architectural Design Concept for Kepple Land International, a major Singaporean developer known for their Project “Reflections” designed by Architect Daniel Libeskind. The project designed for the Chongquing urban riverfront consists of a proposal of 12 unique and different super-rise, high-rise, and mid-rise luxury apartment condos as well as a major shopping mall spanning about 3 city blocks. The architectural concept was derived from looking at traditional architecture of the region and how the architectural language has developed, especially in relationship with the landscape. The deep hillsides and steep changes in height played a huge factor in the development of our project. Retail “strips” wind about the landscape and offer narrow sheltered streets reminiscent of traditional Chinese architecture.

A large scale concept design competition for the city of Guangzho, China. Project features an urban fabric that introduces riverfront park properties into the major cores of the new expansions of their growing central business district. Architectural concepts were also suggested to create a focal point and central architectural gesture for the later expansions of the district. Architctural “center” was developed though sketching. Shown on the left the major urban gesture of a river penetrating into the districts core highlights the tallest towers and commercial elements. Branding the idea into a graphic and creating a clear “image” for the projects concept played a key role in expressing the projects concept. Seen on the latter renderings the introduction of park space, and canals reflects ancient Chinese river cities and their dependence on the river to create social space.

Masterplan proposal developed for the City of Xian. Large scale development consisting of about 12 city blocks of residential, commercial and office programs. Concept featured a centrally located cultural district and and major urban green space that would act as a cultural park to unify Xian’s emergent CBD. Planning decisions reflected a sober and conservative approach creating parcels of urban area each with a slightly different architectural identity as well as providing different activities and living densities. The Central Park proposal creates a large public space that will directly connect and serve the new urban fabric that lies south of the cities major toll road. The proposal compliments and connects to the city of Xian’s EXPO center and TV Tower Museums.

Architects Monograph: MENIS Published Work

Working with Archilife Publishers (known for their publication of “Yes is More by Bjork Ingles) Menis Arquitectos published their monograph of work iterating their goals of creating telluric architecture. The book features projects that play with materiality of the built environment and explain how Fernando Menis has created a style of architecture that relates to his birthplace of the Canary Islands. work completed at Menis Arquitectos in Valencia, Spain. under the direction of Fernando Menis and Simona Rota with Victor Lledo Published and produced by Archilife

Design Contest Entry for Anglo American’s competition to redesign their existing campus in Johannesburg South Africa. The project was a large scale redevelopment project proposing to connect 5 office buildings owned by Anglo American. The concept revolves around terrain and the movement of land. Fountains at the garden level extend downward into the basements where copper fins express the mining caverns of African mineral deposits and the countries mineral wealth. A large underground atrium filled with trees and light acts as a centralized branding and meeting space unifying the once separate parts of the enterprise.

The Jordanek Concert Hall was one of Fernando Menis’ major proposals created by his soleowned design company Menis Arquitectos. A major portion of our work went toward design development of the auditorium space, designed to be made from stone panels textured with hammering techniques. Each panel would have a totally unique shape and placement within the space which required very rigorous detail analysis and sectional development of the space. The office is particularly unique as modeling plays a major part of the development of architectural ideas. Models done first by hand using stone, concrete, and earthy materials to derive a texture and natural form from that object which highlight later architectural ideas developed by computer modeling and analysis techniques.
