F
or those keeping score at home, the first Major League Baseball All-Star Game was played on July 6, 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. At least, that’s what the Baseball Almanac says, and if you can’t trust the Baseball Almanac ... OK, you can trust it. It’s not quite as treasured as the original baseball book – where in the big inning, Eve stole first, Adam stole second, and they were both thrown out at home – but it knows the score, so to speak, on the history of The Great Game. Here’s some more All Star trivia, from the same source: All-Star teams were originally selected by the managers and the fans for the 1933 and 1934 games. From 1935 through 1946, managers selected the entire team for each league. From 1947 to 1957, fans chose the team’s starters and the manager chose the pitchers and the remaining players. From 1958 through 1969, managers, players, and coaches made the All-Star Team selections. In 1970, the vote again returned to the fans for the selection of the starters for each team and remains there today. Had MLB (that’s short for Major League Baseball) consulted the brain trust at this magazine, it would have discovered the wisdom Editor Yale Youngblood in fan selection from the get-go. That’s what we did three years ago, when we introduced what is now our most popular staple – and decided to name the winners of our “fan” poll Arlington Area All-Stars. In the inaugural ballot, some 30 area providers of products and services were recognized by our readers as the best – or, at least, favorite – at doing what they do. And each was awarded one of those “well done” plaques that they proudly display at their businesses and practices. This year, we probably should have added a category for plaque makers, because someone is going to be super busy – and super successful – in the next few weeks, cranking out nearly 200 of the awards, which will be presented to winners and runners-up in some 90 categories. Just as we’ve grown over the past three years, so, too, has the amount of mail in our various virtual “suggestion boxes,” much of it devoted to nudging us toward adding another service or product field to pay homage to the leaders who weren’t given a chance to be All Stars during the past two Augusts. So ... Like the leaders of Major League Baseball (that’s long for MLB), we listened to the fans. And we decided to “spread the love” to a host of new favorites, while still giving the old favorites a chance to be favorites once more. Spoiler alert, though: There are a few changes atop the leaderboard in some of the categories this year, as you’ll discover in the section that begins on page 34. And there were more voters than we could have imagined, when we came up with the All Star idea during the magazine’s genesis. For those still keeping score at home, we call that a home run.

Success, accidentally Six Flags Over Texas wasn’t supposed to last five years, let alone 55 • By Kenneth Perkins
S
ay Happy Birthday to Six Flags Over Texas. She’s 55. Doesn’t look half bad for her age. At this point you’d expect some weariness, some detachment, some fatigue – a sense of monotony, even. Not Six Flags. Not on Steve Martindale’s watch. As president, he’s picked up the mantra of those before him. One generation goes. Another comes. He enjoys talking with park goers just to hear what they like about this place. What they don’t like. What they would change. Keep. Six Flags Over Texas has Most seem to like the historievolved dramatically over five-plus decades. One cal connection to Texas. constant is the fact that Makes sense. Six Flags itself is people still love to visit. now the historical institution within itself, which is surprising to those who know that its tenure was suppose to be short. It was, in some ways, Texas’ answer to Disneyland, if you believe the story about founder Angus G. Wynne, Jr. visiting Disney in California and wanting to Texas-fy a version for these parts. Wynne and Arlington Mayor Tom Vandergriff actually came up with the idea as a means to help pay for Wynne’s Great Southwest Industrial District infrastructure and projects. Yeah, Six Flags was a means to another end. Plans were developed in 1959, with construction beginning in August 1960 and opening approximately a year later. The price tag: $10 million. It was an overnight sensation, so to speak, and the success shocked both Vandergriff and Wynne. For its “soft” grand opening, 8,374 visitors attended, wowed by things they had not seen before. Well over a half million people would come through the Six Flags gates that first season, and not just packs of locals. Word spread rapidly, and the park could list at least one visitor from each of the 50 states. Within a decade, the park had entertained 17.5 million visitors. In many ways, Six Flags pioneered the “pay one price” model (as anyone who has been to Disney knows that once in, you still have to fork over lots of dollars), a single admission price paying for the rides and whatever the attractions were at the time. Less than $3 got you into the park with parking priced at .50 cents. As for its short-term goals, well, that changed. Attendance kept 26

shattering previous records, and, before long, Six Flags had the distinctive smell of a permanent fixture. It helped that Wynne reportedly recouped his personal investment of $3.5 million within the first 18 months. Park goers love its attractions (it was the first park to feature log flume and mine train rides and later, the first 360-degree looping roller coaster, modern parachute drop and man-made river rapids ride). Likewise, the concept won hearts. The six flags originated to represent the six nations that have governed Texas during its history, including Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, and the Confederate States of America. Wynne would expand the concept with Six Flags Over Georgia and later sold the park to Six Flags Over Texas Fund Ltd., a limited partnership with Jack Knox. Other owners followed. Time Warner was one (bringing in a new era and the licensing of Warner Brothers and DC Photo: enwikipedia.org Comics characters such as Mr. Freeze and Batman the Ride), and Premier Parks is the other. That entity purchased the park in 1998 for $1.86 billon. Now under Six Flags Entertainment Corp, the park has improved in attendance and profitability. What hasn’t changed? Innovation. Creativity. Wisdom in keeping a family park for families. Just last year they expanded the Gotham City section of the park with new rides Catwoman Whip and The Riddler Revenge. Thousands attend each day. Not bad for a park that wasn’t even expected to last.

nternationally renowned journalists, a television venture capitalist, and a CNN political commentator headline The University of Texas at Arlington’s 2016-17 Maverick Speakers Series. Now in its ninth season, the Maverick Speakers Series features thought-provoking conversations led by diverse voices for the university community. This year’s slate of speakers begins with best-selling author and host of his own show on the Oprah Winfrey Network Reza Aslan on September 13. The religious scholar’s most recent book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, has been translated into dozens of languages around the world. Authors and New York Times journalists Nicolas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn will follow Aslan on Oct. 6. The duo was the first married couple to win a Pulitzer Prize for journalism, which they received in 1990 for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square democracy movement. Other speakers include Kevin O’Leary (aka “Mr. Wonderful”) of ABC’s
Shark Tank, CNN political commentator Fareed Zakaria, and Alexandra Cousteau, environmental advocate and granddaughter of famed ocean explorer/filmmaker Jacques Cousteau. Tickets to Maverick Speakers Series events are $5 for the general public (UTA students, faculty, and staff get in free). Preferred tickets are available for $35 and include reserved seating near the front of the venue, reserved parking (one permit per purchase), and front-of-the-line access to book signings. A third option is V.I.P. tickets, which offer preferred ticket access, a parking pass, and an exclusive reception, seated dinner, photograph, and autograph with the featured speaker, based on speaker availability. V.I.P. tickets are $500 per person. All lectures begin at 7:30 p.m., either in College Park Center (601 Spaniolo Drive) or at Texas Hall (701 W. Nedderman Drive). ADVENTURES at the National Corvette Museum For fans of the classic vehicle, a trip to Bowling Green, Ky., provides a treat • By Richard Greene
Here are three exhibits at the museum.

rlington and Bowling Green, Ky., have something in common. After General Motors came to both towns, everything changed. Interestingly, at about the same time that the first Corvette rolled off the assembly line in 1953, a Pontiac Chieftain was being built to become the first vehicle produced out of the new GM plant in Arlington. Uncertain of the potential of a two-seater sports car, the big car company built only 300 of the Vettes that year as an experiment from the back of the company’s customer delivery garage in Flint, Mich. – all of them white with red interiors. Then, recognizing the potential after enthusiastic response from customers, GM moved production to its plant in St. Louis, where it remained until 1981. That’s the year the Bowling Green plant opened, and its host city gained national recognition as the only place in the country where the iconic “Great American Sports Car” is built. In 1994, the National Corvette Museum made its debut just across the highway from the plant and now welcomes more than a quarter million visitors every year. Last month, I got to spend a couple of days there pretending to be part of my son’s film crew that is doing a television series about the world’s premier car museums. For Corvette enthusiasts, there’s no other place like it. Everyone you see there is full of excitement to be spending the day among the collection of amazing Vettes that more than fulfill expectations. But none of the visitors are more thrilled than the ones who show up every day to take delivery of their awesome new sports car from factory experts.
The National Corvette Museum’s Marketing and Communications Manager Katie Frassinelli welcomes viewers of an upcoming television series featuring the world’s finest automobile museums. Here is where Corvette buyers who have opted to pick up their new vehicle at the museum spend part of their day with GM’s team of specialists demonstrating all the amazing features of the awesome sports car.
Arrangements to do that are made through local dealers, and a number of Arlington Corvette owners have reported the experience is well worth the extra charge associated with the privilege. These patient delivery specialists will spend as many hours as you like explaining every detail about the vehicle that has produced its singular reputation among all the automobiles in the world. When the presentation is finished, proud new owners drive off in a celebration that features visitors and museum staff standing and applauding as the new Corvette owners exit the gallery concourse and head for the open road. FOR OTHER visitors, their most immediate destination is the place in the museum where catastrophe occurred. It’s called the Cave In Exhibit because that’s what happened on Feb. 12, 2014 when a 30-foot sinkhole collapsed inside the Skydome of the museum and swallowed eight of the museum’s more important vehicles. On the two-year anniversary of the event, the new exhibit was opened to explore what happened – and what made international headlines.
“Some tears were shed,” is how Museum Executive Director Wendell Strode described the news of the Corvettes falling victim to the sinkhole. The exhibit provides photos, videos and facts on each of the cars, as well as an interactive “before” model of each car. Two of the Corvettes were restored; the other six were beyond repair and have been put back on display precisely where they stood on the day of the calamity. VIEWING THE mangled casualties “up close and personal” results in a very predictable look on the faces of visitors – wide eyes, open mouths, and words of utter incredulity. Then, it’s on to the other exhibits. Turn around and you see the array of the cars built for the track and driven in the Indy Racing League. No Corvette museum Around the corner you will find could be complete without anniversary and special edition Cora depiction of the car’s impressive engine. vettes. Coming up in the fall is the gone – but not forgotten – GM models of vehicles that were produced for a limited time, and that are no longer manufactured. Throughout the facility visitors are introduced to the evolution of all seven generations of the Corvette in settings true to the time period each helped to define. >>>

On Feb. 12, 2014, a 30-foot sinkhole collapsed inside the Skydome of the museum and swallowed eight of the facility’s more important vehicles. Today, the museum commemorates that event with The Cave In Exhibit, which shows the devastation caused by the catastrophe.
Displays include life-size figures of designers, modelers and assembly line workers pursuing a labor of love in their roles as specialists producing not only the famous car but also part of the country’s history in fulfilling the “American Love Affair” with the automobile. The museum staff can also arrange a tour of the Bowling Green Plant, where visitors can watch the skills of human auto workers and their robotic counterparts as they team to build the world’s longest-running, continuously produced passenger car. But, please note this: You need to plan ahead, as the tours are based on availability and sell out quickly. A visit to the museum’s web site, corvettemuseum.org, will help you find all the details.

Will YOUR RETIREMENT Be the One You Always Wanted? Start having the “Critical Conversations” now
H
ere’s a regular occurrence in Private Wealth Advisor Derrick Kinney’s office: Picture the scene – A couple walks into Derrick’s office, excited to discuss their upcoming retirement. They begin to talk and paint the picture of the retirement they imagined. As the conversation continues, one spouse’s face turns from excitement to fear. Derrick pauses and asks her, “What’s wrong?” And she replies with a concerned look on her face, “Oh my goodness, he’s going to be home all the time!” And that’s where it begins – the unrealistic expectations of what retirement is all about. As Derrick Kinney and his team visit with clients throughout the D/FW Metroplex, and specialize in retirement income planning, here are the most critical conversations they have found will help their clients be prepared for the retirement they’ve always wanted: 1. How do we keep from running out of money in retirement? The fear of running out of money can completely paralyze partners from taking the time to create a savings plan. Living on a practice budget can help you determine how much money you need to save for retirement. 2. How will I find significance in retirement? As an executive or business owner, you may really enjoy your job. Leaving it in retirement may have you wondering who you will be without a formal job title and responsibilities. We often tell our clients that it’s important to retire to something, not just from something. 3. How do we provide for aging parents and kids that come back home without going broke? You’ve just finished putting your kids through college and now it’s your time together – alone! But now the kids come back home. Or you’ve retired and you’re
Derrick Kinney with Janice Ritchie and Kitty Waldrop
about to start seeing the world – on your schedule. But not so fast, now mom or dad needs your help caring for them. Whether you’re thinking about retirement or you’re already there, it’s not too late to have these critical conversations. You only get one retirement. Make sure it’s the one you’ve always wanted. If you value a consultative approach to managing your wealth and planning your retirement, call to ask about our complimentary Second Opinion Service. A second opinion can be very valuable, even if our firm is not a good fit for you at this time. Derrick Kinney and Associates can be reached at 817-419-6001 or online at www.DerrickKinney.com.

Its concept in South Arlington continues to evolve with recent remodels in both the bar and main dining rooms, yet one constant is the quality of the food that inspires patrons to return for more – and to vote for Rio Mambo as their favorite place for Mexican/Tex-Mex food. “Recipes are important, and while there are a vast number of translations to basic Tex-Mex, ultimately the real secret lies in the ingredients,” says owner Brent Johnson. “Our commitment to quality meats and produce, aged cheese and fresh herbs and spices will provide you with the difference we call ‘Chef Mex.’” Of course, Rio Mambo is more than just great Tex-Mex (or “Chef Mex”) food. The addition of Salsa Nights on Saturday – complete with complimentary dance lessons led by Amanda Brown and the sounds of DJ Jesse Ritmo – and live music has turned this location into an Arlington hot spot. Indeed, Rio Mambo is not just a restaurant, but a dining experience.

Fresh selections such as Sea Bass, Redfish, and Mahi Mahi are part of the menu, along with other new gulf coast favorites such as trout almandine, sautéed garlic shrimp, seafood pasta dishes, and new salads. “When you have a good team cooking and serving,” Alan Petsche says, “get their input on what they think will work, and you wind up with not only great food, but also a recipe for success.”

Italian

Winner: Cafe Sicilia
Winner: Dino’s Subs
RESTAURATEURS Joe Seyedmorteza and Fernando Nogueira are experienced operators with two very family oriented concepts – Café Sicilia and Pancho’s Mexican Buffet – that include eight restaurants throughout the Metroplex. “Café Sicilia is exactly what we set out to accomplish – a relaxing environment where HOMEMADE Italian dishes are prepared to order, from our hand-tossed pizzas to our favorites like Chicken Rolattini or Seafood Genovese,” says Seyedmorteza. “It’s a place where ‘the noise’ of large restaurant chains is non-existent, where you can bring your favorite wine to enjoy along with a well prepared meal. That’s what it is all about – around the table with friends and family – our goal precisely.” Nogueira agrees, and adds this: “Our employees make us what we are, and by providing them with the right tools and high-quality ingredients we have been able to achieve our goals.”
WHEN JADE DINO, owner of Dino’s Subs, learned her popular eatery had been tabbed by our readers as the best place in the area for a sub sandwich, she exclaimed, “My father is looking down and smiling. He would be so proud.” Jade took over the primary role at the sandwich shop after the passing of her father and Dino’s founder, Larry Dino. And, she says, Daddy taught her well. “He said, ‘never, ever, go down on quality,’” she says. “All our meats are fresh to order; everything is fresh. That’s the way he did it, and that’s the way we still do it.” Jade expressed appreciation to the voters who flooded the ballot box at arlingtontoday.com earlier this summer. “We couldn’t have done it without them,” she says. “I want to thank all the loyal customers who have been there from Day One and all the new customers who have discovered us over the years. This is such a great honor.”

LAST MONTH, J. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill celebrated its 37th birthday. This month, the popular restaurant gets to celebrate again after having been named the top sports bar in the area by our readers. J. Gilligans also earned All Star status in the Burger and Happy Hour categories. While it’s a “go to” place for watching sports of all sorts – there’s always a game or several on the TVs scattered about the restaurant – J. Gilligan’s is also party headquarters for reunions, birthdays, charity functions, political events, holiday parties, youth sports Clubs, wedding events, business lunches and meetings, and ... well ... gatherings of any kind. Even if you’re not into traditional sports, the sport of having fun with family and friends is the best reason to gather the group and go to J. Gilligan’s.

Steak Winner Mac’s Bar & Grill 6077 W. I-20 (817) 572-0541 • macsteak.com MAC’S BAR & GRILL owner Mike McMahan tells a story that explains why people love his restaurant so much. “I can sum it up from the comment a customer once made to me,” he says. “The gentleman pulled me aside and said he wanted to thank me for the way our staff takes care of his family and how friendly and caring everyone is. He was especially appreciative of the hostesses always rushing to open the doors for his 95-year-old mother. “We have been around long enough to where we think of our customers as family, and we celebrate with our customers when something exciting happens in their lives, and we share their burden if something tragic happens. I have had many customers tell me they had some of their best family discussions with their kids while dining at Mac’s.” McMahan and his team are passionate about each aspect of Mac’s. That’s why they have been serving Tarrant County since 1987. In an easy atmosphere where the food is excellent and the service is warm, guests find a lively reprieve. Mac’s will accommodate your every need, whether it is a quick lunch, a casual dinner, special occasion or a gathering with old friends. “As a locally owned and operated, oneof-a kind restaurant, Mac’s has also been a true community partner,” McMahan says. “We are dedicated not only to supporting and nurturing our existing relationships, but also continually cultivating new ones within our community.”
AFTER BUYING the Candlelite Inn restaurant in 2012, Alan Petsche spent 18 months remodeling in order to “preserve the many memories of the old building and incorporate them in to the new one.” The restaurant opened in 1957 and became one of Arlington’s most popular eateries. Reopening the Candlelite Inn was personal for Petsche. “I just wanted to become a customer again, and I’m really excited that we were able to honor the history here in both atmosphere and menu,” he says. When asked why Candlelite Inn was given an Honorable Mention for “Arlington’s Best Steak.” Petsche comments, “We start with a really good aged (average of 28 days) cut of meat, season it well, and then cook it to perfection. Our goal is to make sure our food is always good and never boring. As a customer, I feel we consistently hit the mark.”

Last year, it won top honors in the Italian food category, and this year, Piccolo Mondo rules the land of lunch. Owner Antonio Capaccioli believes the restaurant’s food is what draws people to the place. “We’re more traditional in style,” he says. “I traveled a lot when I was younger, and when I found something I liked to eat, I took note. When we opened here, we offered things I liked to eat myself.” In addition to incredible cuisine, Piccolo Mondo has ample ambience, with its piano bar, and for big groups it offers a banquet room.

Our philosophy is that as women, we not only have gone through the life experiences, but we also have the enhanced education to help all of our patients deal with their physical, situational and emotional problems.” Dr. Bergstrom says the doctors at the practice are devoted to developing long-term patient relationships, always striving to build better communication systems. “We all know that time is precious, and spending hours waiting in a reception room, or on hold on the phone, is wasted,” she says. “Our on-line scheduling and patient portal provide efficient systems that women can access at all hours of the day or night.” Women’s Health Services provides well woman exams, complete obstetrical care, treatment for abnormal pap smears, abnormal uterine bleeding, hormone replacement therapy, in-office Essure, ablations, hysteroscopy, and colposcopy. EMERGENCIES ARE GIVEN such a high priority at Medical Center Arlington that the average ER wait time at the facility is updated several times each day on the hospital website. That kind of attention to detail – and to patients in need of emergency service – are at the heart of MCA’s distinction in this category. As a Level III Trauma Center, MCA is the only designated trauma center in Arlington, as well as Arlington’s first Chest Pain Center accredited by The Society for Chest Pain Centers. Recently, the hospital added more beds to the department to allow ER physicians and nurses to care for a growing number of patients. This fall, the hospital will also debut a pediatric entrance and dedicated rooms for children who often require special equipment and care. “Arlington is a growing community, and the hospital is growing along with it,” says Sarah Riley, Emergency Department director. “We have needed a pediatric emergency room in this area so parents don’t have to drive 15 to 20 miles with a seriously sick or injured child to reach an emergency room. When our renovated room opens with a separate pediatric emergency entrance, we will have unique and specialized equipment to treat children, as well as a highly trained staff dedicated to helping kids.”

Winner: Dr. Lisa B. Fell
Honorable Mention: Dr. Allison Farrell
WHILE DR. LISA B. FELL was the Readers’ Choice among local audiologists, she says both she and her partner at the practice, Dr. Kristin Robbins, are celebrating the success of Audiology Experts this month. In August 2008, these two clinical audiologists opened their own audiology practice. “Our mission was simple: provide the kind of hearing healthcare that is needed for success with hearing instruments, but do it while being the best mothers and wives we could be to our families,” Dr. Fell says. “We wanted to balance career and motherhood. It was a leap of faith, but we have never looked back,” says Dr. Robbins. Hearing loss is difficult for anyone to experience. Dr. Fell says, “we are committed to the people and families we serve because hearing loss has such negative consequences when it is unmanaged.”
ALLISON FARRELL, Au.D., joined the team at Cross Timbers ENT in 2008. Cross Timbers ENT is a team of physicians and audiologists committed to providing excellent care through personalized, attentive services for the prevention, identification and rehabilitation of hearing loss and other ear, nose and throat conditions. “Our audiology department is set apart by the extensive experience of our doctoral-level audiologists in diagnostic hearing testing, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, as well as cochlear implant services,” says Dr. Farrell. She adds that she continues to enjoy the relationships she builds with her patients as she helps to improve their quality of life by providing customized hearing care to each patient.

Dr. Stephanie Williams is a new addition to the office. There are many reasons for the company’s popularity, not the least of which is the fact that Don Davis Auto Group has been in Arlington for more than 35 years, offering quality cars of many makes and models, including Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Ford, Lincoln and Nissan. The dealership has long been recognized for its commitment to excellent customer service – regardless of the vehicle that buyers drive out of the lot. In addition to selling new cars, there is an incredible selection of pre-owned cars at each location. To whet the appetite of local would-be car buyers, Don Davis Auto Group holds an annual “Garage Sale” – and has held it each and every year for 27 years in a row. It’s the company’s big promotional event of the year. Additionally, the dealership is active in the community as a long-term supporter of WFAA’s Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive. It holds an annual “Drive-through” Toy Drive each year, which has contributed thousands of toys distributed through Mission Arlington.

We’re happy to have company to come in and shop or just sit for a visit. I think our customers feel the warmth, and they also know that Jazzy Jems is not just a boutique, but a meeting place in Arlington. You usually see someone you know in Jazzy Jems. Our relationships with our friends are very important, and, at Jazzy Jems, ‘Once a customer, Always a friend.’” Of course, the store is a “go to” spot for jewelery, accessories and “that perfect outfit for that perfect someone” on the shopping list – even if that perfect someone is the shopper herself. “We want everyone to feel good about what they purchase and confident when they wear it,” Blanchard says. “It’s not about selling clothes at Jazzy Jems; it’s about being a friend and taking care of each other.”

Since most people don’t know where to begin, the Clarke And Doyle team spends time learning how people live first. Great design should be as much about your lifestyle as it is about making your home a comfortable and welcoming place for family and friends. COMET CLEANERS locations can be found all over this country and at least one more. But you don’t have to go far to find where the company started. Indeed, the original business has served Arlington for more than nine decades, since R.L. “Jack” Godfrey left home in 1920 to work in a tailor’s shop and began his own dry cleaning company four years later. Today, there are more than 185 Comet Cleaners internationally, including seven in the Arlington area, where many of the the customers used this forum to give a collective “well done” to the Comet team for taking such good care of their garments. The staff members at Comet Cleaners believe their biggest competitor is in your house; therefore, they understand that saving you time and money should be their primary objective. That’s why they offer affordable prices so that everyone can take advantage of their services. The company’s mission statement is “To provide fine dry cleaning and laundry services at affordable prices. What does ‘fine’ mean? Attention to every detail – from the attention we show customers to the finished product we provide for them. What does ‘affordable’ mean? Prices that are competitive with other drycleaning and laundry companies.”

1122 N. Fielder Road • (817) 274.8729 • oakscleaners.com OAKS CLEANERS has been providing quality work and excellent customer service for over 15 years. As a result, it is one of our double All Stars this year, also winning the Customer Service category. Owner Phil Sellars says doing the right thing and putting the customer first is the foundation on which the business was built. Sellars says the Oaks Cleaners story is a simple one. “It is about being your neighbor and friend,” he says. “It’s about being a place where they know your name. It is friends dropping by to catch up or talk about their beloved Rangers. You may be dropping off or picking up your dry cleaning, but this is something more. We are not just another business, we are a part of the community.” Sellars says he and his team take great pride in serving that community. “We offer a variety of dry cleaning and laundry services as well as home and office delivery,” he says. “Need same-day service? We’ve got you covered, and our convenient business hours are set to serve your needs. If you are a current customer, we thank you. If you are considering us, I promise you will know that you have come to the right place.”

Winner: Ebby Halliday, REALTORS® 1201 W. Green Oaks Blvd. (817) 654-3737 • ebby.com
FOR MORE THAN 70 years, Ebby Halliday, REALTORS® has been selling homes in North Texas and is, today, a household name. The Ebby Halliday, REALTORS inventory in 1945 consisted of some 52 houses built on the old Walnut Hill Golf Course in North Dallas. The successful marketing of these hard-to-sell, hardto-finance, experimental insulated cement homes formed the springboard for the steady growth of Ebby Halliday, REALTORS as we know it today – one of the largest privately owned residential real estate firms in the country. “The most important quality about Ebby Halliday is our top professionalism and integrity in everything we do,” says Linda Magazzine, an Ebby broker associate. “Ebby Halliday chooses full time professional agents, keeping the agents educated on all aspects of the Real Estate Business – legal, market trends, etc. The consumer wants and deserves the best in choosing a real estate professional as their agent. Ebby agents are knowledgeable on the current market, which enables them to inform the consumer on one of the most valuable transactions of their lifetime – buying or selling a home for their family.”

Winner: Jim Ross
Honorable Mention: Harris Cook, LLP
JIM ROSS LAW GROUP, P.C., was established by attorney Jim Ross, a former Marine, Texas police officer and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) task force officer who had supervised local offices for some of the country’s most prestigious law firms before opening his own practice in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Ross’ professional experience led him to partner with famed environmental activist Erin Brockovich and prosecute various environmental cases throughout the country. In 2007, he left the big firm life to pursue his own practice. With a focus on litigation, Ross decided not to limit his practice to a particular area but to provide a firm that can handle a variety of his clients’ legal matters. Consequently, Jim’s clients have responded in-kind and have been the driving force behind the significant growth of the firm. The Jim Ross Law Group is a general practice litigation firm that handles cases involving personal injury, family law, civil and business litigation, criminal defense and probate matters. The firm operates on the philosophy that all people deserve representation. “It’s the Texan way and a part of the American spirit,” Ross says. “It’s often said that ‘no man is above the law.’ In America, that’s the truth. At our law firm, we represent people from many situations and walks of life.”
HARRIS COOK, LLP, has built a reputation for professionalism and effectiveness in a wide range of legal matters to give clients a wealth of expertise when they have legal issues. Because the firm has a variety of practice areas to offer clients, the office can handle multiple legal issues for the same client. Areas of concentration for attorneys David Cook and Kimberly Fitzpatrick include divorce and family law, criminal law, business litigation, wills and estates and administrative law. Kimberly Fitzpatrick and David Cook Cook says relationship building is one of the keys to the practice’s success. “We strive to maintain a reputation with clients, attorneys and courts for professionalism and proficiency and seek to aggressively advocate for all of our clients to create individualized, fair and functional solutions,” he says.

Winner: Parker & Richardson
Winner: Texas Trust Credit Union
PARKER & RICHARDSON is celebrating its second straight All Star win in the Certified Public Accountant category. Founder John Parker says the key to that success is his team’s dedication to serving clients. “Over the years, Parker & Richardson has evolved into a boutique practice that specializes in catering to to the distinct needs of our business owners,” he says. “We truly care about our clients and their businesses. They see this and really come to trust and appreciate our services.” The CPA firm provides tax planning and tax preparation, as well as accounting and consulting. “We have several clients that have us handle all facets of their accounting needs,” says Parker.
IN 1936, the employees of Chance Vought Aircraft Corporation pooled their savings to form a financial cooperative and establish a credit union. They joined forces to help one another achieve dreams, goals and financial success. They were guided by age-old credit union principles, which were based on one philosophy: People Helping People. Over the decades, the credit union has grown in membership and has expanded its services and products. Aware of its original purpose, the credit union remains true to its roots through its mission of Building Brighter Financial Futures. Today, we call that financial cooperative Texas Trust Credit Union.

Winner: Derrick Kinney
JASON DOSKOCIL created the company Doskocil Property Management in 2000, and the business now has four licensed agents and one unlicensed staff member. The full-service property management and real estate office represents buyers, sellers, landlords, owners and investors. “We are experienced in commercial and residential transactions to be a true go-to real estate company,” Doskocil says. “We do not just try to sell people something; we want to give them value by offering our advice and knowledge of things they may not have thought of. We want clients to make a solid, good investment in real estate they will be happy with. We want to earn people’s trust in the service and integrity we provide to become customers for life. This is not a hobby or part-time job. We want our clients to leave happy and wanting more.”
SO, WHAT is the secret to earning the top spot in the Financial Services category – not just this year, but two years running? The man who did just that, Derrick Kinney, has a simple answer. “The Derrick Kinney & Associates Team cares about people and families and what is important to them – personally and financially,” he says. Kinney said his team’s compassion and passion make it special. “Whether it’s helping the woman who has worked all her life be able to retire, advising the couple who wants to have enough money to travel and invest time with their grandkids, or guiding the widow left alone to generate enough income to not run out of money – the Derrick Kinney & Associates Team is here to make our client’s lives better,” he says.

LEARNING, says Arlington’s Primrose School, isn’t one size fits all. That’s why the school employs a “Balanced Learning” approach in its programs for kids ranging from infants to pre-teens. Highly skilled, dedicated teachers use proven techniques to enable each child to grow, not only in knowledge, but also in character, confidence, socialization, responsibility and other life skills. “My son started attending when he was six months old and has been there for two years,” one mother writes. “With the love and attention he receives, you would think he’s the only child attending, but they make every child feel that way.”

The family that gave us HARRIS HEIGHTS
Like his dad J.C., Bill Harris has lived a fascinating life • By Karen Gavis

ARLINGTON TODAY • August 2016 • arlingtontoday.com
arthmoving projects throughout the city indicate that urban development is trending in Arlington today – but then again, it always has. Like the Metroplex itself, Bill Harris, 78, whose father developed properties in Arlington and White Settlement more than 50 years ago, has seen lots of changes. Although he and his wife, Kay, now live in Duncanville, there’s a slice of Arlington that will always feel like home. Decorative street signs just south of Park Row Drive and east of Cooper Street elegantly announce a neighborhood known as Harris Heights, where classically designed A half century ago, J.C. Harris homes lining roads such as Baylor Drive and (with some help from son Bill) helped create the Arlington Lynda Lane showcase J.C. Harris’ homeneighborhood Harris Heights. builder skills. Bill’s sister, Martha, an Arlington ISD schoolteacher, owned one of the homes on Baylor Drive and lived there with her husband, David Farris, until her death in 2013. Two of the couple’s four children, Darla and Debbie, are also local teachers contributing to a family total of more than 75 years of elementary school teaching in Arlington. Darla says she has seen Arlington transform from having a small town feel to that of a big city whose demographic changes are also reflected in the classroom. At a nearby Starbucks, the two sisters talk about growing up in Harris Heights at a time when part of the area was still wooded. “We used to go down to Johnson Creek all the time and catch crawdads,” Debbie says. “And we’d pick blackberries for our mother.” ARLINGTON HISTORICAL Society Director Geraldine Mills says before becoming a housing development, the property had been a chicken farm. Bill says he was unaware the land was once a poultry farm, but he remembers well getting early business lessons from his father. After his mother died of cancer when Bill was 3 years old, J.C. would set him on the counter of the family’s discount store to answer incoming phone calls. Bill also tells a “Nanny McPhee”-like story about how three “sweet, old ladies” from the church in the town where they had lived in Oklahoma showed up one day to inform the judge that they

didn’t think widower Harris could properly care for his three children himself. The judge then advised J.C. to arrange a hasty marriage. Bill says his father married the housekeeper just to appease them. “After a few months,” he says, “they had it annulled.”

AFTER MOVING TO Texas, Bill later helped his father, who was busy developing Harris Convair Heights in White Settlement and Harris Heights in Arlington. He describes the various options Harris Heights homeowners had in the late 50s and early 60s: “If you lived on Baylor Drive you had a choice. You could have a green bathroom or a gold bathroom.” Bill also shares an animated tale about his short-lived job at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth: “I was running a little cook stand for hamburgers over by the pool. I was stabbing a fillet, putting mushroom bits and onions in there. [And] that’s when it hit the fan.” Bill says a woman had asked him if he could make 28 of the fillets for a party she was planning that weekend. After informing her that arrangements had to be made inside, the next thing he knew a highly paid, rotund, German chef with a handlebar mustache came storming across the lawn insisting that one of them would have to go. “And,” he says, “it was me.” FOLLOWING A SUMMER stint jackhammering holes for septic tanks for his father, Bill became motivated to attend college. After enrolling at Baylor, he opened Bill’s Bear-B-Q Den across from the university, a venture he now describes as a “Class A flop.” Under pressure, and with only 50 bucks left in his pocket, Bill decided to spend part of his dwindling funds on a massage. He says that while lying on the massage table, he burst out laughing. When the man next to him asked what he was laughing about, Bill told him his financial situation and how crazy he must be to be lying there getting a massage while going broke. Fate intervened though, because the man next to him was president of the Texas Restaurant Association. On the spot, he steered Bill toward a successful hamburger business.

Inside Bill’s den in Duncanville are mounds of magazines, photos and newspaper clippings. There are photos of him with his former employer, the late Texas billionaire H.L. Hunt. Bill later worked for the Lyndon B. Johnson administration and has portraits of the former president and Ladybird, as well, as part of his memorabilia collection. Somewhere in the mix is a news photo of him with Fort Worth businessman Charles Tandy. A color poster of the Bronco Playhouse, another of Bill’s business ventures, also rests among the piles. Debbie says Bill’s passion for news articles is part of a Harris family tradition. She and Darla recall how J.C. used to pop in at Harris Heights when they were kids offering to buy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich from them. He would also pay them to bring his newspaper in from the car. “He would make us read newspaper articles,” Debbie says. “And whoever read it the fastest got money for it.” J.C. died in 1984. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Josh, a young pilot who died during a plane crash in Japan. BILL SAYS Harris Convair Heights seems to now have faded from White Settlement’s memory. And, according to Heart of Arlington Neighborhood Association Vice President Barbara Salser, the Harris Heights street sign toppers may soon disappear, as well. Salser, who lives one house away from Harris Heights in the Brookview addition, says the association, which consists of more than a dozen neighborhoods, is considering creating a new set of street sign toppers that would eliminate neighborhood names from the street signs. With the help of the city’s new block party program, Bill hopes to celebrate his 79th birthday in the Harris Heights neighborhood this fall, he says. He also hopes the Harris Heights street sign toppers will remain. Regardless of what happens, the quaint Arlington neighborhood will remain a special place for many and a part his family’s legacy.

“The building was steel girders,” says Barbara. “And so we buzzed over here the next morning, and we took pictures of the construction. We have construction hats and took tours.” She jokes, “I might’ve given a few tips on how to build the building.” Although the building design was already in place, the couple did help in choosing the school mascot (Aviators) and colors (blue and orange). Being a former principal, James also recommended that the principal’s office, which was planned to be in the center of the building, be located instead near the front. In the summer of 2013, Lesley Rhodes was named the principal of Adams Elementary. Per James’ recommendation, she did move her office to the front of the building. “They just come and just want the best for the people here and for the school,” says Rhodes. Although Rhodes now has a strong relationship with James and Barbara, she recalls being nervous to meet them. But, she says, that nervousness was short-lived because the Adamses are warm and downto-earth people. “What I like about their presence is not just their interaction with the students, but also with the staff members,” Rhodes says. “They go around, making sure to check on each and every one of them in the hallways and things of that nature. So without a doubt, the teachers feel as if they are part of our family.” The feeling is mutual. “We are very blessed to be here,” says James. “Great kids, and the faculty here is awesome, too.” James and Barbara say they are thankful for how Rhodes made them feel so welcome and so much a part of the school. To this day, James and Barbara say, they get thanked for the school that some think they FACT:

own. They explain that they didn’t build the school, that it belongs to the district. Still, the two say they get treated like rock stars by parents and students. “They’ll break out of line and give us hugs,” says Barbara. Adams Elementary ended this past school year with 875 students, in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Barbara and James consider each one of the boys and girls their children. Even a few years after the school opened, “We still drive up and see our name on the wall, and it’s just ... it still seems funny,” says James. “It was a fantastic capping to our careers.” Barbara and James have been married for 50 years. They have two daughters, both of whom are teachers in the AISD. They have seven grandchildren. And they have a school bearing their name. Quite the legacy.

Tennis Tip
How the USTA can help you! • By Lisa Osborn
D
octors and scientists around the world point to tennis as one of the healthier activities in which to participate. Tennis delivers physical, emotional and mental gains by engaging the mind and body simultaneously. Tennis is the perfect family sport, or social get-together. Tennis develops work ethic, personal discipline and stress management in youth. Tennis enhances alertness, tactical thinking and problem solving at all ages and skill levels. Tennis is the fastest growing traditional sport in the U.S., and youth players report an “A” average in school at almost twice the rate of that of non-sports participants. So, how do you get involved with such an amazing sport? Simple: The United States Tennis Association (USTA). The USTA was founded in 1881, and it is the governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States. Its mission is to promote the sport of tennis from the grass roots level to professional tennis. The USTA owns and operates the U.S. Open, held annually in New York. Aside from its distinction as one of the sport’s “Grand Slam” events, the U.S. Open is the highest attended annual sporting event in the world. The USTA is divided up into 17 sections, with Texas Section serving as our local governing tennis organization. Texas Section (find it online at texas.usta.com) provides information about leagues, tournaments, junior programs, volunteer opportunities and so much more, all right here in the Lone Star State. Are you older than 18 and want to join a league or play in a tournament? Are you entering college and interested in intramural tennis on your campus? Click on “Adult Tennis.” Do you have a child or teenager who is interested in competitive or recreational play? Go to “Youth Tennis.” Maybe you are not a player but just LOVE the game? Texas Section has dozens of opportunities to get involved, starting in your own community. Whether you want to be an active member in the tennis community as a player or enthusiast, USTA is the starting point to get involved with the lifetime sport of tennis. Lisa Osborn is assistant tennis coach at Mansfield Legacy High School and a USPTA Elite Professional at Arlington Tennis Center.

No. 1 in emergency care Community growth drives increased ER capacity, high-caliber healthcare team • By Dana Benton Long

hat’s the secret to earning the honor of best emergency room in Arlington? A committed team that is invested in the care of people in critical need. Medical Center Arlington is honored to be recognized as the outstanding emergency room in the Arlington area because of its remarkable team, which is ready to treat emergencies from Level III trauma cases to a child’s broken arm. “It takes a special type of healthcare professional to want to work in the ER,” says Charles Phillips, MD, medical director of MCA’s emergency department, where more than 70 percent of the hospital’s patients first enter the facility. “You have to enjoy mental challenges and medical decision-making because you never know what kind of accident or illness will come in to challenge you mentally and medically.” As a designated Level III trauma center, MCA adheres to strict regulations that ensure the highest quality of procedures, staffing and processes are in place 24-7 to best care for the most serious injuries, from gunshot wounds to head injuries to complex fractures to automobile accidents. As part of this designation, trauma surgeons, as well as other physician specialists, are required to be available 24 hours a day. HCA North Texas, the parent company of Medical Center Arlington, has invested in the emergency needs of the community 98

by adding more beds to allow ER physicians and nurses to care for a growing number of patients. This fall, the hospital will also debut a pediatric entrance and dedicated rooms for children who often require special equipment and care. Roughly 30-percent of MCA’s emergency patients are children. “Arlington is a growing community and the hospital is growing along with it,” says Sarah Riley, Emergency Department director at MCA. “We have needed a pediatric emergency room in this area so parents don’t have to drive 15 to 20 miles with a seriously sick or injured child to reach an emergency room. When our renovated emergency room opens with a separate pediatric emergency entrance, we will have unique and specialized equipment to treat children, as well as a highly trained staff dedicated to helping kids.” “From urgent care centers, including CareNow, to the full-service ER at Grand Prairie and the busy hospital emergency department at Medical Center Arlington,” adds Dr. Phillips, “we invest in the highest caliber residency-trained and board-certified professionals who are committed to emergency medicine.” The powerful combination of that highly trained medical team and commitment to community care will ensure that Medical Center Arlington will remain the hospital of choice in this growing area.

Speaking of Sports
Oh, so close Remembering the 1996 Rangers, the club’s first playoff team, which almost made more history • By John Rhadigan
I
n March of 1996, this reporter found himself in deep. Way past knee deep. I was hip deep with two Rangers pitchers, Kevin Gross and Dennis Cook. Hip deep in salt water, that is. (Even 20 years younger, I tried to steer my way clear of deep do-do.) The salt water was in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Rangers pitchers were in deeper water than I was. They were fishing, I was “reporting on them fishing,” my cameraman Kerry Smith was ... drowning. Not literally, but it is tough to operate a 45 pound camera when you are hip deep in water. Still, this was an opportunity we could not pass up. On an off day during Juan Gonzalez did his best to spring training the guys went fishlead the Rangers ing and invited us to come along. As I in the ‘96 playoffs. watched them cast and reel, cast and reel, I knew that this was going to be a fun Rangers team to cover. As we left Port Charlotte in late March, Manager Johnny Oates was saying that if he could get 15 wins out of each of his starters then the Rangers could make the playoffs. Photo: articles.philly.com Well, yeah! To this day, if a team can get 15 wins each from five different starters, the post-season is a good bet. But betting on that quintet may have included long odds. As it turns out, Ken Hill won 16; so did Bobby Witt. Roger Pavlik won 15, Darren Oliver was a starter back then and won 14, and Gross got to 11 wins. Of course, the Rangers acquired John Burkett after mid season, and he added five victories of his own. Johnny was hoping for 75 wins from his starters – he got 77. One of the best stories of the entire season was shortstop Kevin Elster. A second round pick of the Mets in 1984, Elster had a few good years in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. But from ‘92-95, he bounced around to four different teams. A shoulder injury allowed him to play in only 49 big league games over the course of four seasons. Then came 1996. Elster played in 157 games for the Rangers, and he hit 24 home runs after hitting only 36 in the previous nine years. Elster drove in 99 runs that year and finished the season with a career best .252 batting average. He might not have even been invited to spring training, if not for his agent/brother Pat. “His brother was persistent, “ said then-Rangers GM Doug Melvin. “I said if he wants to come in a compete for a job, that shows me something.” Elster came to Port Charlotte to show Doug something. But he knew he was competing for a job as a back up to young phenom Benji Gil. As it turns out, Benji sat and Kevin played 157 games. Kevin Elster won the American League comeback player of the year award in 1996. Actually, there was so much to love about that season – Juan Gonzalez was the 102

AL MVP, Johnny Oates was co-Manager of the Year, an honor he shared with Joe Torre of the Yankees, and, of course, the team made it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Still if you mention that season to the players today, you might notice them shaking their head with a resigned sigh. Oh, they loved that team; it’s just that they hate the way that season ended. The first playoff game in Rangers history was a win over the legendary Yankees in the Bronx. Behind Burkett the Rangers beat David Cone and the favored Yankees. The heartbreaker was game two. Gonzalez told his teammates to get on his back; he would carry them to another victory. After Juan hit his second and third home runs of the series, the Rangers had a 4-2 lead in the seventh inning. The Yankees scored single runs in the seventh and eighth to tie it and won Game Two with a run in the 12th. Game three was the first-ever playoff game in Arlington, and the Rangers took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning. But the Bronx Bombers did it again. They scored two in the ninth and gave the ball to their closer, John Wetteland, who closed the door on a 3-2 Yankees win. Wetteland saved game four, too, a 6-4 Yankees win, and the Rangers started shaking their heads. As they left the ballpark that rainy October night they felt like they were the better team. Many of them still feel that way. For their part, the Yankees went on to win the World Series that year. That ‘96 team was honored earlier this season. When they gathered in the Rangers interview room, they laughed and cried and hugged and remembered. They remembered everything from pre-season fishing expeditions to post-season disappointment. Like any fish story, this one gets a little bigger and better as the years go by, but the facts remain: The Rangers were this close to sweeping the Yankees. Oh what might have been!

A salute to all of the All Stars The small businesses in our community represent the backbone of the local economy • By Richard Greene
T
his month’s edition of Arlington Today celebrates the community’s most popular shops, stores, merchants, service providers, eateries and more. It gives us an opportunity to be reminded of the impact of small business on our local economy. Some of the figures may come as a surprise to many. Business and news publications across the country tell the story of how small businesses are the engines of job creation across America. There are more than 25 million small businesses in the United States that account for up to 75 percent of all our jobs. Entrepreneurial endeavors contribute to the economic health in some obvious and not-so-obvious ways. Annalists describe the “ripple effect” of successful businesses. Not only are there jobs for the creators of proprietorships, partnerships and corporate entities, but also more people are hired as growth occurs, and that spurs indirect employment at other companies where business is done. The website entrepreneur.com sums up the impact by concluding that creative business endeavors not only achieve their own success but also have major effects on company owners, employees, customers and suppliers. They also can share resources with nonprofit groups, charities or community service organizations to fulfill unmet needs throughout our society. Estimates tell us if every small business grew enough this year to hire just one additional person, a job would be created for each of the currently unemployed 7.5 million persons in the country. That would leave about 12 million companies looking for new hires. Those kinds of statistics help explain why cities across America are so competitive in their economic development initiatives. I tell my University of Texas Arlington students that the reasons cities work so hard to attract corporate entities is because they (1) pay most of the bills and (2) provide all the jobs. When it comes to Arlington’s economy, what almost immediately comes to mind are the big names such as General Motors, Six Flags Over Texas, The Texas Rangers, The Dallas Cowboys, UT Arlington, and the big retail centers like The Parks at Arlington mall and The Highlands. Taking into consideration all the other small businesses inside those shopping complexes, strip centers, at intersections in neighborhoods and individual businesses along the city’s thoroughfares, we realize that our city, too, has all the characteristics of a strong economy thanks to the many merchants, professionals, and individuals who run them. 106

A quick look at some of the services of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce for its small business members reveals all kinds of work going on in the community driving our economic health. In the Member Marketplace, business people work together to develop good business relationships and further each other’s efforts to grow and prosper. Just a partial representation of business activities includes disciplines as varied as financial consultation services, support for compliance with government regulations, horse-riding lessons, legal services, identity theft protection and resolution, information technology training, photography and video services, and where to call for box lunches for employees and guests working through the noon hour. An even easier way to realize just how widespread the business of local business is in our broader community is to take a closer look at this month’s issue of the magazine in your hands. Our readers across the region have weighed in on the annual selection of their favorite places to eat, shop, get better, take the kids, celebrate special events, play outdoors, relax, or cheer on the Rangers. This year’s contest was the largest ever in the Arlington, Mansfield, Grand Prairie and Kennedale communities we serve. The number of votes that were cast and the variety of categories significantly expanded this popular feature. The results are in, and the “All Stars” have been featured throughout. Reading about them provides terrific insight into the importance and value to all of us of the role that big and small business play in our community. Of course, there’s still another way to explore the local business scene – take a look at our advertisers. They are the ones that make Arlington Today possible. Without them, we couldn’t do what we do, and they all make for a great illustration of the essential economic structure of our great community.
Richard Greene served as Arlington’s mayor from 1987-1997 and currently teaches in UT Arlington’s graduate program in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs.

Is Abdominoplasty right for you? Mark Bishara, M.D. Over forty-five million Americans diet each year and spend approximately one to two billion dollars a year on weight loss programs. In the past five years weight loss surgery has experienced a tremendous jump. Over fifty thousand patients in the U.S. will undergo some form of gastric bypass surgery this year and the effects of this surgery are immeasurable. The health benefits of massive weight loss are numerous and profound.
However, after a patient experiences massive weight loss, the body skin is not able to retract to the smaller size of the body underneath. This results in large pendulous hanging breasts, significant excess underarm skin (sometimes known as bat wings), and significant lower abdominal skin and laxity that causes rashes, impairs the ability to wear normal clothes and sometimes even daily activity. Having an abdominoplasty is a safe and effective procedure that can help a patient drastically improve their appearance! Dr. Mark Bishara and The Paragon Plastic Surgery offer body contouring surgery designed specifically for patients who have achieved significant weight loss.
Procedures that remove skin or fat, tighten and lift can be used as a complement to help your clothes fit better and allow you to participate more comfortably in your favorite activities and be able to look as good on the outside as you now feel on the inside! Abdominoplasty helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best candidates have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven’t responded well to diet and exercise. A tummy tuck can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy.
Dr Bishara and staff also perform: • Breast Enhancement Surgery • Eyelid Lift Surgery • Thigh and Buttock Lift • Liposuction • Face/Neck Lift • Robotic Hair Restoration
• Botox/Radiesse/Belotero/ Voluma XC/UltraPlus XC • Chin Implant • Laser 360/Hydrafacial MD • Tattoo Removal • Hand Rejuvenation
