Set at Copperstone, a lavish equine estate in the heart of Byron Bay, the collection embodies a new antipodean aesthetic – one that draws reference from England, Belgium, Spain and Japan, while championing Australia’s unique pastoral heritage. Built by the esteemed Lane family as a place to gather and host family and friends, the sustainably-minded property – like our rugs – is an idyllic backdrop for the making of new memories, be it at home or a home away from home.
Thatch calls forth the wabi sabi refinement of a glamorous chalet. The light pile of precise Persian knots graces interiors with both an industrious quality and exemplary style. Designed for a 5-star hotel experience, but just as easily imaginable within the home, the four mineral tones – Dew, Concrete, Marsh and Pink Salt – elicit a sense of serenity while deftly withstanding day-to-day exertions.

Genoa is a linear rug redolent of the rock striations on nature’s periphery. An artisanal technique of working linen and wool yarns around thin rods tames the varying stripe widths into a delectably soft pile of 74 knots per square inch. Sandalwood has the visual appeal of a luxe farmhouse, with a cozy yet elevated weave finished by a loose fringe.

The idyllic setting for our Panorama Collection, Copperstone is a lavish equine estate, situated in the Bangalow hinterland but just as easily imaginable in the Tuscan hills or Argentinian countryside. Envisioned by the esteemed Lane family as a luxurious destination to gather and host, the stunning retreat nurtures a sense of slow living and a deeper connection to nature.
Can you tell us a little bit about the property?
EMMA LANE: Copperstone was created through our love of beautiful places and experiences that we wanted to embody in a property that we could use as a family as well as share with others. It is a lifestyle estate including equine facilities, tennis court, pool and a wellness experience.
How have you blended European and Australian design influences?
EL: The design vision takes its core roots from memories of European summers - in particular, Copperstone takes inspiration from old Italy - but we must never forget the heritage of where the home exists, so there is a hefty nod to Australia too.
What is it about this equestrian lifestyle that resonates with you?
EL: I love the grace and sophistication that this equestrian element brings; it feels a touch regal and very romantic.
How did you design the home around your generous hospitality?
EL: The key is that the places of cooking, preparing and eating are all beautiful, easy to use and conducive to enjoying the views and the house itself, to encourage connection and enjoyment.
To you, how can the touch of a handcrafted, natural rug elevate a space?
EL: I love that the Armadillo rugs are so understated but luxurious, providing the perfect foundations to hold furniture with longevity and timelessness.
