Excellence Centre As the name suggests, these centers will be designed with the aim of upgrading and augmenting the skills of working healthcare professionals. Our approach will be to create a space that allows for this process to happen in an evolutionary manner that is user friendly. This will be a space where professionals interact with the various tools and methodology both in an active and a passive manner. Our intent is to create an environment that serves the purpose of being an educational center without strictly adhering to the existing visual and spatial paradigms. We envisage it as an interactive space for the professionals where traditional tools of imparting knowledge will merge seamlessly with technology hence making these centers upgradable and viable in the long term.

The process Chart. Intention is to read the ACTIVITY Pattern in this organization. This will guide the basic architectural space planning when we move on to the analysis of the physical quality of the space. Following chart shows all the possible activities happening. This way we will be able to identify the clusters of activities, which will optimize the circulation space. This flow diagram will also help in identifying the PUBLIC, SEMI PUBLIC and PRIVATE spaces

Identifying Functional clusters On the basis of the above mentioned process chart it is now easy to identity the clusters of activities with the buffer/breakout/spillover spaces. This will help in further designing the design character that can be applied to the clusters which will in turn inform the larger design vocabulary. Each cluster can be designed as an extension of the architectural style that is derived out of the brand identity and the requirement, both current and future, of the excellence center.

Merits and Demerits of the two options.
The Radial Access :
The Linear Access :
1. Better functional module in terms of accessibility.
1. Easy access to all activities.
2. Buffer space in clusters created naturally.
2. Will require lesser area.
3. Lighting, AV installations and information systems can be designed to accentuate this central space thereby creating a vibrant core to the excellence center.
3. Heavily loaded central access. Makes the central space feel like circulation space.
4. All activities are partially visible. Hence becomes more welcoming and allows the professionals to visit the place as per their interest.
4. Will create smaller interaction zones within the spine that responds to the neighboring activity allowing creating of smaller designed nodes. This will make the circulation exploratory.
5. Informal and Interactive.

The Solution. Integrating the both the systems: Going Organic. 1. Provides Flexibility . 2. Allows for the creation of an interesting central space that is vibrant and inviting and at the same time support various activities of the program. 3. Will create a design paradigm that is different from traditional healthcare spaces. 4. Space will be a informal learning environment .

Architectural Vocabulary Breaking away from the life in artificial light of hospitals and creating a healthy breathing space for medical professionals. Natural light and green connections to be used in the whole setup. This will help in Idealizing, not only the local environment but also the hospital and clinic architecture. Informal and interconnected common activities makes the space more interactive and promotes the use of visual screens. Bringing in Both Digital and natural Elements in one space.

Classroom sketches Translating the idea into a physical space . Classrooms have a buffer space in terms of a corridor which connects almost all spaces. Also the partial visibility of the corridor through the cutout makes it a part of the common area.

Classroom sketches Sitting layout to explain the idea of better visibility towards the stage. Stepped/auditorium seating in classroom helps un-obstructed view towards the presenter and the projection. Hence making for a better design for the class rooms.

Seminar hall Sketches. Seminar hall should encourage spill over when needed. Because it’s a multipurpose space. Large revolving doors or sliding folding door might help this space to become a public space in times of activity change. Projection and sitting orientation should be a flexible process because loose furniture will be the part of this space.

Activity room sketch. Unlike other activities this area is more open and is visually connected with the circulation spaces. Small games and Television and recreation activities are the part of it. Vibrant colors and themed lighting make these spaces visually attractive so hence majority of the partitions should be kept in glass so as to make it more welcoming towards the visitors.
