ACADEMIC WORK

Ende Fishery Vocational High School Course Supervisor Year

: Final Project : Andreas Louis, ST., MT. Thomas Aquino, ST.,MT. : 2013

Indonesia is a maritime country that has the largest sea area with huge fishery potential. However, the limited human resources hinder Indonesia’s opportunity to maximize this marine potential. This final project proposes a design for a fishery vocational school as a place to educate competent generations in the field of marine and fisheries. The chosen site is located in Ende which is known as having one of the biggest fishery potentials in Eastern Indonesia, a perfect site to become a learning laboratory for students. The site itself is situated near Wolowana river shore and the estuary. The site also receives bright sunlight and strong winds throughout the year which can be used as a potential renewable energy source. The design is a complex of boarding school which consist of three facilities; educational facility such as classrooms, laboratories, and library; living facility such as dormitory dining area; and supporting facility such as multi function building and student center . All of the facilities are located in one area. The main concept of the design is to create building that can reduce energy usage by maximizing the potential of renewable energy sources at the site using energy-saving principles, both active and passive strategies. For the passive strategy, a rhythmic configuration of slender mass building with wide openings in the north-south side functioned to capture light and wind so that it is possible to reduce energy usage for artificial lighting and ventilation. Meanwhile, active strategy relies on devices such as solar panel, and wind turbine which are integrated into the buildings to produce its own electrical energy.

Uniflor Student Housing Course Instructor Year

: Architecture Design Studio 6 : Petrus J. Alfred D.D, S.T., M.T. : 2012 (Fourth Year)

The Design Studio challenged student to design a new typology of student housing in the context of vertical building. Here, I came up with the idea to break a stereotype of vertical residential which usually has lack of communal space for dwellers to interact. Located in a residential neighborhood, the design offers an inclusive student housing which aimed to not only stimulate social interaction among boarding dwellers but also allow surrounding neighborhood to interact and engage with dwellers. Inspired by how locals interact, the building mass was designed with a fluid, wide, and uninterrupted circulation which create flexible meeting space between residents that is accessible for everyone. In the ground level, the mass was split up in order to allow access to connect the existing settlements with the main road. The program was divided based on the level of building. The student housing area occupies the 1st floor to the 10th floor while the ground floor is donated to become a public area consisting of public space and commercial facilities that can be used by both surrounding residents and the boarding dwellers. The provision of the inner-court in the center of the building does not only function as public space, but also a design strategy to create micro climate in the building area.

Homestead Lakeside Shelter Course Instructor Year

: Advance Design Studio 510 : Jason Griffits : 2019

This is one of the alternative schematic designs for design and built studio in collaboration with Homestead National Monuments that intended to provide a lakeside shelter on Homestead National Monument property in Beatrice, Nebraska. The Ramada is designed to complement the two existing buildings on the site; the homestead Heritage center museum and an iconic old Authentic Cabin that has been stood since 1867. Placed in small pieces of land overlooking a small lake, Ramada will function as gathering place for visitors to enjoy the scenery while doing other outdoor activities such as grilling, having lunch, and also fishing. The building itself is an interpretation of the old cabin which defined as a new type of barn where use wood construction. The slate facade is used to corroborant agricultural language that become the spirit of place and region. The simple green principle also applied where the roof is designed to collect rainwater.

PROFESSIONAL WORK

Bandung Traffic Edutainment Park Firm Status Year Role

: LABO Architecture and Design : Completed : 2016 - 2017 : Architect in charge (Develop 3D model, provide 2D schematic drawings, rendering images for presentation, supervising construction process on site)

In early 2016, Toyota Astra Motor, who intended to grant their CSR funds, invited us to join the limited competition to redesign the Bandung Traffic Park. Our firm eliminated other participants and came up as the winner and with a proposal called “Experiencing Bandung”. The proposal basic idea was simply to replicate the driving experience in Bandung City into the park area. The design is inspired by the city of Bandung, which is known with the various tourism objects ranging from urban attraction to the exoticism of natural setting. The design transformed this 3.5 hectares land into 3 zones which are divided into Town zone; Mountain zone; and Water zone with different attraction in each zones. In addition, in order to enable visitors easy access to all these areas, we also proposed to provide a set of recreational transportation such as bicycles, mini buses, and mini trains whose routes surround these zones. Some new facilities were added such as Traffic Education Center, open air stage, amphitheater, as well as a new elevated bicycle track that crossed over a big stepping pond in Water zone. The design also added some attractive features such as landmarks, tree house, art installation, and several picture spots to make this park more attractive. In addition, regarding the environment issue, the design tried to not cut any trees in this area. So, the placement of the new buildings were arranged according to the position of existing trees. Another positive point of the project was giving contribution for the city’s public space by providing a 6 meters wide plaza in front of the park for public activities. This project is located in a new developed area in Depok, West Java. This building stands on a quite strategic area where there are several large campuses situated around it. Targeting the student market, the project proposed a mix used building which consist of several programs such as apartment, hotel, rental offices, and entertainment facilities. The building comprised of 3 towers. The residential apartment uses 2 towers designated for different occupant segments, one tower for single and one tower for family segment. Meanwhile, one tower is functioned as a hotel. The podium level are filled with various functions for public activities. While the second floor is used for rental office, retail and entertainment area, the ground floor is used for more inclusive functions such as F&B and retail area. In addition, the building also provided some spaces for communal activities. The design includes some leisure features such as basketball court on the ground floor as well as two separated swimming pools which are placed on the rooftop of podium and can be shared with both apartment residents and the public. Due to budget constraint, the facade of the building is designed to be as attractive as possible while requiring minimal effort. The strategy was conducted by utilizing the bulging tower’s balconies that arranged in rhythmic order to create a dynamic and attractive facade.

Firm Status Year Role

: LABO Architecture and Design : Completed : 2014 - 2017 : Architect in charge (Develop 3D model, make 2D schematic drawings, rendering images for presentation, supervising construction process on site)

This building is part of Pusat Studi Qur’an (Center for Quranic Studies)complex located in South City, a new developed area in Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang-Indonesia. The building is used as a dormitory to accommodate students from all over Indonesia who come to study the Qur’an. Besides the main function as dormitory and guest-house, this building also accommodates other functions such as classrooms, libraries, managing offices, canteens, and multipurpose rooms. The building consists of two rectangular masses with inner-court in the middle as an open shared space. In the program, the 5 stories building is divided into 3 zones. The ground floor is used as communal areas where the dining room and inner-court are located, as well as used as rooms for guests and teachers. The first floor is used as study and office area where the managing office, classroom, and library are placed. The last top three levels, from second floor to fourth floor, are functioned as the residential area where the dormitory rooms are situated. The building facade is using secondary skin in the form of a customized roster (concrete-clay base perforated block) specifically designed for this project. Rhythm placement of roster walls are arranged in such a way to create dynamic expression. The color of the building is designed with natural tones, following the pure color of the materials. The natural colors that come from exposed concrete, transparent glass, and terracotta roster add warmth atmosphere for the building as a place to study and live .

PRODUCT DESIGN

IAWS Exhibition Pedestal Firm Type Year Role

: LABO Architecture and Design : Product/Instalation : 2017 : Designer (Make 3D model, make the working drawings, supervising the making process)

In 2017 LABO hosted an event called Indonesian Architecture Week in Seoul (IAWS), an exhibition that featured 50 works of selected Indonesian architects. The exhibition was organized as a collateral events of the three-year World Architecture Conference that took place in Seoul, South Korea. This event took place at Haenghwa Tang, a former public bath house which now changed into a cafe and art gallery. The fragile condition of the old building unables any exhibition materials to be nailed on the wall or ceiling. Responding to the building constraint, the pedestal is designed to be an independent structure to put all exhibition materials such as panel, model, and lighting. Another consideration of the design is the mobilization from Indonesia to Korea. In order to make it easy to carry, the pedestal was designed to be light, compact, and easily assembled. The pedestal is basically a simple structure consisting of a 25mmx25mm hollow corroded metal frame and supported by a 6mm thick clear acrylic sheet which serves as bracing as well as the base to put the models. The description panel is also simply printed on a light sheet fabric and illuminated with the integrated LED strip light. As a result, the pedestal with rustic steel structure matches with the old building.

Gasing Bench-Installation Firm Type Year Role

: LABO Architecture and Design : Product/Installation : 2016 : Designer in charge (Make 3D model, make the working drawings, rendering images for presentation, supervising the making process)

The bench-installation was designed to take part in Jakarta Architecture Triennale (JAT), a triennial architecture festival organized by the Indonesian Institute of Architect Jakarta Chapter (IAI Jakarta). For this 2015 edition, the festival brought a main theme called “Playful Urban Intervention” as a response of the individualistic urban society phenomenon. Inspired by Indonesian traditional toy called “Gasing” (top toy) that has a value of togetherness and cooperation, the design of this benchinstallation is intended to stimulate people interaction in public space. This playful bench uses the main principle of Gasing which is balance. The bench can only work properly if it is used by more than one person. In that sense, someone need to ask other if they want to “play” the bench. That is the goal of the bench-installation: to stimulate people interaction by making them play together. The design was quite simple, basically this bench is just a lightweight round metal frame that forms a silhouette of Gasing. The steel frame then wrapped using a rattan, which is one of the common Indonesian materials, in order to elevate the values of local wisdom. In addition, the bench is also made in several sizes (S, M, L, and XL), which can be used by people in various number and age.
