HAPPY HELPER APPRECIATION MONTH
This May, DB families are being asked to recognise the work of their helpers, whether with a grand gesture or a simple thank you. As concept co-creator Steve Chitty says, “Our aunties and uncles make a lot of sacrifices and are essential to many of our lives. This is our opportunity to honour and celebrate them.”
Launched back in 2015, Helper Appreciation Month enables all of us in the community – individuals, schools and businesses – to give of our time to ensure that DB helpers feel the love and have some well-deserved fun. A series of informative and empowering free events are being planned. To register and get involved, visit Facebook @ MayisHelperAppreciationMonth and www.dbis.hk/karaoke.
A few of the activities on offer this month:
• May 6, 13, 20, 27 Yoga with Embody
• May 7 Medical and Health Talk by Dr Winnie Siu
• May 7, 14, 21, 28 Yoga with Anri and Jonathan
• May 7 Aunties’ Karaoke Event by DBIS PTSA
• May 21 Physiotherapy Talk with Gita Go
• May 28 Beach Tennis at Tai Pak Wan
Helper Appreciation Month is the time to prioritise our helpers and their wellbeing, while thanking them for always being there for us. It is all too easy to start taking the extra help many of us enjoy for granted. As Steve says, “The ultimate hope is that Helper Appreciation Month will encourage us all to have another look at the people who help in our lives.”
This year’s event serves as a reminder to all of us to be thankful. Feeling appreciated boosts self-esteem. It motivates people to improve themselves and encourages a positive work ethic. After all, who doesn’t want to be appreciated for the work they do and the love they give?
