Brief

Typology : Institutional Mentors : Dinesh Rao, Suman Paul, Bikram Chakraborty, Diya Bannerjee Location : Moodbidri, Karnataka The studio site was Moodbidri,Karnataka. The objective was to study the origin and evolution of the town , the quality and character of the spaces and its unique architectural expression, specifically focusing on the Jain Basadis and its concentration areas and come up with a program that is a meaningful addition to the existing urban fabric and design for the same.

02

The project aims to create architecture that responds to the specific demands of the urban context; understand the processes that impact architecture and the implications of design decisions on the larger context. It does so by addressing the secondary problems around Moodbidri that are causing primary concerns to the residents and the existing urban fabric of the place. Architecture that solves problem so that the natural and organic order of things can prog ress and maybe even improve if deterrents of such growth is impeded at the earliest. being

CONCEPT AND PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT KEY WORDS: Site specific intervention Materials available on or around site Daily social life ABOUT THE PROJECT

ISSUES IDENTIFIED :

Due to the lack of tourist infrasctructure, the tourists and pilgrims that come to visit ‘JAIN KASHI’ have to make alternative arrangements for resting and lodg ing. Because of this there is a disconnect between the people that come to visit the place and the place itself and its residents. They tend to overlook the prominance of the place and do not give its residents the respect that is due. SWAMIJI, MOODBDRI
