THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART Dear Members and Friends of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The wild Scottish countryside—with its moors that turn purple in summer, its wide lochs and romantic castles steeped in history, and its ancient standing stones—is the dramatic backdrop for a spectacular Celtic Isles cruise next July from Edinburgh to Dublin, aboard Sea Cloud II. We are delighted that Beth Carver Wees, Ruth Bigelow Wriston Curator of American Decorative Arts, will be accompanying us on this voyage. She will be joined by other distinguished lecturers from Harvard, Yale, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Life aboard the three-masted Sea Cloud II has no comparison. Experience the excitement of traveling under billowing sails, and enjoy impeccable service and state-of-the-art amenities. An optional prelude in Edinburgh and an optional postlude in Dublin are offered. I hope you will join us on this fascinating summer cruise, as we travel in the company of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the alumni associations of Harvard and Yale. Sincerely,
TR AV ELING W ITH YOU Beth Carver Wees is the Ruth Bigelow Wriston Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum, where she oversees the collections of American silver, jewelry, and other metalwork. She lectures internationally and is the author of numerous articles and books, including Early American Silver in The Metropolitan Museum of Art (2013). Beth holds degrees in art history from Smith College and the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art. An enthusiast for Britain’s historic houses, she is an alumna of the Attingham Summer School and the Royal Collection Studies and sits on the board of the American Friends of Attingham. She is currently the organizing curator for a Museum–wide jewelry exhibition, scheduled to open at the Metropolitan in the fall of 2017. u

Wednesd ay, July 27 Be on deck this morning as Sea Cloud II enters picturesque Loch Ewe. Tour magnificent Inverewe Gardens, now managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Here the subtropical vegetation thrives and blooms year round due to the warming effects of the Gulf Stream. We will see rare flora brought from locations around the world, particularly the Southern Hemisphere. The purple heather should be at its peak here, and throughout the Scottish portion of our trip.
