DOLORES HIDALGO City that gave rise to the Independent Mexico through its historical events, which is why it is recognized as the "Cradle of National Independence", decreed by the Constitutional Congress of Guanajuato on December 15, 1947. Dolores Hidalgo is also custody of an old craft tradition characterized mainly by the beauty of his famous Talavera pottery. The most important day in the history of this city and the nation was in September 16, 1810, in which the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla gave the "Grito de Independencia" (Cry of Independence) uprising against Spanish domination. That is why this city holds the title of “Cuna de la Independencia” (Cradle of National Independence) by government decree. Don Miguel Hidalgo developed activities to benefit people, built proper places for the artisans to work in pottery, carpentry and loom (weaving yarn into textiles), planted mulberry trees; planted thousands of vines and trained farmers and artisans. These actions proper of a social and economic promoter between the villagers explained the influence exerted on the people who followed him to perform the act of Independence. The President Lazaro Cardenas began on September 15, 1940 the tradition of the 'Cry of Independence' in the atrium of the parish on Saturdays at 21:00, where is performed a show of lights and music to evoke the deeds that occurred from the “Grito de Independencia” (Cry of Independence).
