Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.
Psalm 127:3-5
Welcome!
Welcome to our 2023 C Diamond production sale. Another year has come and gone and the wild ride of farming and ranching continues. The April blizzard was the worst I’ve ever experienced but I’m only 31 so what do I know? Summer was pretty decent other than the lack of rainfall, but with the spring moisture we were able to have good hay and corn crop. The calves did very well this summer as our pasture made a huge rebound from the drought the year before. Fall was very nice as we were able to get bulls weaned with very minimal issues. Then November hit and we got our first blizzard. Unfortunately, the weather has been on and off miserable all winter and I’m just very grateful for how the cattle have handled the challenges we’ve faced.
The optimism around the beef industry has really come on all summer and makes doing what we do each day feel like it’s worth the time and effort. The calf crop is the most consistent group we’ve had as far as muscle, structure and growth. Our continued mission is to produce high performing cattle that can carcass, but still have the maternal traits to be excellent females. We feel everything starts with the cow and stems off from there. We start with a commonsense approach using
phenotype and epds and then utilize genomic testing to enhance your success through increased predictability. This group of bulls accurately represents our goals and how we can make our bulls profitable for you. Like always we are offering $100 off your bull purchase if you stop in before February 20th and we always welcome phone calls with questions. Weather permitting our videos should be on DV Auction early in February. We look forward to seeing you February 22, 2023!

Local
ADG & Feed Ration
The average daily gain was figured on a 90 day test. We work with PNC Feeds of Hebron, ND for balancing the ration. We target a 3.5 lb ADG average on the bulls. We feel that shows their growth potential without sacrificing their longevity. They are developed in big open pens and get plenty of exercise to properly develop.
Delivery:
Yearling bulls will be fed for free, semen tested and delivered after April 1st. Bulls will be delivered free of charge up to 250 miles from the ranch. We will work with the buyer to arrange the most economical delivery for distances beyond 250 miles.
Any cattle selling to Canada will be delivered to the nearest border crossing facility on the ND side. Buyers will be responsible for any costs associated with testing/ clearance for export.
Genomic Enhanced EPDS:
Many of the bulls selling in the 2023 sale have EPD’s enhanced with DNA technology. We are investing in the latest technology available to provide you with the most accurate EPD’s possible. This technology improves the accuracy of EPDs on yearling bulls as if they were an older bull with progeny proof! You will see “Genomic Enhanced EPDs” at the beginning of the footnotes of the bulls that have genomic enhanced EPD profiles. Check online for the most up-to-date EPDs.
Retained Semen Interest, docility & volume discounts: See Page 4
Retained Interests
We’ve wanted a transparent scale of retained semen interest that we can refer to and is easily understood by everyone, thus resulting in no behind the scenes deal that benefits one bidder over another. Please refer to the retained semen interest levels below. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.
Level 1 - Up to $19,999 we will retain 50% semen interest
Level 2 - $20,000 to $39,999 we will retain 33.3% semen interest
Level 3 - $40,000 and above we will retain 25% semen interest
The buyer has the option to buy out our retained semen interest at the time of the sale if so desired. In the case that the buyout of seller’s retained semen interest happens, we retain the right to collect semen on the bull at our own expense for in herd use only. The formula we use to calculate the semen interest buyout is as follows:
[Purchase price = semen rights already purchased (60% of purchase price) + pasture rights (40% of purchase price)]
Volume Discounts:
We will be offering the following discounts for volume bull buyers:
3 head – 3% off total purchases
4 head – 4% off total purchases
5 head or more – 5% off total purchases
ALLOWING YOU ACCESS...
When semen is collected on a CDI bull with the intent to market:
We would like to visit with you before the sale if considering purchasing and marketing semen on a CDI bull. In a perfect world we would gladly share in all the collection expenses and promotion, then split revenue accordingly, but given the bookkeeping nightmare that can arise when trying to keep track of multiple different bulls per year, we are forced to narrow down our list of bulls each year that we move forward with, collecting and promoting. That being said we realize that you may see something that we are missing, or believe that a herd bull may have potential to sell semen. In the instance that you want to collect semen to market, we give you the go ahead to do so, we only ask that once you’ve recouped your expenses with semen revenue that we can then discuss a portion of the semen revenue be returned to the original breeder. We understand the complexities that can arise and only ask that you keep an open dialogue with us in your plans moving forward. We reserve the right to “opt out” of the expense sharing, but also understand that you will receive the revenue from semen sales till your expenses are covered.
Docility Scores (Doc):
Please note the docility score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle: 1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

2023 purebred SIMMENTAL PERCENTILE TABLE
Currently one of the hottest and most influential dams in the industry and her impact on our herd is no different. We have ownership of three direct sons and one grandson and have used LCDR Favor and BCLR Manifesto extensively AI. Her EPD profile along with phenotype is almost unmatched. Her four sons and three grandsons heavily influence our black program and we added two more grandsons (Impact sons) to our bull line-up and will have progeny out of them in 2023.
CDI REDEEMED- Proclamation son we raised and retained for his attractive phenotype, high carcass traits and stout performance. With 8 EPDs in top 5%, he has done everything we’ve hoped and more. We can’t wait to see his daughters in production this year as they are massive bodied, brood cow type animals
LCDR AFFIRMED- Heifer bull with performance, elite carcass traits, smooth and attractive cattle with fault-free structure, high API.
CDI SIR FREDERICKS- Impact son was our 2nd high seller in 2021 that we used extensively AI and thru ET. He was a little more moderate with an excellent cow on the back side that gave us some outcross genetics to our black program. Fluid structure with terrific feet, muscle in a moderate package.
LCDR IMPACT- One of the very highest growth bulls in the industry, stamps his calves with a unique look that is so easy to pick out, daughter’s first calf crop was very successful with good milk, udder shape and production.
BCLR MANIFESTO- Another Proclamation son we’ve used for his strong EPD profile along with his stout phenotype. Getting the 701T on the dam side is the added bonus. Top 2% WW, YW, CW, Doc, Marb and TI.

• Granddam 229X is still rocking and also is mother to 360K

• New genetics for people wanting % calves
• Also one of the strongest performers when it comes to all-around production
• Young Firesteel dam has picture perfect udder and strong maternal pedigree with CDI Mainline and our 29Y donor
• 300K boasted a 109 WW and exploded with a 113 YW
• We recommend trying him on young cows before trying him on heifers even though numbers read CE
CDI 322K 47
• Solid calf that really got going once in the lot, check out his ADG
• Young dam has sound udder
• 322K has the look to be a problem free, maintenance free bull that does his job year in and out
• He has a tiny white star on his head and he could be Homo BLK, 50% chance
CDI 360K 48

• Of all the calves in the group, this would be my bet on which calf will out-produce whatever price he brings
• Dam is an awesome producer who always brings top calves 108 (WW) on 11 calves and 108 (YW) on 9 calves and she is bred back again this year
• Nitro calves have strong marbling scores and they just have that TJ Franchise look that is one of sweetest type of cattle in my opinion
CDI 254K 49
• Only Direct Impact son we have this year, we lost where we had the semen stored in the semen tank, but we’ve got some really exciting heifers in the heifer pen
• Excellent combination between CE, BW and WW, YW
• Strong carcass traits
• Would expect 254K to be a strong steer producer
• It is a rare opportunity to pick from 6 ET sons of CDI Trustee. All are Hetero black.
• This group has two of the best young red cows as dams
• 42E is an up and coming donor for Brock at LCDR and the dam to CDI Rockstar 259G
• 516C has nice group of reds, both cows have perfect udders and lots of milk
• These calves have loads of guts and muscle, good CE and BW
• There are very good hidden gems in this group that the Homo BLK only people will skip over so if Hetero Black is fine with you, here are 6 ET sons.
