MISTERTON SENIORS' LUNCH

&

ENTERTAINMENT

60 residents sat down to a three-course meal, followed by games and entertainment in the Methodist Hall (Saturday 18 January). The annual event is provided by a team of volunteers and this year was funded by Bassetlaw District and Notts County Councils, with donations of food from Misterton’s butcher, Wayne Howe, and his team, and Linroyale. A vote of thanks was given by District Cllr Hazel Brand to the nine volunteers, one of whom provided transport to and from the venue, and those who had contributed. Entertainment was by the choir Take Note from Haxey. The choir meets on Sunday evenings at 7.00pm in the Memorial Hall in Haxey and is open to singers of all ages and abilities.

COUNCIL GRANT HELPS FUND

NEW CRICKET SQUARE A £200

grant from District Cllr Hazel Brand’s community fund has helped to clear and re-seed the grass cricket square at Misterton’s sports ground. The grant was made to Misterton Phoenix Cricket Club and received by Mike Robertson, Chair (pictured with Cllr Brand). After the demise of a previous cricket club, Mike and other volunteers have raised a new club from the ashes – hence named Phoenix – and has an active membership of young and old, male and female.

Misterton Primary and Nursery School

Misterton Primary and Nursery School have been in many sporting events this term and have represented the school in district and county sporting fixtures.

Misterton Primary and Nursery children were successful in going through to the finals in the athletics district event and came fourth in placing. They all had an award in assembly today and the children and staff shared how proud we all are of their achievement.

Another sporting fixture was the Nottinghamshire County cross-country event and again our children went through to the final where three of them ran last Saturday at Worksop College. It was a pleasure to join the families and cheer them on over the finishing line.

Football starts back soon and training is underway as the first games are set on the calendar for March 2025.

1st Isle of Axholme BP Scouts

February 2025

The cubs have certainly hit the ground running this year! Starting with a session at the Brick Barn in Milestone Ranch, Ewan even commented on how good their teamwork skills were! We then had a night walk, utilising Matthieu’s expertise in astronomy. Unfortunately, the sky had other ideas so we didn’t get to see any stars, but it was still a lot of fun and clear that our cubs already know a lot in this area!

We then started out first aid badge, thank you to Elite Medical Cover, who taught the cubs some basic first aid skills. Our last session was an introductory lesson to boxing, lead by Tiff and her team, a new venture in boxing specifically for children and ladies (unorthodox boxing).

Scouts have been building up their teamwork skills with patrol activities like First Aid challenges and bridge-building. We have been working towards badges in Home-making and Cycling. Along with building up the basic scouting skills of the newer Scouts, we have been building our older Scouts towards their higher awards and getting them ready to graduate to Senior Scouts.

The Beavers are a great group, full of fun and enthusiasm. They have done loads of crafts, played a lot of games and learned about working together. We are also getting much better at lining up!

We will be on parade at the Founder’s Day parade at St Andrew’s Church, Haxey on 23rd February, so be there if you can!

Sections all meet at the Westwoodside Village Hall: Monday (Cubs, Scouts and Senior Scouts) meeting at 6pm (Cubs), and 7pm (Scouts & Senior Scouts), and Tuesday evening at 6pm (Beavers). Remember, we are still looking to recruit more leaders/ helpers for all sections. Please get in touch if this is something you would like to do.

All enquiries about Scouts or Beavers should go to Gregor on: gagibb79@aol.com and Cub enquiries should go to Matthieu at: matthieu_maloigne@mentor.com.
