BACH
To
z Dear Grade 4 z
What we like about Bach?
What we like the most about 5th grade is that we feel older, we also have more responsibilities and many new experiences like lockers, new teachers and more classes. In Bach there are many cool things but also you need to take new risks since some classes are going to be difficult for you. Although we love bach we also miss some things about primary, like the teachers, the activities like the Exhibitions and also the places we went like Fasac and C r a n . Another thing we miss is the time we have to wake up. In bach we need to wake up before 6:00 A.M.
Good Luck, good luck... Isabella Arroyo and Paula Cantuarias 5.5
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to Grade Five and the Middle School. I know that many of you may be feeling anxious about moving to another section of the school and another programme. We have been very carefully planning your move to Grade 5 and you do not have to worry! We have an excellent team of teachers awaiting you and wonderful MYP Units of Work. You will find many things the same and some things different but you will have a lot of support and guidance from all of the Grade 5 and Middle School team. As you approach this new stage in your life, I would like you to remember the following‌ Watch your thoughts; they become your words, Watch your words; they become your actions. Watch your actions; they become your habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. (Frank Outlaw) Wishing you lots of luck and happiness in the Middle School, SarahOsborne
Farewell Grade 4 a message from Mr Tom It is always sad to say goodbye to our grade four students. You have been with us since you were just 7 years old. We have watched you grow and change. We have taught you, guided you and always encouraged you to do your very best. Now we know that you are ready for the many challenges that Grade 5 and Bachillerato will bring. I hope that you will take with you many fond memories from primary. We will also have many fond memories of you. The excellent way you led the primary section while you were in grade four. Yo u r o u t s t a n d i n g P Y P e x h i b i t i o n . Yo u r commitment to your work with FASAC, to UNCOLI sports, to your houses and the Model UN. Your enthusiasm, your creativity, your confidence and your independence. Next year also take with you the many things you have learnt. You are knowledgeable about the world in which you live. You have developed as great inquirers. You show balance through the wide range of sporting, cultural and academic activities that you are involved in. You understand the needs of others and show that you are caring. You can communicate with confidence in two languages. You are open minded to new experiences and those that are different to yourselves. You think and reflect when you act. You are principled in your thoughts and in your actions. Good bye Grade four, and don’t forget to say hello!!!!!!!! Mr. Tom

The PYP Exhibition What do you get when you mix 13 mentors, 133 students, parent helpers, drama, dance, art, ICT, writing and research? The PYP Exhibition! The PYP exhibition is a demonstration of the knowledge the students have of certain aspects of Children’s Rights,
This year’s PYP Exhibition did all that and more. Students participated enthusiastically throughout the entire process. During the school year, students kept a reflection diary about their FASAC visits, they began to understand the PYP in more depth and they learned about children’s rights – all this before beginning work in their mentor groups! Once students had a basic knowledge of Children’s Rights, it was up to them to choose an area to investigate in depth. That’s when they really had to start working! In the mentor groups, students visited CRAN, listened to guest speakers, conducted interviews, used several sources for research, decided how to present their findings and showed just how independent they could be. The students decided what they wanted to learn, how they learned it and how
but it is so much more than that. The students have to use the skills, attitudes, concepts they have learned throughout their 7 years in the PYP section (Pre-school and Primary). They also have to take action based on what they’ve learned.
they presented it. This meant that they were enthusiastic and committed to the Exhibition. The final presentations showed a huge range - songs, drama, PowerPoints, music and video. Though the subject matter and presentations were all different, there was one similarity – the amount of hard work and dedication from the Grade 4s was obvious in all aspects of the Exhibition. Well done, Grade 4! You really applied what you learned and you made all the teachers in Primary and Preschool very proud.

The MYP Curriculum
You study many subjects in the Middle Years programme (MYP), but also you learn through The Areas of Interaction. These play a central role in Guiding your learning and you can use questions to help you understand them.
Approaches To Learning
Health and Social Education
How do I learn best? How do I know I have understood something? How do I organise what I am learning?
How do I live? How can I grow up healthy? How can I make responsible choices?
Human Ingenuity Why and how do we make or invent things? What is the consequence of new things in our lives?
Community and Service How do we live in relation to each other, our family, in Bogota, in Colombia and the world? How can I be a good citizen?
Environments
The Areas of Interaction
Where do we live? Why is conservation important? How do my actions affect the environment?
Cross over subject boundaries and link what you learn in the class to what you see and experience outside it.
What will we miss from Primary? For us, Primary was an adventure. Four years ago we were the smallest ones; the first day we were all so scared and excited at the same time … everything was new for us, butterflies were dancing in our stomach and many questions filled our heads … now we find ourselves feeling the same things again. How is Bach going to be? Will it be a lot different than Primary? Will we have nice teachers? Are we going to have lockers? If we do, will all our things fit in there? Are the periods going to be longer?, Are there going to be many exams? How many recesses will we have? How are our schedules going to be like? Will we have enough time to move from one class to the other? Will Bach be challenging? … so many questions and so little answers! We are starting a new adventure, just like the ones Biff, Kipper and the rest experienced with the magic key. We are definitely very excited but really nervous at the same time. Our teachers believe that we are ready to begin this new adventure but we are not so sure. B e s i d e s S AT ’ s , spelling quizzes and mental maths tests we haven’t had exams in Primary and we can’t stop wondering how you prepare for an exam. Do you memorise the information? What are the questions like? Another thing that worries us is having to start school so early. We are so used to sleeping until 7:00 and now, at that time, we have to be in our classrooms, ready to begin the day!!! … we get sleepy only thinking about it. Well, we guess that’s what adventures are about … excitement and expectation!!!! At the end, even with all our unanswered questions, we are really looking forward to going to Bach. Con-Sentidos and PSE Dear Students: This year we will start Con - Sentidos. This is a program designed to prevent alcohol and cigarette consumption in young adults. We will have several sessions in which we will explore together the dangers of those substances. You will also learn many things about yourself, your friends, teachers and families. We will have many interesting activities to explore those issues together. During our Con -Sentidos sessions you will have your group director and myself working together in your class, you will receive a manual and we will complete it together in school and sometimes you will need to complete some tasks at home with your parents. Your parents will be asked to come to school one day and take part in a contest. There we will test how much they have learned with you.
What if you have problems?
Conflict is a part of our life, it is not something bad, it is something we have to deal with. The important thing here is to learn how to deal with conflict in a positive manner. During this year we will discuss positive ways to deal with conflict and also how to avoid conflict. If you have a problem in school, you should always look for your Group Director first. He or she will always be there for you. After that, if your group director feels we have to discuss the issue further, you will look for Mr Michael and myself. But please remember, my door will always be open to talk to students, you can always come and see me. As this new adventure in Bach progresses you will learn may new things and add many new and important memories to your life. I wish you all the luck and welcome to 5th Grade Miss Christianne Cowie
