Sketchboard

Explorations Sketch exploration to get a balance between aesthetics and function using the dark side of the moon.

Introduction

A mini portable speaker inspired from the moon, which balances between aesthtics and function.

details

The fabric A tangible fabric interface on top of a screen, which gives the feel of a crater while interacting.

Details

The wireless charger A wireless charger which lights up to indicate the status when lua is put for charging.

Details

Cresent lighting

Magnetic

The cresent lighting in the charger gives a pleasent ambient lighting effect and also indicates the charging.

The magnetic charger base makes the job easier to place lua on top of it.

details

Ambient glow The top, glows depending on the sensitivity of the light in the environment.

Working

Easy turn on Tap the dedicated bluetooth button to pair lua to your device.

portability

Portable At the size of your phone, Lua is portable and compact to fit in a single hand.

In the environment

Key learnings - Rapid idea generation and concept explorations. -Prioritizing the work and taking quick decisions in a short interval of time. -Getting inspiration from my own work.

Blend Lua can blend in any environment to serve its function and can also be as an visual element.

China

High performance Sports players

-A country which is active and fitness focused with vibrant communities. -China is also one of the key market place for adidas to cover the Asian market.

Problem overviews

-Low quality -No air flow regulator

-Good quality -Does not seal properly

-Heavy and not portable enough -Not sustainable

Air pollution

Pollution masks

Waste disposal

-China is the most air polluted country in the world.

-Most of the masks are of surgical, which are not meant to protect from pollution.

-Most of the pollution masks are temporary and short lived.

-Main sources are from vehicles and factories.

-Hard to use it while playing a sport.

-Average life of a mask is just 1 week.

-Does not have other functionalities

-Some people use one mask a day.

Biggest threat to mankind

-Average AQI in China is way above the standards.

Solution with problems

of pollution masks

Cotton

Time to degrade

Disposal After a marathon or any sport, people throw their masks in a large scale, which leads to the pile up in mask waste.

Check before leaving Unawareness People use masks depending on their activity and need but forget about safety.

Unhygienic Rag pickers won’t pick up the polluted masks, since it is considered unhygienic.

Kg/ million people/ day

Since it is hard to find the difference between Pollution and mist. Checking the AQI and temperature becomes necessary.

Adapts to Moisture

Heat

Bio-mimicry in smart materials Smart materials and textiles have started using this techniques to create sustainable solutions for the problems that we face these days.

How could it help? Since sweat and heat is generated from the body during a high performance activity, these can be taken as a catalyst for the reactions.

Adaptivity in nature Nature is always adaptive to its surroundings. Translating the same to the product.

Material study

Final Material concept After studying the material and blending it with my ideas to bring in a final concept.

How it works

1. Closed initially

2. Comes in contact with moisture and heat

3. Opens up the flaps

form and function

Final form Ideating with the smart material concept to come up with a final tangible form.

Teardown and working

Usage 1. Pull down.

Bio-steel A fabric woven using artificial spider silk which is stronger and flexible than other fabrics but also 100% degradable.

Breathable clearance Small clearance allowing the user to breathe freely while doing any activity.

2. Tighten

Adaptivity

The flaps They open in both the directions allowing the air to flow inside and also to let it out.

Casual mode

Performance mode

Thermal + Filter

Semi thermal + filter + air flow regulator

Acts as a thermal mask till it reaches a critical temperature.

Opens up the flaps at the areas where the temperature is high.

how it is different

After life? It can degrade the whole fabric in less than 40 hrs depending on the environmental changes.

Rock and run No need to check for AQI or weather, It adapts to all the conditions.

YOur take

Join the movement Don’t just run for a cause.

Prevent it.

Walk to shorter distances Take a walk to shorter distances to earn points and rewards

Adidas ECO App for a sustainable fitness.

what after

Fashion statement? Not looking sick anymore Adidas has a huge market and audience in China, Where people wants to wear a mask as protection but also want them fashionable.

Key learnings -In-depth research about the country and their culture. -Tackling a global issue -Adding sustainability to the product without compromising on the brand’s tone.

Colour ways Three colour ways that represents China.

Collaborations? As people in China are following a trend of converting popular sneakers into masks to create an awareness about the pollution.

the story

Mood board

The form Two similar and unique forms in nature are tornado and whirlpool. By blending these two forms to provide a strong aesthetic to the product.

The force Nature always has two sides, constructive and destructive. Translating the powerful values of water and air to the water purifier.

2. Spin

details

Water inlet The inlet for the water is situated at the top back of the purifier.

details

Indicator Light indicates the user about the levitation. White when OFF and orange when ON.

details

The whirl The whirl is activated when the user pushes the glass to dispense. It is a simultaneous process.

Usage and proportions

2. Seamless integration of the outlet

3. Push to reveal

1. Magical experience

4. Enjoy the spin while drinking

Taking the levitating glass feels magical every single time.

The visual and sound of the whirl gives user a refreshing feel of getting purified.

In the environment

Key learnings -Building a story between the product and its form. -Breaking the monotonous experience of the user.
