Penny Putnam Conversations with Light and Color

We are proud to be presenting the work of Penny Putnam. The exhibition of over thirty works includes works on canvas, panel and paper. Penny’s works, while abstract, are grounded in nature and its elements. In a recent interview with Penny, she noted her inspiration was from the natural world. Meandering about the countryside as a child, she would pick up a rock, leaf, stick, animal skeleton, nut or any small object left on the ground. She continues this practice today, and has amassed a large collection of natural treasures which inhabit her studio and house. Often, these objects are the seeds which start her paintings. Whether it is the absolute object, or the atmosphere at the time of the gathering, these treasures have a profound in uence of her work. Penny begins her process by laying paint down, then working through challenges of light and color. Initially the paintings are almost chaotic, however as the painting evolves, the pigments aline themselves and work in harmony, not at odds. The nished painting is one of peace and beauty.
